Former Wales captain on BBC Radio 5 Live

City were just too good for them today.

It's been such a bizarre season for Liverpool, so when you see them get outplayed like today it seems strange. It's not working like that well-oiled machine anymore.

They've got to do something big in this next week if they want to make that top four.

Liverpool "fans" level of complaining about Klopp does nothing but affirm what other fanbases say about them - ungrateful, and absolutely detached from reality. Their failure this season is down to years of under-investment by the board. Klopp has worked miracles on a fraction of his competitors' budgets.

Manchester City's Jack Grealish speaking to BT Sport: "Brilliant, we knew it would be a tough game playing Liverpool and the first after the international break is always difficult. We wanted to start this last period right, Liverpool are so dangerous with players they have up front and then you, not fear the worst, but think it's going to be a tough game to get back into it. We were excellent especially in the second half."

What changed in the second half? "I don't know - we had a chat between ourselves and with the manager and he said we have to stay in the game. I thought we were good first half apart from the goal. I was in the toilet at half-time, I felt sick all morning but fine now, I feel buzzing.

"I love it - I love playing, training. When it's going well there's nothing better, I feel back to my normal self, feel fit and back to confidence. Scoring and getting the assist, I'm buzzing.

"Arsenal are a great team, it's in their hands so we've just got to keep doing what we can to chase them down. I'm going to love you and leave you now I need to see how many days off I've got!"

    • Both Arsenal and Leeds United have had 14 goalscorers in the Premier League this season - a joint high. In Leeds' case, only in 1992-93 (15) have they had more different scorers in a campaign.
    • United have won just two of their 23 Premier League games against the league leaders, though both victories came away from home (at Middlesbrough in August 2000 and Manchester City in April 2021). They've lost all four such games to Arsenal by an aggregate score of 14-2.
    • Arsenal’s top scorer in the Premier League this term is Gabriel Martinelli with 13 goals. The last player to score more while aged 21 or under in a season in the competition was Dele Alli for Tottenham in 2016-17 (18).

    Arsenal v Leeds (15:00 BST)

Oli Price-Bates, The Fresh Arsenal podcast, external

    The run-in starts now.

With Champions League football all but secured for next season and no more cups to compete in, Arsenal have 10 games left and one goal: the title.

Such a goal would not have even been in the dreams of most Arsenal fans at the start of the season, so the job Mikel Arteta and this very young team have done to date deserves huge praise, regardless of where these final matches take us.

Arsenal may hope that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s focus shifts to the coveted Champions League trophy as the season progresses.

For that to happen, Arsenal need to keep up their near-perfect form and create the feeling that they are unstoppable. The timing of any dropped points could be crucial in the psychological battle.

The Gunners travel to Etihad Stadium on 26 April. After that, there will be just five games left for Arsenal, but City are likely to still have seven remaining because of their participation in other competitions.

If Arteta's side can come out of that fixture with a double-figure points lead, it may feel an insurmountable gap for City, who could have a Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid on the horizon by that stage.

  6. Which Arsenal player needs a big end to the season?published at 14:36 British Summer Time 1 April 2023

    Arsenal v Leeds (15:00 BST)

    Charlene Smith, AFTV, external

With our young, talented squad all shining brightly and playing very attractive Mikel Arteta-style football, I reckon there may be questions over Rob Holding's future at Arsenal as he can sometimes be a bit irrational with his decision-making and be a bit of a liability.

Rob is not a first-team starting player and, although his most recent performance against Crystal Palace was good for Rob, the centre-back pairing of Saliba and Gabriel is preferable, with the great relationship they have built together.

In the instances Rob does get minutes, he does not always showcase his best performance. Rob’s future is questionable as the levels and expectations at Arsenal are really high, especially being in a title race.

I personally like Rob and would love for him to stay at Arsenal, but his performances do need improvement and to be consistent with it.

  7. Sutton's predictionpublished at 14:36 British Summer Time 1 April 2023

    Arsenal v Leeds (15:00 BST)

    Chris SuttonImage source, BBC Sport

    Sutton's prediction: 2-0

I have said many times this season that Leeds have got some talented players who have not put a 90-minute performance together, and they finally did that with their 4-2 win at Wolves before the international break.

I certainly don't see this as being straightforward for Arsenal but the Gunners are on this marvellous run of six successive league wins since they lost to Manchester City in February, and they always seem to find a way of getting the right result.

Leeds will be lively and I really like Wilfried Gnonto when he gets on the ball but Arsenal have got Bukayo Saka, who is the best right-winger in the world at the moment.

Gabriel Jesus will be closer to full fitness now too after getting some minutes under his belt in March so they have got some great options up front. Arsenal will create lots of chances and I don't see Leeds keeping them out.

    Tommy's prediction: 0-1

As much as I want Leeds to lose because they are in the relegation battle with us, I am going for an upset here. Like I say, I always think Arsenal are going to drop points - I might be right this time!

  8. 'Can Arsenal shut out the noise?'published at 14:35 British Summer Time 1 April 2023

    Arsenal v Leeds (15:00 BST)

    Kevin Campbell
Former Arsenal striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think having Zinchenko and Jesus in the dressing room is going to make a big difference [for Arsenal's title bid].

Last season there was a challenge going into the Newcastle and Spurs games, they were a few points ahead and they came up short big time.

It was a painful one but that's driving them on this season. They have got over most hurdles. If there's been a blip they've come back with super performances.

Arsenal are for real. The key now is can you shut down the noise outside and get the job done? Everybody connected to Arsenal will be telling you title, title, title, title. You have to take it one game at a time.

Pep Guardiola wins his 100th Premier League home match as a manager in his 128th home game (W100-D16-L12).

Of the eight managers to record at least 100 Premier League home victories, Arsene Wenger (139) previously reached this landmark in the fewest games.

Jurgen Klopp has won 99 of his 142 Premier League home fixtures as a manager (W99-D32-L11).

    FT: Man City 4-1 Liverpool

    Michael Brown
Former Manchester City midfielder for BBC Radio 5 Live

It was a fantastic performance from City and great control in the second-half.

Once they got to grips with Liverpool, the way they moved the ball was just so comfortable.

Grealish will probably steal the headlines but they really outclassed Liverpool today.

Liverpool looked really deflated in the second-half with no fight or organisation.

  12. Postpublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 1 April 2023

    FT: Man City 4-1 Liverpool

This was seen as a potential banana skin for City in their title defence. One that might really hand control to Arsenal. Not a bit of it. City fell behind but didn't lose stride and in the end it was as comfortable a City win over Liverpool as I can remember.

There's a whole host of reasons for Liverpool's collapse this season. However, on balance, I no longer believe Klopp is the answer.

If anyone doubted it, Grealish is certainly worth the £100m. In recent weeks he, like De Bruyne, has developed a good understanding with Haaland. Today, he's demonstrated good defensive skills and scored
