Big picture for United, the squad isn't good enough to challenge for four trophies and the players looked tired. One trophy in the bag and top four is progress enough

The body language by some players was terrible and there was lots of frustration.

What happened to Casemiro? Fred? They all went missing.

Ten Hag will take this back to the training ground and brush his team down because it's done and finished. I can't see him doing anything in the dressing room, he's not like that.

What can I say, United approached this game with an arrogance. They way they were trying to time waste and slow the game down in the first half didn't serve them well for the second. A table position means nothing in the Premier League!

    James

I think the highlights of this game would be more appropriate at home on Comedy Central rather than MOTD 2. Hilarious!

  4. 'United didn't show pride'published at 18:59 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2023

    FT: Liverpool 7-0 Man Utd

    Sky Sports

More from former Manchester United captain Roy Keane on Sky Sports: "When United come to Anfield all logic goes out of the window. It is the hardest place to come – they didn't show any pride or fight.

"Liverpool were absolutely amazing though, their desire, their energy. Liverpool were back to their very best but it was an embarrassing day for United.

"I never thought United were back to their very best. They have been giving teams chances but today Liverpool didn’t let them off the hook.

"They were clinical and ruthless and kept going.

"The senior players for Manchester United are the ones who let the club down today. As a player, you would go into hiding. It is embarrassing for the players."

  5. 'It was unprofessional' - Ten Hagpublished at 18:56 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2023

    FT: Liverpool 7-0 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, speaking to MOTD: "I think we played a decent first half. One mistake in organisation just before half-time. Second half it was just not us. It was not our standards. We didn't play as a team. It was unprofessional. Yes [I am angry]. Definitely.

"I am surprised because I have seen the last weeks and months this team is resilient and has a winning attitude. Second half we didn't have a winning attitude at all. We didn't stick to the plan and we didn't do our jobs.

"We didn't track back and it was really unprofessional. We have seen in the past we can bounce back. After Brentford, after Manchester City. This is definitely a strong setback and is unacceptable. I'm really disappointed and angry about it.

"It is a reality check. We have to take this strong."

  6. 'They will be ashamed'published at 18:55 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2023

    FT: Liverpool 7-0 Man Utd

    Sky Sports

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane on Sky Sports: "A shocking day. The senior players were embarrassing. They didn’t show any leadership skills.

"A really tough day for Man Utd and thank goodness I have never been part of losing like that.

"The players will be ashamed when the going got tough, they went missing."

  7. 'Ten Hag will deal with it'published at 18:55 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2023

    FT: Liverpool 7-0 Man Utd

    Sky Sports

More from former Manchester United defender Gary Neville on Sky Sports: "I never had them down as title holders.

"They have built up real trust but this is out of character. Hopefully, it is a one-off.

"This is a sore one. You don’t lose 7-0 as a Manchester United player.

"That first 40 mins was a classic away performance. The second half has been an absolute disgrace, a shambles, epitomised by captain Bruno Fernandes who has been embarrassing at times.

"It's not their usual spirit and Ten Hag will deal with it very quickly."

  8. 'What a shambles'published at 18:55 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2023

    FT: Liverpool 7-0 Man Utd

    Sky Sports

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville on Sky Sports: "I have to say what a shambles.

"Some of Fernandes' behaviour in the second half has been a disgrace. He is holding his hands up asking why am I not coming off?

"Ten Hag has dealt with setbacks in the past but this is a big one. They have fallen to pieces, lost their heads, their shape and their discipline."

  9. 'Second goal the most beautiful, first the most important'published at 18:53 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2023

    FT: Liverpool 7-0 Man Utd

    Liverpool

Liverpool's Cody Gakpo, speaking to Sky Sports: "Everyone told me a lot about this game before. I knew it was big for the club and the fans and for ourselves for the situation we are in. We were motivated and when we put in a performance like this it is amazing.

"We were determined, eager to keep going and pressing them. In the end we got enough chances and everyone got the luck on their side today and that is amazing and we scored seven. But there are still things we can improve.

"We have to keep going and keep working hard and keep the mentality going."

Favourite goal? "The most beautiful was the second one, the most important was the first one."

  10. 'It is very special'published at 18:49 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2023

    FT: Liverpool 7-0 Man Utd

    Liverpool

Liverpool forward Mo Salah, speaking to Sky Sports: "It is very special to win a game like that. We need to stay humble and win our games. Hopefully it will give us a big push."

On his goal record: "It's very special. I cannot lie. To get it today against Manchester United is unbelievable."

On which is his favourite goals of all he has scored: "The last one."

TV fixed now. Wasn't working cos it showed a Liverpool team that looked right but wasn't. Cleaned the screen and now they were like before. Sorted!

    Clive

I'd be more concerned if I was a Liverpool fan if they go back to paltry performances after this. Few false dawns this season and if they slide again its a case of players not wanting it enough in "smaller" games.

  12. 'Mo dedicates his life to football'published at 18:46 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2023

    FT: Liverpool 7-0 Man Utd

    Liverpool

Liverpool's Jordan Henderson, speaking to Sky Sports: "It's a fantastic day for everyone. The performance levels, every player was top quality. You could see the energy levels were back. We have shown recently we are on the path back. It's a big win but we need to concentrate on the next game. I'm really happy for Mo [Salah]. He dedicates his life to football. He is the first one in and the first one out."

  13. 'United were just blown away'published at 18:41 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2023

    FT: Liverpool 7-0 Man Utd

    Dion Dublin
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

I still think Manchester United are heading the right way but every player today for Liverpool was outstanding.

United were just blown away by it and didn't know what to do. They couldn't control anything in midfield.

Liverpool were clinical today and I think United showed to much respect and overthought this fixture

    Henry

As a United fan think we need to take today on the chin, remember the progress this season and hope we bounce back. Probably won't watch Match of the Day though.

This makes a lot of the pain of the rest of the season worth it! Super stuff. That new front three really starting to bed it now - get that midfield refresh sorted over the summer and we’ll be fully back and firing next year

    Jon

Liverpool have been scintillating all day, but United downed tools from 2-0.... some of their players (Fernandes in particular) should be embarrassed

So many huge performances all over the pitch for Liverpool, where do you start?

Mohamed Salah's two goals makes him Liverpool's record Premier League scorer, what a match for history to be made.

Whether United are tired or not, you have to take your hat off to Liverpool's performance today

    Suresh - gutted United fan

What a blast! Match of the day and 606 will do me just fine. Easily United worst performance for seasons. And one of Liverpool's best
