Not the start QPR fans or new boss Gareth Ainsworth would have wanted, but Rovers won't care one bit.

Sam Gallagher heads the visitors in front after Tyrhys Dolan cut in and saw a shot deflected into the air and into the path of the striker.

It's the 27-year-old's 50th goal of his club career.

Sammie Szmodics had gone close with a shot from 12 yards a couple of minutes before.

Blackburn started the day unbeaten in six, with QPR 10 without a win in the league.

Tom Ince gets the ball on the edge of the area, weaves his way past a defender and his shot deflects past Chris Maxwell and in.

Ince declines to celebrate against his old club, after what is his eighth goal of the season.

It's two! The double-whammy for Daryl Dike was teed up by a quality move again, after Chuba Akpom lost possession.

John Swift and Jed Wallace were again involved, and Dike again was the fox in the box to stun Boro, who had been lively from the off.

There was some talk of wobbles about West Brom but they've well and truly quashed that chatter with an early goal against the league's form team in Middlesbrough.

John Swift teased the ball to Jed Wallace, who had the vision and the quality to pick out Daryl Dike, and he nudged it home.

Millwall hit the front at the Bet365 Stadium as Zian Flemming ends his run of 10 games without a goal.

The Lions win the ball in midfield, with Jamie Shackleton feeding the Dutchman.

Flemming drives forward and fires into the bottom right-hand corner for his 11th goal of the campaign.

The Potters had kept three successive clean sheets at home but will have to come from behind to get something out of the game now.

    Norwich 0-0 Cardiff

Connor Wickham is making his first start for Cardiff, and he has an early shot deflected behind for a corner.

Wickham has joined the Bluebirds this month after being released by Forest Green, for whom he scored the best goal I've seen this season in an FA Cup tie at non-league South Shields - a 50-yarder that dipped over the goalkeeper.

Burnley have opened up the the Huddersfield defence, but rather than Nathan Tella, it's a combination of Anass Zaroury and Ashley Barnes that has provided the goal.

It was a swinging cross from the former which ended up in the back of the net, and Barnes was deemed to have connected.

    Bang.

    Burnley 0-0 Huddersfield

Neil Warnock's wiliness has certainly not missed the dominant nature of Burnley's season so far, and Huddersfield have set up to frustrate and contain at Turf Moor.

Vincent Kompany's side have one of the most exciting talents in the Championship in their ranks in Nathan Tella, the Clarets will no doubt look to him for the magic needed to open up the visitors.

Gareth Ainsworth was warmly welcomed by the Loftus Road crowd on his return to the QPR dugout.

He's made one change to the side which lost at Middlesbrough last Saturday, with Stefan Johansen replacing Andre Dozzell in midfield.

Blackburn also make a single change as Hayden Carter comes in for injured centre-back Daniel Ayala.

Rovers top scorer Ben Brereton Diaz is back among the subs.

    Reading 0-0 Blackpool

It's safe to assume Paul Ince and Mick McCarthy were not too impressed by their players' efforts in their team's last outings.

Ince has made four alterations to his Reading side while McCarthy has opted for SEVEN changes to his Blackpool team, including the return from suspension of striker Gary Madine.

A total of 11 between them. This is the Championship, not the EFL Cup, gentlemen!

Barrow v Stockport County (15:00 GMT)

    Joe Thompson
Former Rochdale and Tranmere midfielder on Squad Goals

Barrow have got a red-hot Stockport County coming to town but the Bluebirds come into today’s fixture off the back on a very important win.

Their 1-0 victory at Bradford City last Saturday was their first three points in seven league games - and Stockport will be fully aware of the challenge that lies ahead.

Pete Wild’s side find themselves mid-table - perhaps meandering, possibly content after many had tipped them to struggle. But, as we know, League Two can change with a couple of wins and a late play-off push may be on the cards.

The visitors are in scintillating form and on the charge for those automatic promotion places.

County have won their past five games, beating Rochdale on Tuesday with two goals from midfielder Will Collar. He now has five goals in as many outings, with 12 goals in all competitions.

The County express has just arrived at Holker Street but will it be leaving with another three points?

Leaders Leyton Orient are striding towards automatic promotion and will be expected to continue that at Grimsby, who have lost three of their last five league games but may be buoyed (or perhaps distracted?) by the thrill of their ongoing FA Cup run, which sees them take on Southampton on Wednesday in the fifth round.

Second-placed Stevenage are closer to the scrap for a play-off spot than an outright promotion spot right now and they host Tranmere Rovers.

Third-placed Carlisle United have a chance to consolidate their place in the top three if they can inflict further misery on second-bottom side Crawley, who have won only once in their last five games.

Talking of the play-off spots, Mansfield Town and Salford City stand sixth and seventh in the division as they meet at Field Mill.

Bottom club Rochdale travel to Crewe knowing that their recent run of only one point in the last eight games will need reversing fairly soon if they are to stand a chance of avoiding the drop.

Ross Embleton is in interim charge of Colchester after Matt Bloomfield's exit, while John Askey begins as boss of struggling Hartlepool at home against Walsall.

A month ago, Sheffield United were the overwhelming favourites to claim the second automatic promotion spot to the Premier League. However, Boro have been piling on the pressure and have cut the gap to four points.

Make no mistake: Michael Carrick’s men are one of the Championship’s most in-form sides, having won their last five games on the trot.

With Chuba Akpom and Cameron Archer on fire in attack, Middlesborough will be looking to extend their winning streak to six matches as they make the trip to the Midlands..

And it’s as good a time as any for Boro to face West Bromwich Albion. After rapidly rising up the league following the appointment of Carlos Corberan at the end of October 2022, the Baggies have stuttered a little in recent weeks – picking up just one point in their last three matches, and are clearly missing injured goalkeeper Alex Palmer.

Can ‘King Carlos’, as West Brom fans have nicknamed him – Albion were second bottom and staring relegation in the face when the Spaniard took over – get the Baggies’ play-off bid back on track?

It’s hard to bet against Boro at the moment, given the form they are in, but this is the Championship – and anything can happen.

Kaye’s prediction: West Bromwich Albion 1-1 Middlesborough

Millwall are sitting pretty in fifth and they will be attempting to do the double at the bet365 Stadium over a Stoke City side looking to pull further clear of trouble.

Just one place behind Gary Rowett's side are Luton, another team once again punching above their weight. They will be hoping to continue Birmingham's post-Christmas blues as they visit St Andrew's.

Wigan may be bottom of the league but they are unbeaten in three games under Shaun Maloney, as they travel to a Preston side who have taken just one point from the last 18 at Deepdale.

Level on points with Wigan are Blackpool, and Mick McCarthy's men will seek to avoid a fifth straight away loss on the road at Reading.

Cardiff have a four-point cushion over the bottom three, but any points from their trip to Carrow Road to face play-off chasing Norwich would be gratefully received.

For Bristol City (15th) and Hull (13th), there is a gap opening up between both the top six and the bottom three. But maybe the Robins will have one eye on Tuesday's FA Cup tie at home to Manchester City.

  20. 'Wild Thing' starts life back at Loftus Roadpublished at 14:48 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2023

QPR v Blackburn Rovers (15:00 GMT)

    Gareth AinsworthImage source, Getty Images

Gareth Ainsworth took the managerial reigns at QPR on Tuesday, with the club at a low ebb having ended Neil Critchley's 12-game spell in charge last Sunday.

Rangers have only won once in 17 league outings, sliding from the top of the Championship on 22 October to 18th in the table and eight points above the drop zone.

Ainsworth spent seven years playing for the R's and had short stints as player-caretaker boss in 2008 and 2009 before leaving for Wycombe.

After more than 10 years in the dugout with the Chairboys, can the boss known as 'Wild Thing' get his former club back on track?

Blackburn Rovers, where Ainsworth once had a season ticket and spent time in the academy, visit Loftus Road unbeaten in six games.

Jon Dahl Tomasson's side began the day in fourth, but are only three points ahead of ninth-placed Norwich.
