Arsenal 1-0 Sporting Lisbon (Agg: 3-2)

Oleksandr Zinchenko shakes his head as he fails to keep a chipped ball out to him from Aaron Ramsdale in play. That's the general mood around here at the moment. Arsenal could do with getting a grip on the game.

Arsenal have lost control a little bit. But there are going to be periods of this game where they will be under pressure with Sporting Lisbon have to go for it.

Rob Holding does really well defensively in that last little passage of play. Reads Paulinho's intentions and just slides into block as he pulls his foot back to shoot.

  3. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 21:17 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2023

West Ham 3-0 AEK Larnaca (Agg: 5-0)

Maxwel Cornet, who has only had 11 minutes of action since returning from a calf injury that saw him not play for five months, gets a chance to get some minutes in the legs.

Cornet was often Burnley's most impressive player last season before his £17.5m move to east London and could be a vital man in West Ham's bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Off go two-goal Jarrod Bowen, one-goal Gianluca Scamacca and also Lucas Paqueta.

As well as Cornet, on come Danny Ings and 18-year-old England Under-19 striker Divin Mubama.

I'm not sure centre-backs should have an Alice band on. But Rob Holding has gone there.

  5. Postpublished at 21:15 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2023

Arsenal 1-0 Sporting Lisbon (Agg: 3-2)

Arsenal are having to dig in here.

Paulinho gets space in the box to fire a shot that Rob Holding does really well to block.

  6. YELLOW CARDpublished at 21:14 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2023

Arsenal 1-0 Sporting Lisbon (Agg: 3-2)

Manuel Ugarte is the first Sporting player to be booked for a late sliding tackle to stop Arsenal getting away down the left.

Arsenal 1-0 Sporting Lisbon (Agg: 3-2)

Aaron Ramsdale has to save this one, though! The Gunners keeper has to come out to dive and push away Ricardo Esgaio's cross from the right ahead of another Sporting player.

  8. Postpublished at 21:11 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2023

Arsenal 1-0 Sporting Lisbon (Agg: 3-2)

Sporting have come out with the bit between their teeth, much like the first half.

A shot from range clearly isn't going to give Aaron Ramsdale any worries, though. It is sailing over from the moment it leaves Pote's boot.

  9. Postpublished at 21:09 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2023

Arsenal 1-0 Sporting Lisbon (Agg: 3-2)

Gabriel has Arsenal hearts in mouths as he goes down with a grimace. He is soon back up, though, and pretty much everyone in here breathes a sigh of relief.

    Jarrod Bowen

Easy for West Ham as Jarrod Bowen, on the day he was left out of the England squad, gets his second goal in three minutes, glancing in a header from Aaron Cresswell's cross from the left.

I think Gabriel Jesus was given 45 minutes under his belt. He showed moments of being the Jesus from the start of the season and now it is about wrapping him in cotton wool for the rest of the season.

  12. Postpublished at 21:09 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2023

Arsenal 1-0 Sporting Lisbon (Agg: 3-2)

A really good Sporting attack nearly opens Arsenal up. Manuel Ugarte carries the ball deep into Gunners territory and then finds Paulinho. But he is pushed wide and then can't find a team-mate with a cross.

  13. goal

GOAL - West Ham 2-0 AEK Larnaca (Agg: 4-0)published at 47 mins

    Jarrod Bowen

West Ham come flying out of the blocks and get another one inside the opening two minutes of the restart.

Jarrod Bowen following up to finish after Gianluca Scamacca's shot was parried by Kenan Piric.

Scamacca had almost scored seconds before from Bowen's pass.

It's been a very professional performance from West Ham and David Moyes can look to save legs and give fringe players some game time now.

  14. Postpublished at 21:06 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2023

Arsenal 1-0 Sporting Lisbon (Agg: 3-2)

Just the three assists for Leandro Trossard at Fulham at the weekend. What can he do in the next 45 minutes?

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:05 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2023

Arsenal 1-0 Sporting Lisbon (Agg: 3-2)

Gabriel Jesus gets just one half. Sensible considering his recent injury. Leandro Trossard is on in his place.

  16. Elsewhere in Europepublished at 21:04 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2023

In the half-times in the late games, these are the scores...

    Europa League

    • Union Saint-Gilloise 1-0 Union Berlin (4-3 on aggregate)
    • Ferencvaros 0-1 Bayer Leverkusen (0-3 on aggregate)
    • Real Sociedad 0-0 Roma (0-2 on aggregate)

There's still 45 minutes left to play in those. Anyone fancy Manchester United versus Jose Mourinho's Roma in the quarter-finals? Could happen.

    Europa Conference League

    • AZ Alkmaar 1-1 Lazio (3-2 on aggregate)
    • Nice 1-0 Sheriff Tiraspol (2-0 on aggregate)
    • Villarreal 0-0 Anderlecht (1-1 on aggregate)

Again 45 minutes left in those and as it stands Villarreal v Anderlecht will be going to extra time.

By the way, in one of the earlier matches, Basel beat Slovan Bratislava 4-1 on penalties after it had finished 2-2 on the night and 4-4 on aggregate after extra time. Basel were seconds from being eliminated before a goal in the third minute of injury time took it to extra time.

  17. KICK-OFFpublished at 21:04 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2023

It's all going to plan at the moment. Arsenal and West Ham just need to stick the landing.

We're getting back under way in London...

  18. 'Sporting have shown enough'published at 20:59 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2023

HT: Arsenal 1-0 Sporting Lisbon (Agg: 3-2)

Sporting have shown enough to suggest that they pose a big threat going forward. Arsenal have to be on their game for the second half otherwise they will get punished.

  19. 'This time no red cards'published at 20:59 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2023

FT: Real Betis 0-1 Man Utd (Agg: 1-5)

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag: "I am happy, we like challenges. This is a good team, we have seen it against Real Madrid and Barcelona. We beat them twice so I think we performed very well.

"I think we could have gone into the lead but some moments in rest defence and defence transition they could break. We had to avoid that keep more control on the ball, and use the overload in midfield.

"Second half we were much better on the ball, much more calm. we keep the ball in the opponent's half and let them run. And you see we created chanced.

"I think all the players did very well. Once again the players that came in did a good job and gave a good performance. So you can see we are not just 11 players we are a squad.

"For Facundo [Pellistri] it was great to come in, he had some good moments. He had a good performance in training but a game is different. At the start you have to come in but you saw after some minutes he got belief and he had some really good actions.

"In defence especially he did his job so I am really pleased with his performance.

"This time no red cards. And also no injuries. We have squad depth but not that big."

That is a great shot from distance. Manuel Ugarte fakes a shot, and it flies just wide of the post after a deflection fom Granit Xhaka.
