“It’s been a crazy few years but the owners haven’t just reinvigorated the club but the community.

“They’ve taken the club to a wider audience and so many more people now care about Wrexham football club which is great.”

Jessica is outside the Wynnstay Arms in the city centre with dad Lee, mum Rachael, boyfriend James, brother Connor, Auntie Katie and cousins Amelie, six, and Louis, three.

“Now my cousins want to go and watch Wrexham and it’s given the town a huge buzz - and that’s benefitting every part of the community and makes people want to come and enjoy Wrexham. It’s brought everyone together.”

A few months ago Ben Foster had a tentative enquiry from Tottenham.

Now he's a National League winner.

    No wonder he's smiling.

I bet Hugo Lloris and Fraser Forster haven't enjoyed their season as much as this guy has.

  6. Wrexham's timeline to promotionpublished at 19:56 British Summer Time 2 May 2023

Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's takeover of Wrexham kicked off an adventure which would lead to the club securing a return to the Football League with the National League title.

Wrexham's 3-1 win over Boreham Wood sparked extraordinary scenes at a capacity Racecourse Ground, with the owners joining celebrations with players and fans.

Deadpool star Reynolds and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia creator McElhenney completed their takeover of the historic Welsh club in February 2021.

The club had been languishing in the fifth tier of English football since relegation from the Football League in 2008 and nearly went out of business.

The actors' involvement has not only sparked a rejuvenation in the club's fortunes on the pitch but lifting its global profile with a fly-on-the wall documentary series and the presence of A-listers at games.

BBC Sport Wales has looked back at how Hollywood's sparkle transformed Wrexham's fortunes.

  10. Owners ‘enjoying the journey’published at 19:49 British Summer Time 2 May 2023

As Wrexham reporter for The Leader newspaper since 2004, Richard Williams has interviewed many on the fortunes of the club.

But none will have been more memorable than an October evening in 2021, when over a pint at The Turf he spoke with the club’s owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

“I was very privileged to get the first interview with them and Rob said that he’d read my Leader articles online,” he said

“They came across as so caring and they knew their stuff. It’s ok talking the talk, you’ve got to walk the walk as well and for me they have.

“They’re enjoying the journey and there’s a lot more for us to enjoy hopefully.”

    Barry Horne
Former Wales and Wrexham midfielder on BBC Radio Wales

These owners tick every box. They've done their research, I'm not being cynical when I say that; they know what the town is about, they know what they want to do, they've got a plan and they're amazing, absolutely amazing.

They've taken a quantum leap in terms of getting back into the league, that was the thing, that was what these fans wanted, to get back in the league, that status.

There's nothing stopping them going straight through to League One.
