  1. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:20 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Middlesbrough 5-1 Norwich

A huge reshuffle in the Norwich ranks as David Wagner makes FOUR alterations.

ON: Adam Idah, Jonathan Rowe, Sam Byram, Dimitris Giannoulis.

OFF: Teemu Pukki, Marquinhos, Onel Hernandez, Sam McCallum.

  2. Akpom equals Championship recordpublished at 21:18 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

With that goal, Chuba Akpom has scored in eight successive home games.

That matches a record set by Tammy Abraham when he was at Aston Villa and Jarrod Bowen during his Hull days.

Akpom has been an absolute revelation this season, and especially since Michael Carrick arrived.

The Boro man is now nine clear of Coventry's Viktor Gyokeres in the goalscoring charts.

Former Middlesbrough midfielder on BBC Tees

It's beautiful play. There's a switch play and Hayden Hackney reads it.

Cameron Archer does ever so well and put it on a plate for Chuba Akpom who can't miss.

  4. goal

GOAL Middlesbrough 5-1 Norwichpublished at 21:13 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Chuba Akpom (49 mins)

Five shots. Five goals for Middlesbrough.

The only thing missing for Boro was a Chuba Akpom goal. Not any longer.

Cameron Archer could go for his hat-trick inside the area, but he gets his head up and squares for Akpom to notch goal number 27 of his Championship season.

  5. Postpublished at 21:12 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Middlesbrough 4-1 Norwich

That is a crucial header behind from Paddy McNair.

Teemu Pukki is ready to pull the trigger behind him as Sam McCallum delivers a super flighted ball towards the back post until McNair's intervention.

No wonder McNair gets high-fives from his team-mates.

  6. KICK-OFFpublished at 21:08 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Middlesbrough 4-1 Norwich

Well, this half has a lot to do to match the opening 45.

Not surprisingly, Norwich were out first as Boro now join them as referee Josh Smith gets things back under way.

Christian Evans: How come Norwich can’t defend? #bbcfootball

Actually, this is the first time Norwich have conceded at least four since the 5-0 defeat to Tottenham on the final day of last season in the Premier League.

  8. As things standpublished at 21:01 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    HT: Middlesbrough 4-1 Norwich

Remember with this scoreline, Boro would leapfrog Luton into third spot on goal difference.

Norwich would remain eighth, one point outside the play-offs, but having played one game more than Millwall (in fifth) and two more than Blackburn (sixth), and vulnerable to the sides below them.

  9. Clinical Boropublished at 20:58 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

Michael Carrick should have his thumbs up with this scoreline. Boro have been so clinical when they have had chances.

Four shots on target, four goals. Norwich have actually had more shots and more of the ball.

With Ben Gibson and Grant Hanley out injured, the Canaries look like a team missing their two first-choice centre-halves.

    HT: Middlesbrough 4-1 Norwich

    Neil Maddison
Former Middlesbrough midfielder on BBC Tees

To come in at half-time and look at your side 4-1 up, I don't think it's been that tight of a game.

Norwich had a few chances, started the game well and Middlesbrough took the lead against the run of play.

It's been a really good performance from Boro in terms of taking their chances.

What a half of Championship football.

Time for a well-earned rest after five goals and plenty of thrills and spills!!

  12. goal

GOAL Middlesbrough 4-1 Norwichpublished at 20:52 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Cameron Archer (45+6 mins)

    Game over, take two!!

Ryan Giles floats in a free-kick which is defended appalling. One man ends up on the deck before Gabriel Sara can only poke the ball into the path of Cameron Archer.

For a finisher of Archer's quality, this is meat and drink as he finds the far corner with ease.

Two for Archer, four for Boro, no points for Norwich this evening.

  13. Postpublished at 20:45 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Middlesbrough 3-1 Norwich

    Neil Maddison
Former Middlesbrough midfielder on BBC Tees

That's absolutely devastating as Middlesbrough were in control of the game but this has given Norwich a lift.

For me you've got to relieve that danger and not muck around. It's in the back of the net before you can blink.

  14. goal

GOAL Middlesbrough 3-1 Norwichpublished at 20:45 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Josh Sargent (45 mins)

    My goodness, Norwich needed this.

Michael Carrick will be livid, as this is so sloppy from the Boro defence as Darragh Lenihan plays a poor pass to Paddy McNair, who is robbed by Josh Sargent.

The USA international advances and finally slots one past Zack Steffen.

    Cameron Archer (43 mins)

    Game over!!!

Middlesbrough pen Norwich in and sub Alex Mowatt slips a pass into Cameron Archer inside the area.

Max Aarons tries to intercept but is beaten and Archer finishes like a true striker, curling it beyond Canaries keeper Angus Gunn's reach into the far corner.

  16. Postpublished at 20:43 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Middlesbrough 2-0 Norwich

    Neil Maddison
Former Middlesbrough midfielder on BBC Tees

David Wagner is going absolutely ballistic. Game over mate, it's a great goal.

In my opinion play on. Not a chance you put the ball out in that scenario.

Look at all the Norwich players, they're still involved in the game.

  17. goal

GOAL Middlesbrough 2-0 Norwichpublished at 20:41 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Hayden Hackney (41 mins)

    A very brief let-off!!

Norwich are furious as play carries on with left-back Sam McCallum down.

The ball is worked into the area where he would be defending and Marcus Forss chips a dangerous ball towards the edge of the box for Hayden Hackney to volley into the corner.

Lovely finish from Hackney as the placement was perfect, giving Angus Gunn no chance.

  18. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 20:40 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Middlesbrough 1-0 Norwich

Darragh Lenihan thinks he has headed Boro into a two-goal lead from Jonny Howson's teasing cross, but he is stood in an offside position.

    A let-off for Norwich.

  19. Postpublished at 20:37 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Middlesbrough 1-0 Norwich

Josh Sargent has only scored two goals since the World Cup. He really could have had two goals in the first 35 minutes tonight.

Not taking your chances really does come back to bite you in this game.

  20. No more rain!published at 20:33 British Summer Time 14 April 2023

    Middlesbrough 1-0 Norwich

Water can be seen as players try to zip passes between each other.

We don't want too much more rain falling otherwise standing water may start to form and there is too much at stake for this to turn into a farce.
