We were talking about Anthony Patterson's England Under-21 call-up earlier but a good week might just have turned a bad one after he allows a strike from Alfie Doughty to pass through him and in.

Sunderland behind, and a Luton side who've won the last three 1-0 are in front.

    Watford 1-0 WIgan

Watford lead at the break but you could forgive their fans for remaining slightly uneasy.

The Hornets have won just four of their last 25 league matches played on Saturdays... they have lost 12 of them. Only Huddersfield have won so few on a Saturday in the whole division.

    Middlesbrough 1-0 Preston

Preston have sent Troy Parrott onto the field for Ryan Ledson in their attempts to turn things around at the Riverside.

Boro enjoyed the best of the first-half. But there's a good chunk of the 45 remaining to change that for the Lancashire lads.

It's taken just 70 seconds of the second half for Plymouth to extend their lead over bottom side Forest Green.

Bali Mumba heads in James Wilson's far-post cross and Argyle look set for a 17th home win of the season and to cut Sheffield Wednesday's lead to a point.

Rovers haven't won since 10 December and were 12 points from safety at the start of play.

For our Championship teams this is their final action for two weeks, can they make it count?

    Watford 1-0 Wigan

Danel Sinani is the latest Latic into the book following a late challenge. That makes three in the opening 45 minutes.

He had fired just wide from 25-yards moments before the hosts broke the deadlock. A frustrating afternoon for the rock-bottom visitors so far.

Five additional minutes at the end of the half, however.

That's half-time pretty much everywhere across the EFL.

    Lots going on.

Let's boil it all down into some bitesize headlines for you...

  11. goal

GOAL: Blackpool 1-2 Coventrypublished at 15:49 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2023

Curtis Nelson own goal (45 mins)

    Coventry scoreImage source, PA Media

Coventry retake the lead and there's a bit of confusion who got the final touch.

Curtis Nelson has been credited with the own goal on the back of a Sky Blues corner, while Kyle McFadzean - who gave away the penalty for the leveller - is also in the conversation.

Either way, it's in the back of the net and the visitors lead.

  12. CARDIFF HIT THE WOODWORKpublished at 15:48 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2023

    Rotherham 0-1 Cardiff

SO close to a second from the impressive visitors.

Perry Ng hits a great free-kick towards goal but the crossbar denies him a third of the season.

A let-off for Rotherham, who then need Viktor Johansson to make a fine save from Cardiff sub Sheyi Ojo.

  13. goal

GOAL: Watford 1-0 Wiganpublished at 15:47 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2023

    Keinan Davis (45 mins)

    Watford scoreImage source, Rex Features

The hosts have been pressing for the first goal but it's taken a moment of magic from Keinan Davis to get it.

A solo goal, aided by some static defending, has broken the deadlock. He latched onto Joao Pedro's aerial ball, cut his way towards goal and beat Ben Amos into the far corner.

  14. goal

GOAL: Reading 1-1 Hullpublished at 15:45 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2023

    Andy Carroll (44 mins)

    Reading celebrateImage source, Rex Features

    A timely leveller!

Former England striker Andy Carroll equalises for the home side just before the break with a neat finish.

Seven for the season now for the veteran.

  15. CLOSE!published at 15:45 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2023

    Watford 0-0 Wigan

Jeremy Ngakia has lashed a fine volley from the edge of the area just past Ben Amos' upright for the hosts. What a goal that would have been.

  16. League One latestpublished at 15:44 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2023

Oxford are ahead in the relegation six-pointer at Morecambe.

They have picked up just one point from their past 10 matches but Marcus Browne has given Liam Manning's new side the lead.

  17. Postpublished at 15:43 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2023

    Middlesbrough 1-0 Preston

Middlesbrough goalkeeper Zack Steffen has earned his corn, saving after Tom Cannon split the defence and offside trap and then denying Alan Browne's prod towards goal from an Alvaro Fernandez delivery.

Fernandez's stock is high, and looks a threat.

  18. Postpublished at 15:43 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2023

    Stoke 0-0 Norwich

Gabriel Sara is denied by Stoke keeper Jack Bonham after a Ben Gibson pass.

Kenny McLean had fizzed an effort just past Bonham's post moments earlier. The Canaries on the hunt for the opening goal now.

  19. Postpublished at 15:43 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2023

    Reading 0-1 Hull

Not a good day for the home side so far.

They're a goal down and have now been forced into a second change in defence because of injuries.

Tom McIntrye goes off and Nesta Guinness-Walker is on.

Boss Paul Ince is going to have to box clever with his remaining sub options now.

Neither of these two teams have been able to wrest control of this one, with just one shot on target apiece.

No lack of intent and effort. Just cancelling each other out for the most part.
