  5. 'Tonight I'm really happy'published at 22:27 British Summer Time 15 May 2023

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to Sky Sports: "Sensational first goal. Top second goal. We should have scored immedately after.

"Third goal, what a wonderful routine. Love it. Good win, super important for us.

"We have two difficult games to come. Villa are fighting for Europe. Tonight I'm really happy.

"That's the best free-kick routine we have. We should have scored three like that. Now we can take it direct or roll it both sides so it makes it more likely we score from these situations. We have to use it more often.

"We changed so many things. Now we just have to play a different rhythm."

On their Champions League rivals: "I think they'd have preferred we lose tonight. I would in their shoes. I don't think it's likely but if they slip, we have to be there. Will they slip? I don't know. Will we win both games? I don't know.

"West Ham will be happy. Now David Moyes can prepare the European semi-final."

  6. 'It's simple - we have to win our next game'published at 22:25 British Summer Time 15 May 2023

    FT: Leicester 0-3 Liverpool

    Leicester City

Leicester City manager Dean Smith speaking to Sky Sports: "We concede an awful goal from our point of view. We wanted to play in their half and make their centre-backs run back to goal but one ball beats our back four and then they score another soon after. Then you're chasing a game against a supremely talented team.

"For the first goal there is a lot we can do to deal with it. It's really tough to come back against teams like Liverpool, with the way they keep the ball. Goals change games. Two goals that are marginally onside. We wanted to make a game of it in the second half, we did at times, but the third goal kills the game. It's never a free-kick. Really disappointed.

"I thought the second goal looked like we had frazzled minds from the kick-off. Liverpool want to press and we played straight into their hands. That's where we have to have clearer minds and think clear under pressure. We know what we need to do now."

On the reaction of the home crowd: "The crowd are here to see us try and win football games. They get disappointed when you're two goals down at half-time. You understand that when goals go against you. That is only my third home game and it's the first home defeat we've had. They were magnificent in the first two against Everton and Wolves. No football fan wants to see their team get beat.

"It is a group of really good footballers but we came up against a team that overran us physically today. It's pretty simple. We need to win our next game. It will be tough at St James' Park. It would be nice to take the lead for once."

  7. 'Massive trouble'published at 22:22 British Summer Time 15 May 2023

    FT: Leicester 0-3 Liverpool

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville on Sky Sports: "Newcastle and Manchester United still have a job to do - Jurgen Klopp is coming for you.

"Liverpool will win their two games so Newcastle and Manchester United have to forget the idea that Liverpool will drop points.

"Leicester look drained on and off the field and the fans have turned, booing them. Leicester now have to win two games, they are in massive trouble."

  8. 'Liverpool seeing the best of Jones'published at 22:19 British Summer Time 15 May 2023

    FT: Leicester 0-3 Liverpool

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports: "Liverpool are still with an outside chance of the top four.

"The system they are playing isn't all about Trent going into the midfield, but Curtis Jones has been one of those players where this system is really helping him and we're seeing the best of him.

"These last six games you think there is someone that can be more than just a squad player, but he has to have more consistency.

"He's a goal threat and has something a little bit different."

  9. 'It was a nearly perfect game'published at 22:18 British Summer Time 15 May 2023

    FT: Leicester 0-3 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to BBC Sport: "We had to figure out a little bit how we can build up the game for 15 minutes or so. I really like what we did after that. Incredible goals. The second goal was super. It was a nearly perfect game. Between 55 and 75 it was a bit more open than I'd like.

"Unai is doing a heck of a job at Aston Villa. We have to make sure we're ready."

On winning to keep the pressure on the top four: "It's all we can do. I don't think it's likely [finishing in the top four] when you see how they play, they have so much quality. It would be a real shame if they slip and we're not there. So we have to do our job.

"I think we have qualified for European football which six weeks ago wasn't in sight. I wouldn't have believed it [that they'd be in the Champions League mix]. We didn't show this consistency."

  10. 'We have to keep believing'published at 22:14 British Summer Time 15 May 2023

    FT: Leicester 0-3 Liverpool

    Leicester City

Leicester City manager Dean Smith speaking to BBC Sport: "I thought it was a really bright start. We played in their half. Unfortunately the first goal they put a ball over the top and score from it. It's a talented team with supreme athletes. The better team won on the day. The goals we concede are disappointing. The third isn't a free-kick, it's disappointing.

"We've conceded the first goal, and even the second - we give the ball away and it's a great strike, marginally onside, but just disappointing straight from the kick-off to give the ball away.

"What we did really well in the first half was make their centre-backs run back towards their goal.

"We have played a very good team who deserved to win. We were beaten by a better team. It is two marginal onside goals and a free-kick that should never have been. I can't question the players and I won't."

On what he has said to his players: "Not an awful lot. It's a tough time to lift the players. Liverpool made it very tough for us. We have to keep believing."

  11. 'We haven't been good this season'published at 22:11 British Summer Time 15 May 2023

    FT: Leicester 0-3 Liverpool

    Leicester City

Leicester captain Jonny Evans to Sky Sports: "I thought the first 25 minutes until they scored, we were playing well. The first goal caught us out and the quick second goal kills us off.

"You're always at your most vulnerable when you concede. It knocks your confidence."

On the first goal: "It's one of them. As centre-backs, we probably got caught under the ball a bit. We didn't deal with it. You can see it happening but we couldn't get back in time to cut it out.

"I thought the crowd were great with us tonight and showed a lot of support. They could see we were working hard. We were playing against a good Liverpool side.

"They ran the game physically after scoring and we couldn't compete in the end.

"It's been frustrating for me with six months of muscle injuries. A lot of players are playing with knocks and niggles.

"Most players want to be out there competing and doing what they can for the club."

On why they are struggling: "It's hard to put your finger on it. We haven't been good this season. That's the bottom line. We've lost too many games and other teams have been better than us.

"Two more games left, we'll have to put in the same effort we did tonight."

    Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones speaking to Sky Sports, on whether that was his best performance for the club: "I think so yeah, definitely. It was a game where I had the ball a lot and I scored two as well.

"I was off for 15 weeks, I had a hard time, so now I'm back and I'm in the team, scoring goals and helping the team. I'll just try to continue.

"We do a lot of shooting in training. I'm playing games and settling in. You get more by being around the box so that's what I'm doing. The day before a game we always have a [shooting] competition."

On whether Trent Alexander-Arnold's midfield position helps him: "Yes definitely, it allows me to stay high. I want to score and assist more. Having him there as a player who is calm on the ball, it allows me to stay between the lines. It's working well and I hope it continues."

  13. 'Outstanding night for Jones'published at 22:06 British Summer Time 15 May 2023

    FT: Leicester 0-3 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold speaking to Sky Sports, first on team-mate Curtis Jones: "It's not just been tonight, but since he came back into the team. He is a lad who would want to have played more but he has stepped up when he has got his chance.

"He has definitely impressed everyone. He sets standards for himself and we need to keep that as a team. Tonight was an outstanding night for him.

"We're blessed to have players who can score goals. He is a midfielder who can score goals and in the system we play we need that. We try to create overloads. That's the responsibility of the team. Curtis can arrive in the box and finish."

On his goal: "[Jurgen Klopp] will take credit. He spoke to us and said let's try it again. It's been a while. I think we caught him by surprise. It was a well-work goal."

  14. 'It's the manner of the defeat'published at 22:03 British Summer Time 15 May 2023

    FT: Leicester 0-3 Liverpool

    Paul Robinson
Former Leeds goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Leicester just folded and from that point they offered very, very little. It's not the margin of the defeat, it's the manner of the defeat. It's how they crumbled after that first Liverpool goal.

This is a team that is packed full of quality players - Maddison, Barnes, Tete, Tielemens... players who'll be looking to get out of this club if they're relegated. They should stand up now and try to keep this club in the Premier League.

Ross Parlett: Unpopular opinion - the Winter World Cup wrecked Leicester's form. From October until World Cup. They picked up 16 out of 24 points. Over half of their current points in 40 days. After the World Cup, they didn't win a game til February.
