  2. 'They have to be proud'published at 22:44 British Summer Time 4 April 2023

    FT: Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool

    Chelsea

Chelsea caretaker manager Bruno Saltor speaking to Sky Sports: "I have asked the players to play with their hearts and I think we saw that on the pitch. We create chances and I think we deserved to win. Yes, offside, and a handball, we had one v ones with their keeper."

On Potter's sacking: "These have been emotional days and the players have been able to keep focused. It's a credit to them. You need to score to win, football is that simple. But what we need to do is keep helping the players. We need to keep helping them and guiding them. It's outstanding."

On N'Golo Kante: "What he brings to the team in terms of football and leadership is outstanding. It's a massive plus to have him back."

In charge for the next match? "I expect going home now, rest and go day by day. What we are trying to do is go day by day, be professional and it's a difficult situation but everyone is doing the best they can. The only thing that I can say is that I'm happy with the performance for them it's credit to them. It's a difficult season for them. To come back from what we have had in the last few days is incredible. They have to be proud of themselves."

  3. 'This was a small step'published at 22:41 British Summer Time 4 April 2023

    FT: Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to Sky Sports: "So I saw a couple of 0-0s against Chelsea over the last few years. The two finals are two of the best games I've seen. Tonight was different. Two teams on a low confidence level but they put in a good fight. Super attitude and super mentality and that's what I saw. They had chance we had chance. We had to fight until the end, they had to fight until the end. It was a super intense game but not a spectacular game."

Did you see a reaction? "Reaction must always be [important]. I saw a lot of great challenges, people flying into tackles and that's what we need. Midfield, the three of them didn't play that often together. That's what we have to build on it. If things don't go your way you have to fight through this and make steps. Sometimes smaller ones, sometimes bigger ones and this was a smaller one.

"From a passion point of view I really liked the game. Yes it was not the best football but these boys are really good footballers and tonight they put in a proper shift. I thought really for the six changes especially, it was good tonight and that's what I take. They wanted to win desperately, we did as well, but we have to take a point."

Looking ahead to the Arsenal match: "At home our record is not as bad as way so we showed tonight we show we really care and we really wan it. Anfield is waiting for us and we want to deliver.

Van Dijk back for that game? "Yeah, yeah, yeah. He was ill but until the weekend we have a few days."

  4. Postpublished at 22:39 British Summer Time 4 April 2023

Ex-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel had his second game in charge of Bayern Munich today.

They lost at home to Freiburg for the first time in their history. That was in the German Cup too so their Treble dream is over.

  5. 'We made a fight of it'published at 22:38 British Summer Time 4 April 2023

    FT: Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson speaking to Sky Sports: "Tough game, both sides not at the highest level at the minute. We made a fight of it. You could see the willingness to keep running and keep working. The last pass and last shot wasn't quite there, but we have to take the point and move on.

"They've got some good players with individual quality and we kept digging in. We had to show fight really. Yeah it's hard to judge it straight after the game but it was a positive to work for each other. We lacked quality in the final third.

"A clean sheet away at Chelsea is never easy. We've got to take that positive and try to work and try to build and finish goals off. The inconsistency of the season hasn't helped us, you've just got to keep working and stay together as a group. At the end you've got to dig in. We got a point today. On another day you might miss it. That's football at the end of the day. You keep working and we have to see where it takes us come the end of the season.

"There's been flashes of brilliance over the season but not enough consistency. There's lots of reasons for that. What's important is that you stay together, you stay positive. We've got to keep fighting until the end. That's the aim and that's the plan and it all starts off with the basis of the attitude and desire. It's another opportunity to try and show the brilliance again on Sunday at Anfield."

  6. 'Commitment and desire is very high'published at 22:36 British Summer Time 4 April 2023

    FT: Leeds 2-1 Nottingham Forest

    Leeds United

Leeds boss Javi Garcia to BBC MOTD: "Very pleased because I think we played a very good performance. We got an important result and step and to get this win with our supporters. Enjoy today, from tomorrow we prepare next game.

"I think the most important thing for us is to play with our supporters. Their support is something that gives us value. The number one in our line-up is our supporters, after we say the rest of the team. It's something we have to enjoy with them.

"The quality is there. I have very good players. But not only the quality, their commitment and desire is very high. It's what we need if we want to achieve at the end of the season.

"The points in play are always important. But for the confidence and spirit of the team it's important to get good results to keep them going.

"The commitment is outstanding, it's something I'm very proud of. All my players are important for me."

  7. 'Bournemouth can 100% stay up'published at 22:34 British Summer Time 4 April 2023

    FT: Bournemouth 0-2 Brighton

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth captain Neto speaking to Premier League Productions: "We are disappointed with the result. We knew they are a really good team, it wasn't easy playing against them. We created our opportunities, many chances. To lose 2-0 is a little disappointing."

On playing against Brighton: "When we create and couldn't score against a good team, it is not easy because they have the ball for a lot of time, we spend a lot physically. This is football, it frustrates because one win can change everything for us.

"I think they have a very good feel of the game, I spoke with many players of other clubs as well and all players say the same. They have quality players and a very good idea of football."

On if he takes any personal satisfaction from a good display in goal: "Zero! We play for the result, so if we play ok but don't achieve our goal it doesn't make sense."

On whether Bournemouth can stay up: "If we keep this level, 100%. Not all teams play like Brighton, and we created chances against a very good team. The situation is not the best but we have a big game Saturday [vs Leicester] and have to play like we did today."

  8. Postpublished at 22:32 British Summer Time 4 April 2023

    FT: Leicester 1-2 Aston Villa

Since the weekend of Unai Emery’s first game in charge, only Arsenal (41) and Manchester City (35) have earned more points in the Premier League than Aston Villa (32).

  9. 'It's in our own hands'published at 22:30 British Summer Time 4 April 2023

    FT: Leeds 2-1 Nottingham Forest

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest's Harry Toffolo to Sky Sports: "It was a dream start really but that's football. It's about remaining positive, there's nine games to go. We have to go back to the training ground and work hard.

"Momentum changes in games, that's how quickly it can change. The first 20 minutes went exactly how we wanted it to go.

"We'll look at it and keep coming forward. Like I said, we have nine games to go and destiny is still in our own hands. It's about moving forward and making sure we take the right steps.

"We need to start winning, we know that in the dressing room, it's not going to be for a lack of trying."

  10. 'We have to keep our mentality and humility'published at 22:28 British Summer Time 4 April 2023

    FT: Bournemouth 0-2 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi speaking to Match of the Day: "It was a great game, a great win. A very difficult game, but I liked the big performance of my players.

"We made too many mistakes, we could have scored more goals. But we won, I am really pleased."

On why Brighton have such a good away record: "In terms of quality of performances, they are same home and away. Maybe there is more space, my players are fantastic because they have character to play away like they do at home.

"We have to keep our mentality and humility, but we want to dream and to try to achieve Europe."

  11. 'There's only ourselves to blame'published at 22:26 British Summer Time 4 April 2023

    FT: Leeds 2-1 Nottingham Forest

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper: "It's always disappointing to lose, but start as we did, take the lead, and not manage that at all was really disappointing.

"We didn't show enough bravery or courage with the ball. More disappointing we didn't compete well enough in the game. We gave Leeds too much space and we didn't get enough pressure on the ball. Leeds got the momentum and got the goals.

"In the second half we just never managed to get the break through and create clear-cut chances.

    "There's only ourselves to blame.

"We didn't manage going 1-0 up well enough. We stopped trying to play and simply didn't get enough pressure on the ball when we could have. We gave momentum to Leeds and they took advantage out of it.

"We are openly trying to own our negative away form and trying to do something about it. We didn't manage going 1-0 up well enough. We can't hide from the fact our away form is awful. We just can't manage to get a result away from home.

"There was a better reaction in the second half, no doubt about that. The players didn't give up and tried to get back in the game. I'm not going to stand here and say there's loads of positives in the game because we had a period in the first half where we lost the game.

"We're really disappointed we could have gone up to 13th with a win and made a gap. But, at the same time, it's still everything to play for. It's still in our hands. But for sure, you have to do something about it and make the most of it. We're still in that situation."

  12. 'We have to stick together'published at 22:25 British Summer Time 4 April 2023

    FT: Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool

    Chelsea

Chelsea forward Kai Havertz talking to Sky Sports: "I think [we should have won], especially in the first half we had load of chances. Second half, I think it was maybe a tie, maybe in the first half we deserved to score so in the end it's 0-0."

Did Chelsea lack confidence? "Maybe yes, I think in the moment especially after the loss at the weekend we missed a lot of confidence and that doesn't make it easier [the sacking]. But we are all professionals and we have to score. We have to keep on pushing."

On the disallowed goal: "With the new technology it was pretty clear. It is tough. I scored also at Anfield and it was small margins when it was disallowed. At the end you have to wait for the VAR and that is how it is and I have to accept that."

On the sacking of Graham Potter: "It's tough. As always when a manager leaves a club. It's not easy because it is our job to win games and when a manager gets the sack we also have to take responsibility for that. Now we have to accept how it is. We have to be professional and accept the situation. I mean I have to say first of all I have to say it's really nice and I have to respect Bruno and the coaching staff to stand in front of the team when the manager got the sack. But now it's not our job to think about who is coming. The owners decide that. We have to do the job on the pitch but when you have a manager for the long term it's easier for us as players. We have the faces out there, everyone sees us and we are all very frustrated to see Graham go but we have to accept the situation.

"There are nine games to play in the league and Chelsea doesn't deserve to be 11th. It's not nice to be there but we all have to stick together. We are in the quarter-final of the Champions League and we have to get as much confidence as possible in the upcoming game. As players on the pitch we need the fans as well. We are in the last eight of the best teams in Europe. It's not nice but we have to stick together."

  13. 'Enciso has adapted so well'published at 22:22 British Summer Time 4 April 2023

    FT: Bournemouth 0-2 Brighton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton goalkeeper Jason Steele speaking to Sky Sports: "We played a really good game, we knew it would be difficult, Bournemouth have had positive results at home. But overall we deserved to win."

On the clean sheet: "I can't speak highly enough of the guys in front. On Saturday we conceded three soft goals, to bounce back was a team effort."

On Julio Enciso: "We've got some young players in the squad who have enormous talent. I'm an elder statement to help guide him. For Julio as a 19 year old to come from South America he has done so well, adapted well and so pleased he gets a goal.

On Roberto De Zerbi: "I love to play for this boss, the way he plays football, if you don't enjoy that you might as well not be out there."

  14. 'Difficult to stand here without Potter'published at 22:21 British Summer Time 4 April 2023

    FT: Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool

    Chelsea

Chelsea caretaker boss Bruno Saltor to BBC Sport: "It's difficult to enjoy this type of experience because you’re really focused on the game. I tried to help the players from the touchline as much as I could.

"After what happened on Sunday, yesterday we had a recovery session. I tried to spend time with the players and talk to them. I thought they gave everything.

"It’s been hard, we are very close friends [with Graham Potter]. It's difficult to stand here without him but I’m trying my best.

“We created chances. We scored, offside. It will come to the boys because they deserve it.

“We left Liverpool without anything [up front]. They put their bodies on the line, I'm really happy with back three. We had players on Ramadan, some back from injury.

"N’Golo Kante is incredible. His performances are good. He’s a leader with his performances."

What now? "I’m going back home, rest, focus on the next game. We will just focus on every day. The boys are giving their best. It’s been a really hard season. They’re human beings, we have to help them."

Anon: Worst away performance and we get a point, honestly think Klopp's lack of plan b means it's time to move on. Same subs every time.

Mansoor: why does Klopp keep persisting with Henderson? has been awful for a while now, find it so annoying.

Rob: Shame Chelsea v Liverpool wasn't a cup game, I could have done with another 30 minutes.

  16. 'We showed spirit'published at 22:16 British Summer Time 4 April 2023

    FT: Leicester 1-2 Aston Villa

    Leicester City

Leicester City first team coach Adam Sadler: "It's difficult. It is what it is. We are in this situation for a reason. The lads showed incredible spirit tonight in terms of trying to get a result. I haven't seen it again [Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall second yellow card]. We had a plan and we tried to execute the plan.

"I was really proud of the boys for their response to falling behind. We have to dust ourselves down because we have another important game on Saturday."

  17. 'Step in the right direction'published at 22:15 British Summer Time 4 April 2023

    FT: Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to BBC Sport: "Both teams played last year in two finals, two of the best 0-0s I ever saw. Today it was two teams low on confidence but really fighting. We’re fine with a point, a lot of good stuff. We showed a lot of fight. We have to keep going.

"We struggled with the last line in the beginning but changed three times. The balls in behind were tricky but then we recovered well. We got better into the game. The midfield was well connected. We had our opportunities up front. It was not speculator. It was a step. That’s what we have to do – make steps. Sometimes smaller steps.

"We need to have these chances. You need to keep having chances. I’m not disappointed about that. They scored twice but both goals were disallowed. I didn’t expect a team with six changes to play the best game of the season. The boys who came in used their opportunity and showed they were ready.

"We cannot talk about the goals we have if we don’t get points. We don’t give up, we will fight. We can talk a lot but we have to show. We saw a step in the right direction tonight.

    "Some needed a rest."

On whether he has had a season like this: "No, thank God. I wouldn’t be manager of Liverpool if I had a couple of these seasons. We have to get through it. That’s how life is. You have to fight to change your fortunes."

  18. 'We had good chances we didn't take'published at 22:13 British Summer Time 4 April 2023

    FT: Bournemouth 0-2 Brighton

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Gary O'Neil speaking to Match of the Day: "The consequences are if you don't take your chances, you have to push hard and you can get caught. Their boy takes a really difficult chance, we had some good chances we didn't take.

On how important the next game against Leicester is: "They all are, today felt massive. This was our sixth game in a row against teams in top 10 and we gave a good go in each of them. Tonight will hurt he boys, but they will recover and go again at Leicester.

"I don't pick and choose fixtures, we go about them all the same away. But the closer to the end you get, they get bigger."

  19. Postpublished at 22:11 British Summer Time 4 April 2023

    FT: Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool

Chelsea have 38 points and have scored 29 goals in their 29 Premier League fixtures this season.

It is their lowest points tally at this stage of a league campaign since 1994-95 (37) and their lowest goals tally at this stage of a top flight season since 1978-79 (29).

  20. 'The supporters for us are number one'published at 22:09 British Summer Time 4 April 2023

    FT: Leeds 2-1 Nottingham Forest

    Leeds United

Leeds boss Javi Garcia: "[The win is] very important, to be honest we deserved this today. We played an amazing first half. The reaction from the team was perfect. We had 74% of possession, we dominated the game in the first half.

"The best chances were for us, we deserved to kill the game.

"We were able to keep doing the good things we usually do. In my opinion maybe we play the best minutes in the time I am here. It happens, if you don't kill the game, after you can suffer a little bit.

"The way Forest usually play they are very compact in the middle and when they recover they are really dangerous. The team defended really well, were really focused. It's good for our team.

"In the second half maybe we didn't start well. But after that period we were improving, we were creating clear chances and that was the moment where we had to kill the game.

"The supporters for us are number one. We will start the line-up with the supporters number one and afterwards the rest of the team. They have been outstanding, I want to thank their support."
