Just over 10 minutes into this second half and I'm beginning to think both sides have the same strategy.

That strategy being to bore the other side into conceding.

It comes after he tangles with Joe Geldhardt.

I mean, it's not the strongest case for a yellow card I've ever seen but referee Jarred Gillett clearly thinks otherwise.

He picks up the ball on the left hand side of the box but his follow-up effort is tame and scuffs straight at Sunderland keeper Anthony Patterson.

Salford City have equalised at promotion rivals Stockport through Callum Hendry.

It's also 1-1 between Tranmere and Harrogate.

Lots to play for with around 30 minutes remaining in those games.

Sunderland win a corner inside the first minute of the second half.

But as soon as it's sent into the Burnley box, the visitors concede a free-kick for a foul in the build-up.

Let's hope for some better football than the first, eh?

I'd say Vincent Kompany's frustrated. If I'm being harsh on these players, it's too slow, the balls out from the back and in midfield.

Especially Josh Brownhill, 90% of his passes are backward but when he turns Burnley actually get somewhere.

Everything is backwards and sidewards for me. I like keeping the ball but sometimes you can do it too much.

Everything about Sunderland has been very good. They've posed a threat and made it difficult for Burnley to play it out. Kompany has his work cut out.

The first half comes to an end at Turf Moor.

Burnley threatened the most and should be 1-0 up as Ashley Barnes sidefooted his effort high and wide.

Sunderland have defended well against the runaway league leaders, but it's not been a very entertaining half of football to be honest.

Right on the verge of half-time, Burnley come close to taking the lead again.

Nathan Tella tees up Josh Brownhill who then one-twos with Manuel Benson on the right.

But his low shot is - just about - blocked by Sunderland and travels over the crossbar.

It's a very good opportunity. Burnley recycled the ball so well. Ashley Barnes is only eight or nine yards out.

The goalkeeper is rooted. He's trying to do the right thing by side footing it at the far post but he's not got the execution right.

Burnley almost take the lead as they send a quickfire ball to Ashley Barnes who's completely unmarked inside the Sunderland box.

Sunderland are quietening the crowd down and that's job done from their point of view.

Jack Clarke makes a run from the left into the Burnley box and he looks to put a low delivery in towards the centre.

But the hosts clear their lines before Sunderland can take advantage.

Nathan Tella goes down in the Sunderland box from pressure from Daniel Neil.

There's absolutely nothing in it, mind. Neil does more than enough to avoid contact.

Sunderland are growing in confidence now.

Patrick Roberts shoots wide of the mark from distance and Burnley keeper Ari Muric gets a hand to it and puts it out for a corner.

As that corner is sent in, Daniel Neil fires a low shot on the edge of the box which forces Muric into making the save.

Sunderland send a corner into the Burnley box as they try to get the upper hand on the hosts.

Danny Batth gets on the end of it as he beats his marker but Burnley deal with it.
