Gareth: Team plays rubbish for months. Come to Old Trafford play like worldbeaters from the first second. ‘Twas always thus.

Tom: Yet again Fernandes gives away possession.

VN: ManU were not switched on early on - that is an inexcusable goal - tempo will be high for the first 20 mins

Luis Sinisterra's day is done. Leeds bring on Crysencio Summerville, who can't have thought he'd be coming on after eight minutes with Leeds 1-0 up.

Manchester United started sloppily with a mis-placed pass and poor control and they have been punished.

Wilfried Gnonto was given too much room outside the area and buried his shot into the bottom corner.

The Leeds fans to my right are making a fair bit of noise now.

Pascal Struijk wins the ball off Bruno Fernandes and finds Wilfried Gnonto.

The Italian youngster plays a one-two with Bruno Fernandes and drills and absolute thunderbolt into the bottom corner from 20 yards.

  16. Qatar interest in Man Utd but issues to overcomepublished at 19:58 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2023

There is heavy interest from Qatar in having some kind of stake in the Premier League and it is fairly obvious Manchester United is a prestigious purchase.

However, Uefa regulations prevent Qatari Sports Investments doing a deal because they also own Paris St-Germain.

The big question is whether the move could come through the Qatar Investment Authority or any other investment fund, or whether that would be regarded as being too close to QSI.

UEFA have allowed RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg in the same competition at the same time - they played against each other in the Europa League in 2018 - so there is some kind of precedent.

However, no bid has been made yet.

The Raine Group, who are handling the potential sale of United by the Glazer family, want to narrow the process down this month before concluding business in March.

Time will tell whether they hit those deadlines.

The omens aren't good for Leeds...

Their last league win at Old Trafford was on 28 February 1981.

Leeds' only win in their last 17 Premier League games against Manchester United was 1-0 at Elland Road in September 2002, when Harry Kewell scored the winner.

They have conceded 11 goals in their two games at Old Trafford since returning to the top flight, losing 6-2 in December 2020 and 5-1 in August 2021.

This game should have been played in September but was postponed because of the Queen's funeral.

That also gives this the odd quirk of not being on UK TV because that game wasn't due to be.

Leeds under-21 head coach Michael Skubala says the Whites' tactics will be virtually the same against Manchester United as if Jesse Marsch was still in the dugout.

Skubala, along with assistant head coach Chris Armas and development coach Paco Gallardo, will lead the team at Old Trafford on Wednesday and he admits it's a tight turnaround from Marsch's departure on Monday.

"We've got 24 hours," said Skubala. "We've got one session this afternoon so some things will have to be the same.

"There may be a few little tweaks in how we want to play but fundamentally we need to make sure the players understand the game plan."
