Liverpool were good today but nowhere near the levels they have been. Any of the top 10 could have put 7 past United in that second half they weren't fit for a premier league match.

No matter the excuse being put across, Man Utd were well and truly battered today in every department ….simple!

Not enough is being made of Bruno Fernandes attitude and application today, I'm a gooner and can confidently say if any arsenal player behaved and played like that, I would want them gone. An abject disgrace.

Let's try and keep things in perspective. Last season Utd were awful and here they are with a trophy in the bag and most probably a top 4 finish. The last four games Utd have rode their luck and got great results, but I think this was a result awaiting to happen, the squad is good but not quite there to fight in four fronts!
Trevor
Not a Utd nor a Liverpool fan but I have to say Fernandes is a disgrace to the shirt. It will be interesting how Ten Hag deals with it.

Bruno has to be left out of next game. Asking to be subbed and giving up at points is unacceptable. Other than the Kepa incident don't think I've seen anything as bad
Mike
The only number 7 that matters is the 7 points clear United are of Liverpool right now!
Ben, trying to find something as a United fan

Liverpool
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BBC Sport: "We need results and performances and tonight we got both. The start of the game was super dominant and super flexible.
"A lot of moments in my mind where we were waiting for the right moment. Second half starts like it starts. Two goals, wonderful and from that moment on we were flying. We know the result is a freak but the performance was outstanding and that is what I take.
"A few months ago everyone thought it was a good moment to play Liverpool - you can't say it publicly but everyone thought it - because they felt we were struggling a lot but now it is less of a good moment, we look much more like ourselves.
"It is important that everyone knows we are here and we are still alive."

Erik ten Hag speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "It was a really bad performance and the worst of the year.
"We lost the game at the end of the first-half and at the start of the second but you have to keep your head up and we didn't.
"It's all about showing discipline and we didn't, so that's when you start conceding goals.
"It's a really unprofessional performance and unnecessary. You have to do your jobs and we didn't."
On the fans who travelled to Anfield, he added: "That was tough and we really have to thank them. I can't blame them for leaving because it was a really bad performance, I'm ashamed myself for the fans today."

Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "When it's a big game like this with two big teams, the first goal is always crucial.
"The message at half-time was much of the same and it went to plan and a bit more!
"We were so clinical, so good in every area of the pitch and we couldn't have ever envisaged this score but when players are confident that's what happens. Something just clicked.
"It felt like we were all over them and knew where the ball was going to be at all times. The lads can take a lot of confidence from it but we've got another big game next Saturday.
"It's three points in the right direction but we have to use it and kick on for the rest of the season now."

Manchester United
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, speaking to Sky Sports: "I don't have an explanation. In the first half we were quite in control. Second half at the start we gave two goals away. There was no team anymore. We didn't stick to the plan. There were 11 individuals.
"I don't know, it's really bad. I have given my opinion [to the players]. It was unprofessional. You always have to stick together as a team. We didn't do that. There was no discipline. You have can setbacks but you have to stick together and do your job.
"We made the wrong decisions. That for me is unprofessional. I'm really disappointed and angry. We let our fans down. As a squad, as a team, you cannot allow this. You have to stick together and support each other and fight for each other. You have to defend. We didn't do that and for me that is really unprofessional.
"We have made a lot of progress but you see what happens when you don't keep standards. What I have said in the dressing room is that this is unacceptable. But also it is only one game. We will bounce back. This team is strong enough and we will reset and bounce back."

Fernandes isn't worth the hassle and embarrassment he brings. I've said it before and no doubt I'll say it again, Fergie would've got rid. Utter petulance week after week. Nowhere near captain material!
Marc
That is completely unacceptable, you do not down tools and stop trying when you are 2 0 down, you try and defend it and keep the loss as minimal as possible, absolutely disgusted by the players today

Liverpool's Cody Gakpo, speaking to MOTD: "I think it was a really good day for me personally and the team. We need to keep this feeling and carry on. The most important thing we did today was to keep going."
On the race to qualify for the Champions League: "It is something we are fighting for. It's something that is important for the club, the fans and the team. We need to keep working hard."

Liverpool
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to Sky Sports: "No words. Spectacular football game. Outstanding. We played top football against the team in form.
"The second half the start was pretty good and the end was pretty good. That is football, it can happen.
"It was the push we wanted. It puts us in the right direction. Everyone has to know we are still around. It wasn't the case for a while but tonight was a proper show of what we can be and what we have to be from now on."
On Mohamed Salah becoming Liverpool's record Premier League scorer: "129 goals, that is insane. What an unbelievable number. He is a special player. We appreciate him now but in the future people will look back and be wow, we witnessed something really special.
"It was all top performances today. That is very important for us - 13 games to come? A lot of points to go for. Tonight it was perfect."

A loss I can take but the nature of the thrashing could go on to have huge consequences for United's. Let's be honest they were completely humiliated here and that could totally derail their season.
Tim
Freak result today, not reflective of either teams season. Both teams will move forward because of it.

Manchester United
Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes, speaking to Sky Sports: "It is very frustrating, disappointing, sad because it is a really bad result. We came here with a different mindset before the game.
"The first half was really good from ourselves, we had a lot of chances. We controlled most of the first half I think, they didn't create that much.
"[In the second half] we tried to go forward and score goals and we lost a bit of balance. We gave too much space away against this kind of team. We have to avoid that.
"The games are coming thick and fast. We had setbacks in the past and we have to come back quickly again. This is what Manchester United are about, we can go down but we have to get back up."
