    Night all.

  2. 'We must be ready for the next game'published at 22:49 British Summer Time 12 April 2023

    FT: Real Madrid 2-0 Chelsea

    Real Madrid

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, speaking to BT Sport: "Don't forget that Chelsea are a good team with good players. We won 2-0 and took advantage of this game. It is not done yet. We need to fight and sacrifice at Stamford Bridge. This is normal, it is the quarter-final of the Champions League. We are satisfied for the game. It was a good game and we need to be ready for the next one.

"When we played against 10 men they put in a low block and it was not easy to find a solution. We spent a lot of energy in the game to press high. At the end, we were not so fresh to find a solution. But the result and performance were good.

"I know football really well. My players understand there is another 90 minutes to play. It will be difficult and we have to be ready.

"I have good memories of Frank Lampard. A fantastic player. I hope for them, he will be a fantastic manager. Not necessarily on Tuesday!"

Interesting today to see Notts Forest director of football sacked not the manager. Maybe Chelsea should have thought about that.

    FT: Real Madrid 2-0 Chelsea

    Mario Melchiot
Former Chelsea defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

When you play against Vinicius Jr you need to be physically fit because he will go at you for 90 minutes.

The only way you can stop him is by doubling up. When people are that good and that confident it's a big problem.

    FT: Real Madrid 2-0 Chelsea

    Chris Sutton
Former Chelsea striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

A lot of Chelsea players, especially in forward areas, are hiding.

It's an impossible task for Frank Lampard to come in, click his fingers and think everything to change.

It won't change against top class opposition. They play Brighton at the weekend and they could tear a strip off Chelsea.

Re (22:24): Anon is making the point that all non-Chelsea fans can see. Don't blame all the people who have just been brought in; look at the constants. Why are the likes of Mount, Loftus-Cheek or Chilwell still there when they are the constant in failure?

  9. 'Special things can happen at Stamford Bridge'published at 22:40 British Summer Time 12 April 2023

    FT: Real Madrid 2-0 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea interim boss Frank Lampard to BT Sport: "I'm proud of the 10 men. The disappointing thing is we give away a set-piece and switch off. I don't think they carved us open at 10 men. That was due to spirit. We had our chances - Joao Felix, Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount.

"Some good things but the result is the reality. Special things can happen at Stamford Bridge. We have to believe.

"There is a lot there for us, as good a team as they are. There's a bit of a lack of belief. The players don't know how good they are.

"There was some good in there. Next week will be a big fight."

On an injury to Kalidou Koulibaly: "People come in, Marc Cucurella comes in and does his job. A big deal is losing a player like Ben Chilwell.

"There are some details and mindset stuff, we have to be more positive. If we do that... I've been involved in those nights at Stamford Bridge. We keep going."

  10. Benzema second only to Messi and Ronaldopublished at 22:38 British Summer Time 12 April 2023

    FT: Real Madrid 2-0 Chelsea

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema now has 20 UEFA Champions League goals against teams from England, with only Lionel Messi scoring more (27).

The only other player to score 20+ goals against teams from a specific nation is Cristiano Ronaldo vs German (28) and Italian teams (21). Each of his last 11 goals in the competition have been against English teams.

  11. 'Where are the combinations?'published at 22:36 British Summer Time 12 April 2023

    FT: Real Madrid 2-0 Chelsea

    Chris Sutton
Former Chelsea striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

They have so many good attacking talents but where are the combinations in the final third?

You know what you are going to get with Real Madrid when Vinicius Jr and Karim Benzema look for each other. Chelsea don't have that.

I can't remember one time tonight when Raheem Sterling and Joao Felix linked up.

Brentford have scored more goals than Chelsea in the Premier League this season. That is embarrassing for Chelsea.

  12. Blues under pressurepublished at 22:32 British Summer Time 12 April 2023

    FT: Real Madrid 2-0 Chelsea

Chelsea faced 10 shots on target in this match, their most in a Champions League match since November 2012 against Juventus (13).

It was the first time they’d faced 10+ shots on target since August 2019 against Liverpool – which was the second game of Frank Lampard’s first spell as manager, with tonight the second game of his second spell in charge.

  13. Postpublished at 22:27 British Summer Time 12 April 2023

    FT: AC Milan 1-0 Napoli

AC Milan are unbeaten in each of their six Champions League games against Italian opponents (W3, D3), keeping five clean sheets.

Surpisingly, those are the only six all-Italian Champions League matches ever.

So many Chelsea fans blaming the new owner for this performance - why. The foundation of this team was created under Tuchel and performances under Tuchel very not the best.

    FT: Real Madrid 2-0 Chelsea

    Chris Sutton
Former Chelsea striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Chelsea looked dangerous when they countered and they did that well early on.

When they were in possession of the ball it was often so slow and they lacked a cutting edge.

Scoring goals has been an issue all season and Frank Lampard is going to [have to] solve that problem in the space of a few days.

2-0 isn't a killer result but can't imagine Real are too concerned at the prospect of this Chelsea team sticking 3 unanswered goals past them in the return.

    FT: Real Madrid 2-0 Chelsea

    Mario Melchiot

Chelsea have great talent in the team, they all have ability.

They need a striker but those guys playing at the moment need to show more desire to get goals.

  18. Chelsea's bluntest attack in 30 yearspublished at 22:10 British Summer Time 12 April 2023

    FT: Real Madrid 2-0 Chelsea

Chelsea have now failed to score in four successive matches in all competitions for the first time since November to December 1993. The Blues have not had a longer streak of competitive games without netting since a run of nine from March to May 1981.

They've also now lost more games than they have won in all competitions - 16 to 15.

Chelsea’s lack of firepower upfront blindingly obvious again. Two games and two defeats back under Frank, this could be the start of a catastrophic end to the season for the boys in blue!

  20. 'Chelsea showed resilience'published at 22:00 British Summer Time 12 April 2023

    Real Madrid 2-0 Chelsea

    Chris Sutton
Former Chelsea striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

    Chelsea did show some resilience.

They have a chance at Stamford Bridge but you can't see a way that Madrid won't score in the second leg.
