FT: Swansea City 2-0 Bristol City

So that's it, Swansea pick up a big, big win to ease their growing relegation fears.

The win sees them rise to 16th, 10 points ahead of the drop zone.

Indeed, Swansea are now just a couple of points below Bristol City, who will be disappointed with their displays in two poor defeats in Wales in 2023.

We turn our attention now to international football, ahead of the Championship run-in and for the Swans, the small matter of the south Wales derby.

Thanks for following along with us, enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

And to all those who this applies to, Happy Mother's Day!

Fair play to the Swansea players today, they scored the goals in crucial moments of the game but they also controlled the game.

Despite being under a lot of pressure, they got the result.

The atmosphere was a lot better today to how it has been. Let's hope they can build on this after the international break.

  3. 'To a man, Swansea were excellent today'published at 14:43 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2023

    Ian Walsh
Former Swansea striker on BBC Radio Wales

A lot of anxiety has been taken away from Swansea City now.

It doesn't matter how they won, the three points was the most important thing today but encouragingly, across the field, I thought they were much better.

The biggest thing was the enthusiasm of the players. They didn't lack confidence, I think they moved the ball about brightly, they all wanted a touch on the ball and to a man, they were excellent today.

A massive release for the club. Russell Martin will celebrate with the crowd but in the back of his mind, he'll think 'How many of you have criticised me recently?'

    But not today.

Bristol City have looked average today, but that's the Championship for you. What's weird about the league is they could play a Burnley and get a win. There's so much inconsistency in the league but that's what makes it so exciting.

Interesting scenes at full time, as Russell Martin brings his staff and players together for a huddle in the centre circle.

That says something about how much Swansea City needed this success.

    There we are.

A big, big win for Swansea City and Russell Martin.

Bristol City were second best throughout, they conceded a chance after 17 seconds and never really looked likely to get something from this game.

A first clean sheet for the Swans in 2023.

To be fair today, I think the two lads at the heart of the defence (Ben Cabango and Nathan Wood) have been excellent. They haven't tried to over-play when they've had to play, they've had a bit of luck but in general they've shown a great attitude.
