The treble winning side of 99' was far superior, built out of academy players and a few stars bought with money that was accumulated through years of success. City's treble was paid for in full by oil money, it just feels synthetic and fake. To tell the truth it leaves a real sour taste.

Liverpool’s 2019/20 team was mouthwatering! What a team, what an atmosphere! Salah, Firmino, Mane, Robertson, Shaquiri. The list goes on. Klopp also did wonders with some pretty average players! Obviously people will see it as City losing it rather than Liverpool winning it though, as is always the way..

Surely the quadruple- winning Celtic side under Jock Stein in 1967 have got to be one of the greatest sides that are worth a mention.

Your views bannerImage source, BBC Sport

We asked you for your reaction to Manchester City completing the Treble.

Here are some more of your comments:

Rhys: Liverpool and Manchester City have lifted football to heights never seen before. 2018 City, 2020 Liverpool and 2023 City would run circles around the Manchester United and Arsenal teams of the past.

Andy: From watching them at Wembley in the play-off final against Gillingham, just after United won the Champions League, I never dreamed that we would win anything in my lifetime. I was just happy being a City fan. But, like so many thousands of City fans, I kept the faith.

Philip: Manchester City play for each other. They are a true team with no prima donnas. This is the manager's philosophy.

Ian: Erling Haaland was the missing link. They have world class operators in every position. No visible weaknesses. A supreme squad built to operate in four competitions. Oh… and they have the best manager in the world.

Steve: Under Pep Guardiola this side have redefined how football should be played. They are now equal to the Barcelona treble-winning side. Simply a beautiful football team!

Gary: City were nowhere near their best but they did it. Great champions find a way and City did that. They are without doubt the greatest Premier League team of the modern era.

Brentford striker Ivan Toney says missing last year's World Cup with England was a bigger punishment than the eight-month ban he received for breaking Football Association betting rules.

    Ivan ToneyImage source, Getty Images

I know Ivan Toney doesn't want people to feel sorry for him, but I do. The punishment doesn't match the crime. We're talking about gambling addiction, not match fixing. There needs to be a process in place to help gambling addicts in sport. With the focus on rehabilitation rather than punishment. Hearing people like John Hartson talking about it is heartbreaking. I imagine in a few years' time, they'll have a decent process in place. But that will be too late for people like Ivan. I wish him all the best and hope he returns even better.

J in Cardiff (not a Brentford fan)

Honestly don't know what Toney is bleating about. Knowingly broke betting rules over several years & got an 8 month ban, effectively 5 months, during which he can still train with his team. Joey Barton got 13 months.

  19. Wenger's 'Invincibles'published at 12:28 British Summer Time 12 June 2023

    Arsene WengerImage source, Getty Images

Arsene Wenger was a transformative figure following his appointment as Arsenal manager in 1996.

He adopted a cerebral approach, moulding a group of outstanding talents into a purists' dream, mixing style with steel to superb effect.

Wenger brought the young Patrick Vieira to English football, where he was joined later in his reign by fellow Frenchmen Emmanuel Petit, Thierry Henry and Robert Pires. Dennis Bergkamp was signed by predecessor Bruce Rioch but flourished even further under Wenger, while fellow Dutch superstar Marc Overmars joined him.

Wenger wisely kept the fiercely competitive bedrock of keeper David Seaman, captain Tony Adams, Steve Bould, Lee Dixon and Nigel Winterburn then slowly changed, the guard - Tottenham captain Sol Campbell switching sides in north London in a seismic free transfer move in July 2001.

Among many shrewd buys, Wenger also signed the teenage Nicolas Anelka, who helped Arsenal win the Premier League and FA Cup double in 1998, which was also won again four years later.

The crowning glory among many glories?

This has to be 'The Invincibles' who went the entire top-flight season unbeaten in 2003-04 - the first to achieve this remarkable feat since Preston in 1888-89.

Arsenal's team on the day they wrote history by beating Leicester City at Highbury on 15 May 2004 was: Lehmann, Lauren, Toure, Campbell, Cole, Ljungberg (Keown 87,) Silva, Vieira, Pires (Edu 70), Bergkamp (Reyes 82), Henry.

Do Wenger's Invincibles get your vote? Hit the thumbs.
