Luton edge out promotion rivals Middlesbrough at Kenilworth Road and set themselves up for the last two games regardless of what they face ahead.

If tonight is anything to go by, the two will be terrific additions to the play-off lottery and should make it a fantastic knock-out climax to the campaign.

Cameron Archer, Carlton Morris, Marvelous Nakamba... we didn't even see Chuba Akpom! These lads are going to light up the run-in, I'm sure.

Little matter of a Lancashire derby tomorrow. Blackburn versus Burnley. You don't want to miss it.

    Until then, goodnight.

    League table

Luton remain able to catch Sheffield United in second by virtue of this win, although a Blades win on Wednesday against West Brom (Battle of Bramall Lane rematch by the way...) would see them secure that position and deny the Hatters.

Still, both Boro and Luton are assured of that post-season shoot-out, and a top four finish.

Wembley might still beckon for these two, and another meeting. We'll see in the play-offs I guess, if Luton don't get there by other means.

Luton show their character and mettle to stay in the automatic promotion hunt just about, with a 2-1 win over fellow play-off hopefuls Middlesbrough.

Carlton Morris got the winner but it was a debatable penalty at best. He slotted it away to bring all three points and add to Tom Lockyer's header.

Middlesbrough made sure they didn't have it all their own way throughout, and deservedly led at the break through Cameron Archer's opener.

They didn't want for possession at any stage, but in the end lacked that killer final ball to unlock the Hatters.

Boro swing in the corner, Rodrigo Muniz goes up for it, it sails beyond him and Anfernee Dijksteel, not expecting it, watches it ping off his head and out for a goal-kick.

    One last chance.

Luke Berry has run about like a Tasmanian Devil since coming on, sliding in, putting himself about.

Ryan Giles races down the left for Middlesbrough, another good ball but it's cleared by a well-drilled Luton defence.

It's exciting but the home side don't seem stressed.

Robbie: We don't need VAR we need much better refereeing. VAR is terrible in many ways, but since it's been introduced all linos are now redundant and the standard of refereeing across the leagues has plummeted.

As Luniz once rapped, I got five on it.

    Five minutes added time.

And Amari'i Bell gets a booking for faffing about, AKA timewasting.

Ryan Giles chases a ball to the byline but on this soggy turf it just skips away from him and behind for a Luton goal-kick.

Rueful, frustrated look on his face.

Luton fans roar their delight. Time nearly up now.

Matt Crooks receives a pass in the box from a Ryan Giles pass and then tumbles, but referee Graham Scott is having none of it.

No appeal from the Boro man either. Just got his feet mixed up it seems. Luton survive.

Alex Mowatt gets time to set himself on the apex of the penalty area right hand side for Middlesbrough.

But his curling ball into the box, is watched behind by Luton keeper Ethan Horvath.

    Might have fancied a shot.

Isaiah Jones again hits the byline at pace and then tumbles with Amari'i Bell on shepherding duties. Disdainful look from Bell as he looks down at the wing-back.

Boro possession. Can they find that precious leveller?

Deflection by Joe Johnson as Anfernee Dijksteel sought a cross. Corner.

Marvelous Nakamba with a case of 'second touch is a tackle' to foul Jonny Howson on the edge of the Boro box.

It brought a possible chance to an end.

Changes further rung by Luton boss Rob Edwards.

Elijah Adebayo and Alfie Doughty coming off, and the wildly gifted Luke Freeman (one of my favourite players bizarrely) and debutant Joe Johnson coming on.

Marc Bola gets a yard on the edge of the Luton box and hammers a shot towards goal but Tom Lockyer goes body and all to block it.

Comedian Bob Mortimer, installed in the Boro end, has agony etched into his Teessider face.

Wickedly-inswinging free-kick from Ryan Giles has Luton heads bobbing, and it deflects away to the left of the box where Jonny Howson just can't reposition or swivel to get a shot away.

Agonising for the veteran. Sorry about that Jonny.

Luton were being pinned, but one ball down the right releases Joe Taylor and suddenly they're in Boro territory.

He feeds Jordan Clark, but his cross is gathered by Zack Steffen.

Steffen and Luke Berry come together. That's waved away.

However, a clumsy bundle into the back of Matt Crooks isn't overlooked and it's a free-kick.
