And so ends the 2022-23 women's European club season. What a way to bring down the curtain. You can read Emma Sanders' match report here.

It has been a pleasure to bring so much of it to you for BBC Sport, it has been a superbly entertaining season both domestically and in continental competition.

Now, the small matter of a World Cup, beginning on 20 July.

    See you then.

England and Barcelona defender Lucy Bronze speaking to Dazn: "We made it hard for ourselves in the first half even though we created so many chances. We knew we had quality to come back. We never worried about scoring three goals which is a crazy feat to do, but that's the talent of this team.

"It was definitely difficult at the end having not played for five weeks but I'm so happy to have played my part for the team."

  3. 'Best memories for the players'published at 17:25 British Summer Time 3 June 2023

    FT: Barcelona 3-2 Wolfsburg

Former England midfielder Jill Scott speaking on Dazn: “We knew that Barcelona had another gear, and it was just when they were going to step that up and fortunately for them it was in the second half.

"These are the moments that will last forever, memories for life, not just sport. There are more losses than wins along the way - unless you're Lucy Bronze - but these are the best memories ever for these players."

So, Barcelona will be the defending European champions in the 2023-24 season. Will anyone be able to topple them?

Perhaps a WSL contender. Chelsea, Arsenal and debutants Manchester United will be the English hopefuls.

  6. 'Barca responded like winners'published at 17:18 British Summer Time 3 June 2023

    FT: Barcelona 3-2 Wolfsburg

Former Leeds striker Lucy Ward on Dazn: “Really painful memories from last season for Barcelona, and their confidence knocked. But they came into this final flying high, their confidence was knocked in the first half but they responded like a winning team always does."

After two early blow-outs in the last two years, it was brilliant to see such a competitive and entertaining Women's Champions League final today.

Which makes the clash with the FA Cup final even more egregious. Terrible planning.

However, those of us who watched today were fortunate and treated to a fantastic spectacle. As I said earlier, you all have impeccable taste.

And now come the Barcelona players.

They will lift the Champions League trophy, which was carried onto the field again by Sarina Wiegman at full time.

I repeat what I said earlier - hopefully England manager Wiegman will be lifting a different trophy in Australia in a couple of months.

  10. 'Bronze is a machine'published at 17:11 British Summer Time 3 June 2023

    FT: Barcelona 3-2 Wolfsburg

Former England midfielder Jill Scott speaking on Dazn: “Lucy Bronze played today despite that injury, she only had surgery in April. She'll feel a little bit responsible for the first goal but as the game went on she showed her engine - she is an absolute machine. Four Champions League titles - wow."

The Wolfsburg players are collecting their runners-up medals now.

Several of them were part of the Germany side beaten in the Euros final last season. This will hurt just as much.

Welsh referee Cheryl Foster and her team have just gone up to collect their medals.

Other than a few tetchy moments in the final minutes, Foster had a good game and controlled things well today.

A great day for two England stars, Lucy Bronze and Keira Walsh.

Bronze becomes the first Englishwoman to win the Women's Champions League with two different clubs, having lifted it with Lyon previously.

Both her and Walsh have just accosted Dazn pundit Jill Scott on the touchline. European champions together again.

  14. 'Barca proved they are the best team'published at 17:06 British Summer Time 3 June 2023

    FT: Barcelona 3-2 Wolfsburg

Former Leeds striker Lucy Ward on Dazn: “They are so used to seeing greatness these Barcelona fans, that they wait to be inspired. The team needed them and in the second half they got them going.

"Barcelona are the best team in Europe but they had to prove it - and that's exactly what they did."

The Wolfsburg players are in a huddle on the pitch now. Several of them are in tears.

They were superb in the first half, clinical and disciplined. Then they did well to recover from the Barca blitz early in the second half, and looked like they could regain their lead.

Then a momentary error in defence, and they have lost the game. Such tight margins decide big matches.

  16. 'Barca raised their level'published at 17:05 British Summer Time 3 June 2023

    FT: Barcelona 3-2 Wolfsburg

Former Leeds striker Lucy Ward on Dazn: “If Wolfsburg were going to win this final they had to be absolutely perfect all the way through, and they weren't, but that is no slight on them.

"We said before the game that if the real Barcelona turned up they would win this easily, but they didn't in the first half and they had to really dig deep in the second half. They raised their level and after the first goal I think the stadium knew there was going to be a second and a third."
