A Hartlepool goal that will bring joy to Northampton fans!

Relegated Pools take the lead with a super strike from Callum Cooke.

As it stands, even a point will be enough for the Cobblers now.

    Colchester 0-1 Mansfield

And now close to an equaliser!

A set-piece from Colchester causes problems, as Riley Harbottle blocks the first effort on the line, before John Akinde smashes the rebound against the bar.

Mansfield have no choice, but to take risks in their search for goals.

    Calvin Andrew
Ex-Rochdale, Mansfield and Port Vale forward on Squad Goals

I fancy Stockport for the play-offs. They have momentium and they are more of an all-round team than the others that are in there.

Salford have been fantastic to watch but they are up and down, I don't think Bradford have enough in the dressing room and Carlisle, people have a hard time going there, but I think Stockport.

They're methodical and never look in trouble in games.

  4. goal

GOAL: Newport County 0-1 Crewe Alexandrapublished at 13:48 British Summer Time 8 May 2023

    Rio Adebisi (56 mins)

    A screamer from 25-yards-out!

Rio Adebisi blasts his shot off his left foot into the bottom right corner of the net.

Nothing the Newport keeper Nick Townsend could do about it.

Adebisi doesn't score many goals and he probably won't score one better than that.

  5. Postpublished at 13:47 British Summer Time 8 May 2023

    Sutton 1-0 Carlisle

Carlisle just starting to press a little more positively, and rack up some chances.

Kristian Dennis gets a ball into the box, which then breaks to Omari Patrick, but his effort rises too high to creep under the bar.

  6. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 8 May 2023

    Colchester 0-1 Mansfield

    So close to a second!

Davis Keillor-Dunn takes aim from just outside the area and his curler strikes the crossbar with with Tom Smith beaten.

That was so unlucky for Nigel Clough's team!

  7. Postpublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 8 May 2023

    Tranmere 0-1 Northampton

Northampton have not got going this half.

The home side are quicker to every ball and the crowd are roaring them on.

  8. Postpublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 8 May 2023

    Bradford 1-1 Leyton Orient

Bradford just getting a taste of Leyton Orient's champion quality at Valley Parade.

Paul Smyth is like a clockwork mouse, scurrying into space at pace, and his centre for Kieran Sadlier is turned behind crucially by Sam Stubbs.

The Bantams avoid conceding from the corner, as George Moncur doesn't make the right connection.

    Tranmere 0-1 Northampton

Tranmere are giving this a right old go.

They win a corner down their right and Cobblers goalkeeper Lee Burge has to be alert to punch it way from danger.

Northampton are within 40 minutes of promotion but you get the sense their fans wont be able to sit comfortably a all.

  10. Postpublished at 13:43 British Summer Time 8 May 2023

    Salford 0-0 Gillingham

Almost the opener at the Peninsula Stadium, but not at the end you would expect.

The ball is swung into the Salford box and Oli Hawkins climbs well at the back post, but his header is just over the bar.

A warning shot for the home side there.

    Sutton 1-0 Carlisle

Paul Simpson has already said this season has been a good one for Carlisle but they want to secure play-off football to ensure that it's a potentially great one.

Simpson has worked wonders to turn the Cumbrians from a struggling side to a promotion-chasing one, but their drastic tail off in terms of form at the back end has seen them tumble out of automatic promotion contention.

Even if they do make the play-offs, they'll be stumbling in rather than marching, unless they can get a foothold somewhere.

  12. Postpublished at 13:40 British Summer Time 8 May 2023

    Tranmere 0-1 Northampton

An absolute hash of a clearance from the Northampton defence presents Lee O'Connor with a fine headed chance but he sends his effort wide of the post.

That's a let off for the Cobblers.

  13. Postpublished at 13:39 British Summer Time 8 May 2023

    Bradford 1-1 Leyton Orient

Of all the sides fearful of Mansfield's scoreline at Colchester, it is Bradford whose place is most at risk.

They have the weakest goal difference, plus-18 to the Stags plus-16. Though they are still a point above Nigel Clough's side.

Andy Cook remains a big threat, and is a useful weapon with his 31 goals in all competitions this season.

There can be no sitting on their lead for Mansfield. They need more goals.

Carlisle are losing, but still have a goal difference advantage of six over the Stags.

With 45 minutes of the regular season to go, here's how the top of the table looks.

Northampton are going to claim that final promotion spot as it stands, but one goal for Tranmere could change all that and give Stockport the advantage.

Salford, Bradford and Carlisle are still in pole position for the play-offs but Mansfield are waiting in case any of them slip up.

    Elsewhere in League Two,

Swindon Town are 2-0 up on Crawley thanks to a pair of goals in quick succession to close out the half from Charlie Austin and Jake Cain.

Barrow are losing 1-0 to Stevenage at home after a Jake Reeves goal on the 25th minute.

Grimsby are 1-0 up on AFC Wimbledon after a Danilo Orsi cross deflected off Dons defender Isaac Ogundere and into the back of the net.

Jimmy Keohane's strike has Rochdale 1-0 up on Harrogate Town.

Not much happening between Newport County and Crewe Alexandra which remains goalless 0-0.

It's the same between Walsall and Doncaster, 0-0 after 45 minutes.

So far, so good for Northampton.

Sam Hoskins' early stunner has them on course for third spot in League Two.

A Tranmere goal would put the cat amongst the pigeons though...

  20. HALF-TIMEpublished at 13:20 British Summer Time 8 May 2023

    Sutton 1-0 Carlisle

Carlisle have saved their worst form of the season for the most important period and given Mansfield's lead at Colchester, they have their goal difference to thank for staying in the top seven as it stands.

The Cumbrians have won just two of their last 10 games.

Sutton will be delighted, they've played well and have a fine goal from Kylian Kouassi for their money.
