"It was building blocks, really. We came in the day after the first leg and that was tough. We had some honest conversations.

"Credit to the staff. Every day they've built on those building blocks and given us more belief as the week's gone by.

"The fans rode us home and we were able to give them a good night after making it difficult for ourselves in Sheffield Wednesday fashion."

Sheffield Wednesday's Jack Hunt told Sky Sports:

"The lads were unbelievable over 120 minutes. I'm really lucky I got the chance to come on the pitch.

"The lads were outstanding to get us to penalties.

"We've practised them all week. It's credit to the manager and coaching staff. Everyone outside doubted us. For us to practise penalties, three each, every day.

"We had a game plan and stuck to it. It's credit to everyone involved tonight."

For every winner in the play-offs, there is a loser.

  6. 'The key was the fans'published at 23:18 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

Sheffield Wednesday reach League One play-off final

Sheffield Wednesday boss Darren Moore told Sky Sports:

"The key was the fans. I pleaded to them to come out in their numbers and full voice and they've given us that all season.

"They [the players] kept going. Why? Because the fans drove them on. The message to the fans is thanks very much.

"I've slept at night because I knew I had done all I could in preparation. I've kept the belief with the players.

"When you think what we've done from being four goals down. To do it with penalties is remarkable.

"Tomorrow I'll watch the game and then the preparation starts. We enjoy tonight, get up tomorrow morning. We've got a detailed session planned we've had all month."

Worth reminding you that no side had ever overturned a three-goal deficit from the first leg to win an EFL play-off tie, let alone four.

    Amazing.

Reaction from Darren Moore, the Wednesday boss, on the way.

He's remarkably composed for a manager who has just watched his side do that.

  8. Did half-time substitutions cost Posh?published at 23:10 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

Sheffield Wednesday reach League One play-off final

    Francis Green
Ex-Peterborough forward on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire

Peterborough made two substitutions at half-time, bringing on two centre-backs. I understood why Darren Ferguson did it, because Wednesday were bombarding the wide channels.

As a player, I used to love psychologically when the other team made negative substitutions. It showed me the opposition were scared of my team.

They were still in control of the tie at half-time, but they had no outlet. They had no way of attacking Wednesday.

You bring criticism on you when you do that.

Reece: Working away, I'd gone out for a late run around my fave city. I grew up nearby and have had Wednesday as my second team for 20 years and was loosely following the score all evening. At 4-4 I aborted the run. I've been in a central Sheffield pub watching the tension since.

Stephen: So thrilled for Darren Moore.

Brian: Well done Wednesday. Superb performance and hope you go up.

Daniel: The bottle job of all bottle jobs from Peterborough. Genuinely impressive to throw it away from the position they were in.

  10. 'Those who were booing us, have a look at this'published at 23:03 British Summer Time 18 May 2023

Sheffield Wednesday reach League One play-off final

Sheffield Wednesday captain Barry Bannan told Sky Sports:

"Everybody wrote us off. Everybody told us we couldn't do it but it's unbelievable.

"We've watched comebacks all week. It was all about believing. When we have the fans behind us, anything is possible.

"It's the best game I've ever played in. I'm so happy because all these lads deserve it. I give everything for this club to get us promoted. Everybody wrote us off but we showed we're made of strong stuff. We're only halfway there.

"Those who were booing us last week saying we're not fit to wear the shirt, have a look at this.

"What he [Darren Moore] has done is unbelievable, to turn around the mindset of the players. I'm so proud of him how he's handled this week after the racism he's experienced.

    "That one's for him."

Sheffield Wednesday reach League One play-off final

    Brian Laws
Ex-Sheff Wed manager on BBC Radio Sheffield

I'm speechless. Remarkable. I've never seen anything like this.

What an incredible evening I have seen unfold. My thoughts immediately go to Darren Moore, who has gone through the mill with criticism after the first game.

It was so nasty and vicious, but his professionalism, his calm and cool, has allowed his team to do something so remarkable.

My heart goes out to him. I want to congratulate him.
