Well, the weekend of EFL football has certainly begun with a bang, thanks for joining me this evening!

We’ll be back bright and early tomorrow as promotion-chasing Sheffield United make the short trip to Rotherham for the 12:30 GMT kick-off in the Championship and then bring you all the afternoon’s EFL action from 3pm.

There are some eye-catching games with promotion implications in all three divisions, including Millwall entertaining Sunderland in the Championship, League One leaders Plymouth visiting second-placed Sheffield Wednesday and Bradford hosting Mansfield in League Two.

    See you then!

    FT: West Brom 1-0 Coventry

As for Coventry, that's a fourth straight away defeat, three of them by that agonising 1-0 scoreline.

They had a couple of half-chances in the first half from Viktor Gyokeres and Callum Doyle, and Gyokeres fizzed their best chance of the second half off-target.

They stay 13th but there are three sides who could overhaul them this weekend.

  3. Premier League beckoning for Baggies?published at 21:58 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2023

    FT: West Brom 1-0 Coventry

It was a year ago today that Steve Bruce was appointed West Bromwich Albion's new manager following the sacking of Val Ismael.

A lot has happened in the last 12 months - and Carlos Corberan is only just over three months into his own tenure as boss. But the whole place has been transformed.

Albion were 5th when Ismael left.

When Bruce went too in October, they were in the Championship relegation zone, in 22nd, their lowest league position in more than 20 years.

But Corberan has got the Baggies back up to 5th again - with 17 games to go. And the loud chorus from the Albion fans of "We're on our way, we're on our way . . ." suggests they already think the Premier League really is back in sight again.

  4. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:58 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2023

    West Brom 1-0 Coventry

There it is. David Button claims a cross and the whistle blows.

Wings were No1 with Mull of Kintyre the last time Albion won six straight league games at home without conceding a single goal....

They have done it again and really do look like a band on the run.... that's 10 wins in 12 and up to fifth. Grady DIangana's close-range finish after 15 minutes proved to be the difference.

  5. YELLOW CARDpublished at 90+6 mins

    West Brom 1-0 Coventry

Dara O'Shea picks up a caution in the dying seconds for a tactical foul. One last chance to get the ball in the box for City.

  6. Postpublished at 90+2 mins

    West Brom 1-0 Coventry

The hosts are doing a professional job of seeing out the clock here. Carlos Corberan will be thrilled.

As it stands West Brom are fifth in the table, a point behind third-placed Middlesbrough. All that could change tomorrow, of course, such is the crazy nature of this division.

  7. FIVE ADDED MINUTESpublished at 90 mins

    West Brom 1-0 Coventry

Albion fans wanted less, Coventry fans wanted more. Standard.

  8. Postpublished at 88 mins

    West Brom 1-0 Coventry

Grady Diangana, who might turn out to be the matchwinner, is caught in two minds about whether to attack or head for the corner flag. In the end he loses possession. It's been that kind of second half, if we're honest.

  9. YELLOW CARDpublished at 82 mins

    West Brom 1-0 Coventry

Jayson Molumby and Jonathan Panzo are both booked after an entirely needless bit of wrestling after Panzo shephered the ball over the dead ball line to earn a goal-kick.

  10. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 78 mins

    West Brom 1-0 Coventry

Jamie Allen's final act was to tee-up Viktor Gyokeres, he's the one to make way for Sean Maguire in City's fourth change.

  11. Postpublished at 77 mins

    West Brom 1-0 Coventry

Viktor Gyokeres has been feeding off scraps tonight but this was a good opportunity.

West Brom cough up possession in their own half, Jamie Allen manages to poke the loose ball to the Swede who twists and turns Dara O'Shea but can only blaze his effort from just inside box past the upright and into the fans.

Albion fortunate to get away with that one.

  12. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 74 mins

    West Brom 1-0 Coventry

What a reception for Marc Albrighton as he comes off. He's made an impression on his debut. Hugely influential in the first 35 minutes in particular.

John Swift is the man to replace him.

  13. Postpublished at 72 mins

    West Brom 1-0 Coventry

We're into the final 20 minutes and though the early storm after the triple Coventry change seems to have blown out somewhat, it is still only 1-0. It doesn't feel like it. It maybe shouldn't be, but it is.

Coventry stole all three points in stoppage-time in the reverse fixture 44 days ago, could they salvage something late on here too?

  14. 'Ground bouncing again'published at 21:28 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2023

West Bromwich Albion 1-0 Coventry City

    Ged Scott
    BBC Sport at The Hawthorns

Brandon Thomas-Asante's introduction - rapidly followed by Coventry's triple change - seems to have fully engaged the fans again.

The ground is now bouncing again on all four sides. And the near 2,000 section of Sky Blues supporters in particular are really making a din.

At only 1-0 down, and Albion keeper David Button now tested properly for the first time, they still clearly sense they can get something from this.

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 67 mins

    West Brom 1-0 Coventry

It's a debut for Nathaniel Chalobah, on loan from Fulham. He is on to replace Okay Yokuslu, fresh from his yellow card.

  16. YELLOW CARDpublished at 64 mins

    West Brom 1-0 Coventry

Okay Yokuslu goes into the book after a foul just outside the Albion area on Gustavo Hamer.

Hamer picks himself up and whips in a fierce free-kick which David Button does well to parry away to his left.

    City are pressing...

  17. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 61 mins

    West Brom 1-0 Coventry

Mark Robins has seen enough, he's made a triple substitution.

Brooke Norton-Cuffy, Jake Bidwell and Kasey Palmer are withdrawn for Josh Wilson-Esbrant, Josh Eccles and Matty Godden, who joins Viktor Gyokeres up top.

Plenty for that Baggies backline to worry about now!

  18. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 59 mins

    West Brom 1-0 Coventry

A slightly frustrated Daryl Dike is withdrawn, possibly recalling his missed header after four minutes. Albion's leading scorer Brandon Thomas-Asante comes on...

... and within seconds is denied a run on goal by a superb sliding challenge from Luke McNally. Had to get that one right!

  19. Postpublished at 58 mins

    West Brom 1-0 Coventry

The opening stages of the first half were breathless. The opening stages of this half are, er, very breathy!

City keeper Ben Lewis gets clattered as he claims a high cross from the Albion right and receives a free-kick by way of compensation.

Whisper it but there are a few meaty challenges and niggly exchanges creeping in too.

    West Brom 1-0 Coventry

There are 24,719 chilly souls at The Hawthorns tonight, with 1,980 of them in the Sky Blues end and, you'd imagine, feeling decidely colder!

That's the third-best turnout at the Albion this season, behind only their festive fixtures.
