    Coventry 0-0 Reading

No wins since February for Reading and they start the day in the bottom three.

They can ill-afford to let Coventry striker Viktor Gyokeres get his eye in.

The division's second highest scorer after Middlesbrough's Chuba Akpom with 20 goals, he's already flashed a shot past the post.

    Wigan 0-0 Millwall

Not a great deal kicking on in this game, as you might expect.

It's cagey at the DW Stadium, with both Wigan and Millwall with plenty to play for at both ends of the Championship.

There's a muted atmosphere as the Latics get going knowing that victory is the absolute minimum they need to stay in the division.

  5. Squad Goals' League Two game of the daypublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 22 April 2023

    Hartlepool 0-0 Crawley

    Joe Thompson
Former Rochdale and Tranmere midfielder on Squad Goals

It’s make or break for these two relegation rivals. Second-bottom Hartlepool host Crawley Town with only three points separating these two struggling sides.

The home side have given themselves a fighting chance since John Askey's arrival. Although they have lost their past two games, they are unbeaten in their last five home games and will be hoping and praying that they can continue that good home form today.

Pools' manager spoke to the media this week and simply called today's crunch match “a must win".

Hartlepool have to go for it if they are to give themselves any hope of surviving. Can dynamite Dan Kemp, with nine league goals in 15 league games since his arrival on transfer deadline day from MK Dons, be the difference today?

The away side find themselves in a difficult position, stuck between a rock and a hard place.

How do they approach today’s game? Crawley are three points above the drop zone and manager Scott Lindsey said his team will approach the game as usual and not play the occasion.

They come into today’s game off the back of a 0-0 draw at home to Colchester United on Tuesday night, with only one win in their past six.

Their performances have been better than their results of recent and looking at their starting line-up today it features all three top goal scorers in Telford, Nadesan and Oteh with 26 goals between them. A real statement of intent by the Crawley Town manager.

It’s the beautiful game but it’s about to get ugly down the bottom end of League Two.

It's not all decided today for these two. But one of these teams' EFL status will really be thrown into question come the final whistle today.

    Peterborough 0-0 Ipswich

    Sanny Rudravajhala
    Presenter, Squad Goals

It’s 10 wins from 11 games for Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town. A steely comeback against Port Vale in midweek was the latest victory in what’s been a stellar showing from the Tractor Boys as they chase the title as well as promotion.

Conor Chaplin didn’t score in that one but his hat-trick last weekend in their 6-0 demolition of Charlton put him on 22 for the season in the league.

Freddie Ladapo got a double in that one, he’s not doing too badly either on 15. And whilst I’m listing their players who’ve performed so well, Nathan Broadhead went from provider to match-winner with his double against Vale. It’s safe to say, this side have goals in them. In fact, they average two per game!

But anything they can do, Jonson Clarke-Harris can do too. The division’s top scorer has 25 in League One. Both he and Ephron Mason-Clark have scored three in four and they both showed cool finishes as Peterborough saw off Accrington in midweek.

This game is all about goal scorers but both have top performers all over the park. So, I’m expecting fireworks at London Road.

It’s the weekend of the London Marathon but it is a sprint finish on the cards for many English Football League clubs.

It’s such an exciting time of the season in the Championship, with almost every team having something to play for.

This one is a must-win for Wigan, who came up as champions of League One last season, to have any chance of staying up.

They got a vital win midweek and having lost just one of their past six Championship home games, Shaun Maloney’s team have made themselves hard to beat at the DW Stadium.

At the other end of the table, Millwall travel up north in fifth place and looking to take another step towards securing a play-off finish.

North West clubs are going to have a big impact on how their season ends with Wigan today, away at Blackpool next Friday and home against Blackburn on the final day of the season.

Whatever happens on the pitch the end of the season is going to be a culinary delight for any travelling Millwall fan who tries one of Wigan’s famous pies today and gets fish and chips in Blackpool next week.

It is so tight in the fight for the play-offs that Millwall getting three points here could be crucial in guaranteeing it will be a celebratory meal and a shot at finally making it to the Premier League at the end of the season.

Craig Clay and Tom James of Leyton Orient hold promoted flagImage source, Rex Features

After leaders Leyton Orient secured promotion in midweek the race is now on to see who can join them in heading up to League One.

Northampton are currently in second and, on paper at least, have a comfortable looking home game against 21st-placed Harrogate. But the Sulpherites have been in good form lately and a six-game unbeaten run has moved them further away from relegation danger.

Stevenage are the other team in the automatic promotion spots but they face a big test as they head to Mansfield in eighth. Nigel Clough's men are unbeaten in eight and intent on forcing their way into the playoffs.

It really is all to play for in the play-off race with only three points separating Mansfield from Stockport in fourth, with Carlisle, Bradford and Salford the other teams in the mix.

There are couple of huge games at the bottom too. Rochdale's relegation could be confirmed today after a 102-year stay in the Football League. They salvaged a last-gasp draw in midweek after going 2-0 down to Tranmere to keep their slim survival hopes alive but they need to beat Stockport this afternoon or they are down.

Whether you like the term or not, relegation six-pointer could be applied to the game between second-bottom Hartlepool and Crawley, one place and three points above them.

A Crawley win would leave Hartlepool on the brink – six points from safety with two games left - so this is as important as it gets for the two sides.

    • AFC Wimbledon v Swindon Town
    • Barrow v Carlisle United
    • Bradford City v Gillingham
    • Colchester United v Sutton United

    • Leyton Orient v Crewe Alexandra
    • Mansfield Town v Stevenage

It's been an entertaining battle all season and the League One promotion race is now really entering its endgame, with just two points separating the top three.

Leaders Plymouth host lowly Cambridge who are in desperate need of points themselves, languishing in 21st, but knowing a win could take them out of the relegation zone.

Second-placed Ipswich have hit form at the right time, winning 10 of their past 11, but face a big test today as they travel to Peterborough who are fifth and seeking to ensure they make it into the play-offs.

Sheffield Wednesday are in third and have played a game more than the two sides above them, but will be confident of victory at home to Exeter who have lost their past four, scoring only once in the process.

Barnsley, who have an outside shout of automatic promotion, host relegation-threatened Oxford, and Bolton and Derby are at home to Shrewsbury and Burton respectively as they seek the gain the upper hand in the play-off chase.

At the other end of the table, Forest Green are already down but no other team can have their relegation confirmed today.

However, second-bottom Accrington need points on their visit to Portsmouth, as do 22nd place Morecambe at Charlton if they are going to stand much of a chance of staying in the third tier.

    • Barnsley v Oxford United
    • Bolton Wanderers v Shrewsbury Town
    • Charlton Athletic v Morecambe
    • Cheltenham Town v Forest Green Rovers
    • Derby County v Burton Albion
    • Fleetwood Town v Milton Keynes Dons
    • Peterborough United v Ipswich Town
    • Plymouth Argyle v Cambridge United
    • Port Vale v Bristol Rovers
    • Portsmouth v Accrington Stanley
    • Sheffield Wednesday v Exeter City
    • Wycombe Wanderers v Lincoln City

Hull v Watford; Norwich v Swansea

Two more games to tell you about in the Championship amongst our 15:00 BST kick-offs, with Hull taking on Watford and Norwich facing Swansea.

With three games to go, Watford can technically still make the play-offs, which goes to show just how competitive the Championship has been this season.

However, they travel to Hull having won none of their past seven games on their travels in the league.

Meanwhile, Norwich welcome Swansea with their own hopes of a play-off spot faltering.

The Canaries are 10th and two points off the top six but are winless in three games coming into their final three games of the 2022-23 season.

Sory Kaba's stunner helped Cardiff to a 3-1 win at Watford in midweek

Cardiff gave their Championship survival hopes a major shot in the arm with a comprehensive 3-1 win at listless Watford on Wednesday.

Depending on other results today, the Bluebirds could as good as ensure their safety with a win over Stoke today.

Alex Neil's men have dropped off it in the past few games after an excellent run of form had seen the climb away from trouble last month.

The Potters away form is good though, they haven't lost any of their past five games on the road.

  13. Will Wigan's stay in the Championship end today?published at 14:46 British Summer Time 22 April 2023

    Wigan v Millwall (15:00 BST)

It's been a matter of when not if for the past few weeks with regards to Wigan's possible relegation back to League One.

They take on play-off chasing Millwall today knowing that defeat by the Lions will send them down no matter what happens elsewhere.

Even if they win or draw, however, they can still go down and this is where it gets a bit complicated.

A draw for the Latics won't be enough if QPR avoid defeat by Burnley but even victory today can make their Championship survival battle come to an end.

A win against the Lions will still send them down but only if all of these three results happen:

    • Rotherham win or draw at Bristol City
    • Cardiff beat Stoke
    • QPR beat Burnley

    Clear? Phew.

Bristol City v Rotherham (15:00 BST)

    RotherhamImage source, Rex Features

It's been six years since Rotherham last spent successive seasons in the same division.

The Millers have become the ultimate yo-yo club, going between League One and the Championship every May but a win today would go a long way to securing successive seasons in the second tier.

Opponents Bristol City are firmly ensconced in mid-table and have lost their past two games away from home.

However, their home form is excellent, with Nigel Pearson's men unbeaten at Ashton Gate this calendar year.

  15. A possibly sobering day for the Seasiderspublished at 14:42 British Summer Time 22 April 2023

    Birmingham v Blackpool (15:00 BST)

Brace yourself Blackpool fans, this could be a difficult day.

The Seasiders travel to Birmingham knowing that if they could be relegated back to League One after two seasons in the second tier.

Blackpool come into the trip to St Andrew's having lost 13 away Championship games this season including the past eight on the bounce.

They haven't lost nine in a row since 1992 and another defeat today, along with QPR avoiding defeat against title-chasing Burnley, will send them down.

Victory gives them the best chance of remaining in the division for now as, if they draw, they could still go down if QPR and Reading win.

The first goal of Coventry goalkeeper Ben Wilson's career wasn't exactly a thing of beauty... Not that he or any Sky Blues fan will have cared

When your goalkeeper pops up with a last-minute equaliser away from home against a play-off rival you're probably going to start thinking it might just be your year...

Ben Wilson bundled home in the dying seconds of Wednesday's 1-1 draw at Blackburn to send the travelling Sky Blues support home buzzing and boost his side's hopes of a top-six spot.

Mark Robins' men will have to capitalise on that point now with all three against beleaguered Reading.

The Royals, deducted six points earlier this month, are scrapping for all they're worth to try and get out of trouble but haven't won since 25 February.

  17. Can Burnley clinch the Championship title today?published at 14:37 British Summer Time 22 April 2023

    Manuel BensonImage source, Rex Features

Not only could Burnley clinch the Championship title today, depending on how the result goes against QPR, their Lancashire rivals Blackpool could be relegated.

The Clarets will be second tier champions if they beat QPR this afternoon but that won't be confirmed with anything less than a win as second-placed Sheffield United are featuring in an FA Cup semi-final this weekend.

In that case, the earliest they can lift the trophy is Tuesday, but if struggling QPR win or draw today, Blackpool are down.

It's all happening in Lancashire this afternoon!

    Good afternoon!

We've reached the stage of the season where we dust off the old p word.

    That's right, permutations.

On Tuesday, Leyton Orient became the second EFL side to secure promotion, as results elsewhere meant their 2-0 defeat at Gillingham was immaterial and they will be playing in League One next season.

No other EFL team can mathematically go up today, but Blackpool, Rochdale and Wigan all need things to go their way if they're to continue their battles to avoid relegation.

    Let's get straight to it.
