    Everton 0-0 Arsenal

Chance for Arsenal as they counter brilliantly down the right.

Stina Blackstenius drives things forward but she can't find Katie McCabe, free in the box, and Everton clear behind for a corner.

The resulting set-piece beats everyone though and goes out for a goal kick.

  4. YELLOW CARDpublished at 11 mins

    Everton 0-0 Arsenal

The Toffees are building things nicely. They ship the ball out wide to skipper Nicoline Sorensen but her cross is poor and goes straight into the side-netting.

At the other end, Everton's Karen Holmgaard gets an early yellow for a cynical foul on Caitlin Foord to break up a counter.

    Everton 0-0 Arsenal

Half a chance for Arsenal as Lotte Wubben-Moy plays a ball over the top trying to find Stina Blackstenius, but Everton keeper Emily Ramsey is on her toes and gets to the ball first.

    Everton 0-0 Arsenal

No shots just yet. Things are looking pretty even as Everton win the ball back and confidently knock a few triangles around Arsenal's midfield.

Katie McCabe sweeps things up for the Gunners though with a good interception.

    Everton 0-0 Arsenal

Arsenal are playing in a black away kit. It's clashing horribly with Everton's dark blue.

    What was wrong with red?

Anyway, on the pitch, Arsenal have won the ball and are keeping possession nicely.

    Everton v Arsenal (18:15 BST)

    Everton

Everton manager Brian Sorensen speaking on Sky Sports: "Our formation is the same. We will play the same as we did against Chelsea. The way we are defending is a bit different.

"We looked good with the ball [against Chelsea] but we need to be more ruthless in the box. Defensively we have changed it and hopefully, we'll see a better performance

"We talked about it [losing 7-0]. It happens sometimes but we are looking forward to this game and showcasing ourselves in the right way.

"If we click on the day and our defensively strong then we have a real chance.

"Arsenal are still big, big favourites but we'll do everything in our power to win."

Goalscorer Victoria Pelova dropped into midfield to fill in for Arsenal last week and was hugely impressive, dictating play and carrying the ball effectively from deeper positions.

Manager Eidevall was full of praise afterwards, telling Sky Sports: "For all young footballers, this is what happens when you have great technique.

"You can be brave on the ball and ask for it in tight spaces. Victoria can play fearlessly because of her great technical ability and she has great versatility."

Will we see another fearless performance from her tonight?

    FT: Brighton 0-4 Arsenal

Arsenal are making their first appearance since thrashing Brighton 4-0 last week.

The result saw them regain third place in the Women's Super League table to keep their pursuit of Champions League qualification on track.

Jonas Eidevall's side sit above Manchester City on goal difference with three matches remaining, having played one game fewer than their rivals.

Against the Seagulls they led 2-0 within eight minutes through a Stina Blackstenius double.

And Frida Maanum and Victoria Pelova added to their tally before half-time.

Can we expect another routine win from them tonight?

    Everton v Arsenal (18:15 BST)

Everton's 7-0 defeat in their last WSL match was their heaviest ever defeat in the competition.

But at home they're in much better form. The Toffees have won three of their last five home WSL matches, one more than in their previous 13 combined.

  18. Everton thrashed last time outpublished at 17:58 British Summer Time 17 May 2023

    FT: Chelsea 7-0 Everton

Last time out Everton were ruthlessly exposed by Chelsea in a 7-0 defeat.

Everton's challenge was over in the first half with the Toffees 5-0 down at the break, but they improved after the restart as they seemed to play with more freedom.

Even so, when Cuthbert added a late seventh, Chelsea doubled the number of away goals Everton had conceded all season in just one afternoon at Kingsmeadow.

A first WSL title since 2019 remains a possibility for Arsenal, who ended a four-year wait for silverware earlier this season by beating Chelsea in the League Cup final.

However, their poor form against the other top four clubs - four points from five WSL games so far - and a run of three league games without victory to start 2023 leave Jonas Eidevall's side as outsiders.

Should Arsenal win all of their three remaining games, they have a chance - but they can only reach a maximum of 53 points so would need United and Chelsea to slip up in more than one game.

  20. 'It's about being flexible'published at 17:52 British Summer Time 17 May 2023

    Everton v Arsenal (18:15 BST)

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall speaking on Sky Sports: "I never feel limited [due to injuries] it's all about what you can do with what you have. It's sad for the players that can't be part of it but it's a great opportunity for those who can.

"It's a great chance for players from our academy to show their quality and to be able to give back to the club that they've spent so long with.

"We can't get stuck in one system. It's about trying to be flexible. I have to admit I don't have all the ideas myself and need to trust my technical staff.

"A lot of teams at the top of the league have been trying every second of the game to be ruthless. The goal difference in the top four is quite big for each team."

On Steph Catley and Caitlin Foord coming back from injury: "They don't just bring experience but also quality. It also gives us options and tools from the bench. Today we can use Steph.

"Before Caitlin got injured I thought she was one of the best players in the league. Her ability to beat players one v one was great so let's hope she can get back to that level as quickly as possible."
