  3. 'We squeezed every drop' - Coylepublished at 22:11 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

FT: Queen's Park 0-4 Partick Thistle (agg 3-8)

Queen's Park manager Owen Coyle tells BBC Scotland: "It's a very disappointing end. I feel for our fans, first and foremost. We should have scored the first goal of the game when Jake Davidson gets that chance.

"We know our Achilles' heel, we know where we need to improve. We're comfortable with the ball, but we couldn't penetrate and we've conceded soft goals. The fourth goal probably summed up our luck in the last few games.

"It's a sore ending to the season after how we've performed, but the bottom line is in the last number of weeks we haven't done enough to get ourselves over the line. The boys have been marvellous for most of the season but the end has been poor for the standards that we've got.

"We love football and we want to win every game but... for Kris to come tonight, after losing his father... I wish I had my mum and dad here. It's an important thing. We wish him and Partick Thistle well.

"I know that we've squeezed every bit out of that group we could. Sometimes when your good players are off the boil, you need to replace like for like and we didn't have strength and depth.

"Next year we'll be bigger and better and we'll be in among the top end again."

  6. 'We can blow teams away' - Doolanpublished at 21:56 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

FT: Queen's Park 0-4 Partick Thistle (agg 3-8)

Partick Thistle manager Kris Doolan tells BBC Scotland: "It was probably just what I needed. It's been a time of turmoil for me.

"I want to see us play like that and score those type of goals. That's how I envisage us playing and when we put it all together, we're a real force in the Championship.

"The play-offs is tournament football and that's our mentality. We wanted to test [Queen's Park] and see what they're made of. We didn't want to sit back and see how it panned out. I asked the players to take the game to them.

"We can blow teams away. The players deserve all the credit for me, they're the ones that go out and do it.

"I fancy our chances against anybody, I fancy us to go all the way. People should take notice because of our style of play and the players we have. You have to break records at some point. Someone has to do it - why not us?"

  7. 'Peter Pan' wins Player of the Matchpublished at 21:50 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

FT: Queen’s Park 0-4 Partick Thistle (agg 3-8)

Player of the match Brian Graham tells BBC Scotland: "First and foremost I'd like to start by dedicate this win to Kris Doolan and his family during this difficult time. Everybody describes Partick Thistle as a family club. We're a close unit as a squad as well. When someone's hurting we're all hurting.

"We can't forget that we started with a big save from our keeper. He was disappointed with the third goal through the week, but he's showed great character to come back.

"We were excellent first half - everything about us - the goal settled us down. I thought I should have had a hat-trick first-half, to be perfectly honest.

"People question my age and playing so quickly after the other night. I want to keep playing, I think I'm Peter Pan.

"When you've got Scott Tiffoney behind you, you close down areas he's not going to because he's not the brightest!"

"We'll keep going. There's huge belief in the character of this team. It's one defeat in about 14 games. Momentum is building at the right time."

It was pretty convincing. Thistle controlled both games and tonight they took their chances and kept it tight at the back.

It was always a tough ask for Queen's, losing out on automatic promotion on the final day and then trying to pick themselves back up.

The Thistle fans summed up the performance. Before the first whistle they were loud and energetic and that fed on to the pitch.

  9. 'Hugely deserved win' for Thistlepublished at 21:39 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

    Leanne Crichton
    Ex-Scotland international on BBC Scotland

It was hugely deserved. Start to finish, they were excellent and managed the game really well.

It was a really experienced performance in the second half. They limited Queen's Park to very little throughout the game. Their work rate was outstanding and the strikers set the tone.

Their shape was top drawer and they look like a hungry side. The fans have a real belief in what they're producing.

  12. FULL-TIME Queen’s Park 0-4 Partick Thistle (agg 3-8)published at 21:34 British Summer Time 12 May 2023

After an emotional week, Partick Thistle have taken the next step on their journey to the Scottish Premiership.

Brian Graham, Scott Tiffoney, Kevin Holt and Danny Mullen got the goals as the Jags routed Queen's Park comfortably - whose magnificent season comes to an end.

Graham, in particular, was superb and was awarded the match - although he did ask co-commentator James McFadden for it when he came off.

Kris Doolan's side will play Ayr United at Firhill in the first leg of the play-off semi-final next Friday night.

    Well that is it.

A corner from the right isn't dealt with by Dom Thomas. Aidan Fitzpatrick gets a shot at goal, it takes a wicked deflection and Calum Ferrie does well to save with his feet, but there is Mullen to bundle it over the line.

This period of probing just all feels too little too late for Queen’s.

The improbable triple promotion is appearing more impossible by the ticking second.

Cammy Smith comes on for just a second appearance since January. He replaces Steven Lawless as this game fizzles to an end.

"Another good performance from Lawless", says James McFadden on co-comms. I would have to agree!

Not a bad effort from Malachi Boateng, as he drives the ball inches wide of the bottom corner. That's about as close as Queen's have come all game.

Thistle respond by making two changes. Brian Graham and Scott Tiffoney are off. Dare I say, they're being kept fresh for the semi-final against Ayr United?

Anton Dowds and Danny Mullen are on.

I’ve covered a lot of Queen’s games this season, and I can say this is the first time Owen Coyle hasn’t come out at least five minutes before the second half starts.

He usually gives the players a bit of time on their own, having said his piece… mind you, he says enough during the game, too.

    Queen’s Park 0-3 Partick Thistle (agg 3-7)

How has Scott Tiffoney not made it four?!

Alex Bannon touches the ball but lets the ball go through him and suddenly, Tiffoney is through on goal. He just has Calum Ferrie to beat, but hits it straight at the keeper.

That's a nice bit of confidence for the Spiders stopper.
