There are a lot of overseas broadcasters - and there are quite a few here - but you can tell who the real big hitters amongst the Premier League ranks are.

USA's NBC station have the nearest desk to the tunnel - and they are also having a long chat with Sir Alex Ferguson currently.

That doesn't happen often I can tell you.

The search will be on to see what he has said.

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana, speaking to Sky Sports: "I am very happy to be here. It is important for us to have a good start. I am excited and confident.

"We have so much quality, we have great players. I am here to do what the team needs."

I've got no bad words to say about David de Gea. He's been a fantastic servant for the club and in a way I feel a bit sorry for him. He won the Golden Glove last season and he doesn't have a club now.

But Erik ten Hag wants to play in a certain way and Andre Onana is the perfect fit for that way of playing. He's played really well for Ajax and Inter Milan.

If he can produce the same form as last season, he is a fantastic asset to the team. But we also know that if he makes a mistake in his first couple of games, questions will be asked.

It's not just questions, it's relentless pressure and I have no idea how he's going to handle that.

Gary O'Neil did an unbelievable salvage job at Bournemouth last season, and they played some good football at the end of the campaign , but this is another tough task for him.

Wolves still have some good players, but they won't be good enough to get anything at Old Trafford, and their issue is still going to be scoring goals.

I'm really interested to see what Manchester United do this season, after what they've done in the transfer market over the summer.

    Sutton's prediction: 2-0

I've got a very, very worrying feeling about Wolves.

Julen Lopetegui did a superb job in keeping them in the Premier League but he has not even made it to the start line this time, leaving amid frustrations at an inability to make the improvements he wanted, a lingering concern from last term.

This is another devastating blow for Wolves, who have shed around £90m worth of talent, including their outstanding midfield player Ruben Neves, without making any significant upgrades as they watch Financial Fair Play rules.

Lopetegui looked their best hope of staying up - now he has gone and Wolves are in crisis.

I think Manchester United have done enough to maintain their position from last year, and then if they win another trophy I think that will be seen as a success.

Have they done enough to disrupt that stronghold that Man City have had on the League, and the work Arsenal have done last year? I'm not sure.

But there is optimism because the fans really like this manager and group of players more than they have done in previous seasons.

Erik ten Hag did a fantastic job in his first season, but expectations are greater this time around. He has dealt tremendously with a number of difficult situations and fans can see he is assembling a better squad than years gone-by. It is too early to say, but I think he is the man to bring the Premier League title back to Old Trafford.

Dazzling Dave, Always Wolves Fan TV

Wolves finished 13th last season and at this point in time I'd be happy with similar this campaign. Wolves are unbeaten in pre-season and I think they could surprise many of those that have already written them off. With a few clever additions they could be pushing into the top half.

  8. Pundits have mixed predictions for Erik ten Hag's sidepublished at 19:20 British Summer Time 14 August 2023

Man Utd v Wolves (20:00 BST)

    BBC Sport

We asked our BBC pundits for their top four predictions for the season with explanations for their choices.

Here's a pick of the views on how they feel Erik ten Hag's side may perform this campaign:

Danny Murphy: I am a bit worried about United, in a positive way for them but a negative way for everyone else. I really like the business that Erik ten Hag has done.

Fara Williams: For all their progress, their lack of goals concerns me. It might take Hojlund a while to adapt, especially because he is starting the season carrying an injury.

Dion Dublin: They will be up there pushing for the top spot this season. I've got them down to finish third but they can do even better if Rasmus Hojlund becomes the top-class goalscorer they need.

Matt Upson: You can see United's progress and the new signings fit into Ten Hag's plan. But it is still only year two for him, Arsenal are a bit further along. We might see patches of form where you think 'wow, United are a real threat for the title' but also patches where they are not quite there.

The second phase of Erik ten Hag's rebuilding programme is under way after his first season brought the EFL Cup - United's first trophy since 2017 - and a return to the Champions League, as well as a run to the FA Cup final, which ended in defeat by Manchester City.

David de Gea has been replaced by Andre Onana, a keeper whose style fits more with Ten Hag's methods of playing out from the back, having worked with him at Ajax.

England midfielder Mason Mount will have sights set on reigniting his club career after a lost final season at Chelsea, and huge focus will be on new £72m striker Rasmus Hojlund. The Dane may need time and patience to become the spearhead United require, but at that price, he can hardly expect to ease his way in.

I am backing United to continue the improvements started by Ten Hag last season. No chance of the title but a decent bet for some silverware.

  10. Maguire and Henderson part of Ten Hag's planspublished at 19:16 British Summer Time 14 August 2023

Man Utd v Wolves (20:00 BST)

    Simon Stone

It is noticeable that both Harry Maguire and Dean Henderson are on the Manchester United bench tonight.

The futures of both men has been the subject of intense debate throughout the summer, with United accepting a bid from West Ham for Maguire and Henderson heavily linked with a return to Nottingham Forest.

United manager Erik ten Hag has stressed both men have a future at Old Trafford if they want it - and the presence of both in tonight's matchday squad underlines that.

Erik ten Hag says Harry Maguire would be better off leaving Manchester United if he is not confident enough to battle for a first-team spot.

The United boss is adamant he thinks Maguire can be an important part of his plans.

However, after Ten Hag took the captaincy off the 30-year-old, United then accepted a £30m bid from West Ham for him.

"He has the ability to be a top-class centre-back," said Ten Hag.

"He is the best for England so why shouldn't he be the best for us?

"But he has to prove it. When he is not confident enough to fight then he has to go, then he has to make a decision. But I'm happy with him."

I've been following Onana's career closely since his time in the Barcelona academy. United have signed who I confidently believe to be the best keeper in the world. Not only will he change United's playing style, but his shot stopping is world class too. Huge upgrade.

United had a decent team last year. Now we have a decent squad.

We needed to sign a world class central defender ( Guardiol), a defensive midfield screen ( Caceido) and a proven goalscorer ( Kane), yet showed no interest in any of them. United's transfer " strategy" is inept.

New Wolves captain Max Kilman signed a new five-year deal this week.

The 26-year-old defender signed from Maidenhead United and joined the club’s academy in 2018.

Wolves' previous two captains, Ruben Neves and Conor Coady, both left the club this summer.

Sporting director Matt Hobbs said: “This is what Max deserves. We’ve been talking to Max since the end of last season and his evolution, not just through the club, but through his role in the first-team, has built a strong foundation for him.

“There was lots of interest in Max, we had several offers, but we haven’t shifted in wanting him to stay. We believe he’s the soul of the team, having been here for a long time now, so he was never a player we considered selling.

“In what’s been an unsettled time for the club, announcing a new head coach and our captain committing long-term shows the noise outside doesn’t match what we feel is going on inside.

“There aren’t many of these stories and he’s probably not heralded as much as he should be. We know what we’ve got, he’s not one to put himself out there, but everyone at the club has so much time for Max because of the person he is. We all believe in him and the length of it shows that, but also shows how much he loves the club.”

  14. 'We have to raise the bar'published at 19:08 British Summer Time 14 August 2023

Man Utd v Wolves (20:00 BST)

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, speaking to Sky Sports: "We've laid a foundation and now we have to raise the bar. Good is not good enough and Mount is a player that can help us with those goals.

"I think Onana can play more styles of football. He is good with a high line and also in a low block.

"Last season Garnacho improved a lot. He has huge potential. He is a threat one on one. He has the end product. He can do it from the bench but I think he deserves the chance to do it from the first XI."

Manchester United's fans groups have combined together to organise and promote tonight's protests.

The silence around the club's ownership is causing major grievances, with no-one knowing what is happening, other than the Glazer family and, I assume, the Raine Group, who are running the process.

I spoke to Chris Rumfitt, an official with the Manchester United Supporters Trust earlier.

"We are nine months into a sales process and it feels like the Glazer family are holding us hostage," he said.

"They need to explain what on earth they are doing.

The bidders thought it would be over by now. The club needs it to be over now. I think the senior management of the club thought it would be over by now."

A Manchester United fan group has accused the Glazer family of holding the club "hostage" over its prolonged ownership saga.

The Glazer family launched its 'strategic review' into the club 265 days ago, when they suggested the sale of United was a possible option.

There has been no clarity regarding bids from Qatar's Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Ineos Group.

The 1958 Group, which has led recent protests against the Glazer family, have called for fans to gather next to the 'Trinity' statue outside Old Trafford today.

The move has been promoted by the Independent Manchester United Supporters' Trust, which had direct dialogue with the Glazer family when they engaged with fans following the European Super League collapse.

A spokesperson for MUST said: "As time goes on this feels less like a sale process and more like the Glazer family is holding Manchester United and its fans hostage.

"The united message of fans is clear - sell the club. And if they do not intend to do so, at least have the courage to say that and explain what the charade of the last nine months has been about.

"On the pitch, there is clear progress at United and the whole fan base is behind Erik and the team.

"But off it, the discontent about the ownership and the sale process has not gone away and will only escalate now the new season has arrived."
