That's all from us on what felt like a huge night at the summit of the second tier.

Queen's Park now sit four points clear of Ayr United, giving Dundee the incentive to move up to second tomorrow.

    The Championship, eh? Never disappoints.

I'll leave you with this Dom Thomas power pose. Have a smashing weekend, and see you for more tomorrow.

  3. What next?published at 22:06 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2023

FT: Queen's Park 2-0 Ayr United

I'm pretty sure both these sides - and their fans - will be keeping a watchful eye over the fortunes of Dundee tomorrow.

Gary Bowyer's men travel to Hamilton, who are desperate to close the gap and get themselves off the foot of the table.

The Dee have two games in hand now over the teams above them, and can go above Ayr with a win tomorrow.

  4. 'Frustrating goals to lose' - Bullenpublished at 22:03 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2023

FT: Queen's Park 2-0 Ayr United

Ayr United boss Lee Bullen has been chatting to BBC Scotland, stating that Queen's Park were the more ruthless side on the night.

"It's frustrating the way we lose goals," he said. "It's mistakes. I thought we showed a little bit more character in the second half, even though we lost the two goals.

"The teams that are better in both boxes tend to go on and win games in this league, and that was Queen's Park tonight. They were ruthless in our box, and we weren't ruthless enough in their box.

"We didn't seem to test their keeper enough. We'll take our medicine tonight, we'll go on and we'll come back stronger."

Asked if he has complaints over the awarding of the penalty, he quite simply answers, "No."

  5. 'Delighted to step up' - Thomaspublished at 21:56 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2023

FT: Queen's Park 2-0 Ayr United

Dom Thomas, who opened the scoring from the spot, tells BBC Scotland: "It was a tough 90 minutes. We spoke about me being the penalty taker when we lost Simon [Murray]. I was delighted to step up and put it away.

"Simon's a big player on and off the pitch. We knew we needed to step up and fill that contribution, and I think we did that tonight."

  6. 'No doubt we were better team' - Coylepublished at 21:52 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2023

FT: Queen's Park 2-0 Ayr United

Queen's Park manager Owen Coyle was delighted with his team as they moved four points clear at the top of the Championship.

"It was a difficult week," he tells BBC Scotland. "The performance at Dundee was nowhere near where we should have been. As long as we get performance levels, I know we can win games.

"Ayr United are a very good side. Lee Bullen's done a brilliant job, but there's no doubt we were the better team tonight.

"Connor Shields and Marcel Oakley, that's two of the best debuts I've seen from players. They were outstanding. They're good footballers.

"We've got a lot to do and loads of hard work ahead of us, but we're making good steps."

  7. "It's a great result" - Robsonpublished at 21:46 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2023

FT: Queen's Park 2-0 Ayr United

Queen's captain Tommy Robson tells BBC Scotland: "It's a great result. We've had a tough week. The result against Dundee last week was poor for us so it was great to bounce back.

"Everyone chips in together as a team. Both centre-halves were outstanding. We've seen how much of a threat Akinyemi's been all season, so to manage him how they did was outstanding.

Player of the match Lee Kilday adds: "He's [Akineymi] a top player, that's the players you want to play against. It was a great battle and we deserved the three points."

  8. FULL-TIME Queen's Park 2-0 Ayr Unitedpublished at 21:40 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2023

The league leaders move four points clear at the top of the Championship with a huge win over their closest rivals.

A Dom Thomas penalty and a Nick McAllister own goal sealed victory for The Spiders, who may now start to truly believe that the dream of back-to-back promotions could become reality.

Queen's are doing well to stifle any form of Ayr attack as we hit 90 minutes as Ochilview.

Connor Shields departs on his debut, along with Grant Savour, for Patrick Jarrett and Euan Henderson.

Another pair of changes for Ayr, as Jayden Mitchell-Lawson and Reece McAlear make way for Daire O'Connor and Paul Smith.

    Can they pull one back?

    Queen's Park 2-0 Ayr United

As is mentioned on commentary, it's been a pretty routine night in goals for Calum Ferrie, bar that strong stop from the Akinyemi header.

With Mullin withdrawn, you'd have to think any route back into the game for The Honest Men runs through their enigmatic striker.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, that's curtains for Nick McAllister.

He departs, along with the uncharacteristically quiet Josh Mullin, in place of Jordan Houston and Fraser Bryden.

There's a change, too, for Queen's, with Louis Longridge on for Jack Thomson.

    Nick McAlister (Own goal)

It's not a good night for the Ayr full-back.

First, he brought down McPake for the opener. Now, he's turned Jake Davidson's ball across the face of goal in to his own net.

To be fair, it's a strong run from the Queen's substitute, who gets past Sean McGinty on the byline with ease.

If you needed any reminder of just how tight the surroundings are at Ochilview, James McFadden has just had to use his cat-like reflexes to prevent his fellow commentator Al Lamont receiving a rogue ball directly to the face.

Wonder if Faddy could have made it as a 'keeper?

Here's the moment Josh McPake was upended in the box, before his fellow wingman Dom Thomas stepped up to rifle the league leaders into an important lead.

Off the line again by Queen's!

Dipo Akinyemi causes carnage in the box just by being there, allowing Jayden Mitchell-Lawson to steal in and pick up a loose ball in the box.

The winger fires at goal through a sea of bodies, but Queen's skipper Tommy Robson is alert to the danger and provides a vital intervention.

We've really got a game on our hands now!
