That Paddy Madden header off the post in first-half injury-time was a clear reminder of just how delicately poised this play-off tie is.

A goal from the hosts levels it up on aggregate, and I imagine Salford boss Neil Wood made that very clear during the break.

The game will be back under way in moments.

Salford boss Neil Wood can tell his team they have had an arm wrestle and they have edged it in terms of chances and they are still in control of the tie.

My concern is that Matt Smith is already fatiguing and that will allow Stockport's defenders to come out with the ball.

He is so important for Salford in both boxes but unfortunately they don't have a like-for-like replacement. I am expecting Stockport to have heavy, heavy pressure in the second half.

The crowd at Edgeley Park has been treated to a tense first-half of action.

Among them is former Manchester United hardman Roy Keane, who is a former team-mate of Salford owners Gary and Phil Neville, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt.

Stockport needed another five or 10 minutes there and they would have been knocking down the door.

Dave Challinor will be saying more of that in the second half because Stockport were magnificent in the last 10 minutes of the half.

I think Neil Wood will be telling his team they have defended resolutely and ask for more of the same.

How did it not cross the line?

I imagine that headed effort from Paddy Madden just before the break will long be debated by Stockport fans.

There was so little in it, that's for sure.

What does Paddy Madden have to do to score that? It was bound for goal.

A second corner in as many minutes leads to Stockport's biggest moment of the first half.

And how has this stayed out?

Paddy Madden crashes a header off the bottom of the crossbar, and it bounces on the line and out.

By the smallest of margins, Salford hold on to their aggregate advantage.

Stockport have a few chances to cause Salford grief with set-pieces.

A free-kick from the right is well defended, before a corner is defused by the visitors.

We are into the the final minute of the first half.

A ball over the top of Salford's defence has Isaac Olaofe sprinting frantically up field to try meet it.

Alex Cairns reads the danger early and is off his line in a flash. He wins the foot race and snatches the ball from the air before Olaofe can reach it.

When I look at Salford City I think Smith might score, Hendry might score, McAleny might score, Bolton might score.

But when I look at Stockport I think Madden might score, I don't see anyone else.

Previous results between these two sides this season suggested it would be a tight affair today.

Both sides have won a game apiece, while they also played out a 1-1 draw Edgeley Park in March.

A goal from either side right now would transform this play-off tie, you feel.

Dave Challinor would be looking at the positives and Stockport's intensity has been better than last Saturday.

But it's been Salford who have had the chances.

Salford's defence are doing well to starve Stockport of clear opportunities.

The hosts try to work some space before Callum Camps tries to curl an effort home from the top of the box. His effort, however, is a long way off target.

He looks to the skies and mutters in frustration. That just about sums up the first half for Stockport.

He opts to go direct from a long way out and Ben Hinchliffe is down to catch the set-piece effort as it skips into the box.

  16. YELLOW CARDpublished at 33 mins

    Stockport 0-0 Salford (agg 0-1)

Isaac Olaofe tries to stop Adrian Mariappa from running the ball out of defence for Salford.

The forward is shown a yellow card for his efforts. He takes a while to pick himself up off the ground, as he took a knock in bringing Mariappa down.

  17. CLOSE!published at 31 mins

    Stockport 0-0 Salford (agg 0-1)

Paddy Madden steers Stockport's best chance wide of the target.

The forward does well to find space at the top of the box, where he meets a Ryan Rydel cross.

The finish, however, is lacking and groans echo around Edgeley Park.

  18. YELLOW CARDpublished at 29 mins

Callum Camps is the second Stockport player to pick up a yellow card in the first half hour.

He is cautioned for catching Elliot Watt after steaming into a challenge.
