    FT: Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall to BBC: "I think we started slow, Chelsea were aggressive high-pressing and they got good momentum.

"I still think we created a couple of good chances in the first half. We had the chances to turn the game round in the second half.

"It's bitter to look back, we could've got a goal to get back into the game but it wasn't to be today.

"It's something we need to work on of course. It was important that we kept going and we managed to turn around the performance, that was pleasing. But we are disappointed with the result.

"When you look at it it was very even in terms of chances. It just comes down to efficiency.

"We need to do everything to get as fit as possible, as prepared as possible, to do our bit next Saturday."

    The winner!

A lovely strike from Bennison from the edge of the area.

With plenty of bodies between her and the goal, she showed great composure to find space and fire into the near post. A goal worthy of breaking Brighton's resistance.

A thoroughly entertaining first 45 minutes come to an end - both sides have looked far more impressive going forward than they had defending. It might frustrate the managers but it makes for great viewing!

Before the end of the half there was more bad news for Villa, though. Another enforced substitution with Kenza Dali hobbling off and replaced by Remi Allen.

  15. 'Today's result makes next week even bigger'published at 14:50 British Summer Time 21 May 2023

    FT: Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal defender Jen Beattie speaking to the BBC: "It's frustrating. We were nowhere near our level, we have been performing well lately. I'll be honest, they completelt outplayed us in the first half. Respect to Chelsea, they were better than us. But it is all still to play for, next week against Villa is even bigger for us now. "

On Katie McCabe missing the penalty: "That won't knock her. She's a big character and she'd take another one 30 seconds later. Everyone will rally around her, she's still our penalty taker. It's bad moment but it's done now, she's onto the next one. She's still our taker and I'm not worried about her.

On the fight for Champions League: "It's one last push.Three points is what we need. Today was no way near up to scratch and we lost out on three points. Next week is even bigger, especially the way Villa have been performing, they've been exceptional this year. So it is another massive game."

    FT: Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes to BBC: "We were superb first half we really were, the number of chances, the way we controlled the game.

"Arsenal showed their quality in the second half but thanks [Katie] McCabe for making it less interesting. They're a wonderful team."

[On Magdalena Eriksson scoring] "She deserves it. Magda in her time here has been so pivotal to our success. For her to get that moment in her final home game, in front of the fans she loves, nothing will mean more to her."
