    FT: Liverpool 3-1 Leicester

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live after the win over Leicester: "It was not the best start, it was actually the opposite. We had big chances in the first half and couldn't believe we didn't score.

"Leicester are a good side and very well set up. Minute by minute we turned it around and it was a good performance. There were so many little stories.

"Dom [Szoboszlai] was a surprise with how fast he has fit in, it was pretty much from the first minute. Top-class player with a lot of quality. He never stops. He learns a lot from the game."

Newcastle forward Alexander Isak: "He [Eddie Howe] wanted us to get closer to them and to sacrifice and go at them. That is what we did and we won a lot of balls second half to build on."

"The amount of competitions we are in, the squad we have and the quality of players, I am just excited by it. We made a lot of changes tonight and it is not an easy task."

  3. Moran double helps Blackburn throughpublished at 22:21 British Summer Time 27 September 2023

Teenager Andrew Moran struck twice as Blackburn Rovers thumped in-form Cardiff City 5-2 to reach round four of the Carabao Cup.

Blackburn twice led in the first half, through Jake Garrett and Arnor Sigurdsson, only to be pegged back by Callum Robinson and Kion Etete.

On-loan Brighton midfielder Moran then struck either side of Sigurdsson's missed penalty to put Rovers in charge.

Dilan Markanday's smart finish ended any slim chance of a Cardiff revival.

Free-scoring Blackburn are through to the last 16 of the League Cup for the second successive year, having responded in some style to back-to-back Championship defeats.

Bournemouth saw off Championship strugglers Stoke City to reach the Carabao Cup fourth round.

Second-half goals from Dominic Solanke and Joe Rothwell gave the Cherries their first home win under Andoni Iraola.

Solanke found the bottom corner from Adam Smith's cross, before Rothwell netted direct from a free-kick three minutes later.

The Cherries, who are yet to win in the Premier League this season, made eight changes from Sunday's defeat by Brighton. After a goalless first half with few chances for either side, Iraola's half-time changes paid off with Solanke taking just six minutes to make an impact.

Smith's cross from the right picked out Solanke in the box, with the forward finding the bottom corner on the turn to take his tally to four goals this season. Rothwell added a second three minutes later, picking out the far corner direct from a free-kick on the edge of the area.

Bournemouth are now in the last 16 of the competition for the second successive season.

    FT: Fulham 2-1 Norwich City

Alex Iwobi scored on his first start for Fulham as Marco Silva's side beat Norwich City to reach the Carabao Cup fourth round.

The Nigeria midfielder finished off a fine team move in the second half after Carlos Vinicius' first-half opener at Craven Cottage.

Norwich had more shots on target and reduced the deficit through a debut strike from Borja Sainz, but the Championship side could not find a goal to take the tie to penalties.

Vinicius put Fulham ahead on 12 minutes with a close-range finish from Willian's free-kick for his second goal in three games.

The Brazilian almost doubled the lead for Silva's side just before the break, but his first-time finish from Fode Ballo-Toure's pass was dragged just wide.

As Norwich lost possession in their own half, Fulham worked their way around the Canaries' box and Iwobi eventually scored their second in the 72nd minute with a tidy finish into the bottom corner from Harry Wilson's lay-off.

It was his first goal on his first start for the Cottagers after his deadline-day move from Everton.

David Wagner's side responded quickly as Sainz fired past Marek Rodak on the turn, but it was too little, too late for the Championship side.

Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale returned to the Arsenal starting line-up as Reiss Nelson's goal sent the Gunners into the Carabao Cup fourth round at Brentford's expense.

Mikel Arteta has opted to start David Raya ahead of Ramsdale in the last three games.

But the England international caught the eye on his return with a crucial second-half save from Yoane Wissa.

Nelson struck what proved to be the winner after just eight minutes, firing in after a poor back-pass.

A Nicolas Jackson goal saw Chelsea beat Brighton in an intense game to reach the Carabao Cup fourth round at Stamford Bridge.

These two sides have dealt with each other a lot in the past 12 months with 10 members of staff having moved to Chelsea for around £200m - and the match carried an extra edge than you'd usually get at this stage of the competition.

Jackson's winning strike came in the 50th minute after a good move.

Ian Maatsen played the ball to the excellent Cole Palmer - impressive on his first start - who put the ball through Jan Paul van Hecke's legs for Jackson to sweep home into the bottom corner.

Solly March had the chance to get Brighton level late in the second half when he was left unmarked but his header was straight at former Seagulls keeper Robert Sanchez.

Jackson's goal was the first Chelsea had scored for four matches and gave them a much-needed victory as boss Mauricio Pochettino looks to get his project moving in the right direction.

Dominik Szoboszlai's stunning second-half strike helped Liverpool come from behind to beat Leicester City in the Carabao Cup third round.

Kasey McAteer gave Leicester the lead just three minutes in as the Championship team hit their Premier League hosts on the counter-attack.

Liverpool pushed hard for a leveller and, after being denied by Conor Coady's goalline clearance, Cody Gakpo was the man who got it with a well-taken finish just after half-time.

Szoboszlai edged them ahead when, moments after being introduced as a second-half substitute, he arrowed an unstoppable shot in off the crossbar.

A nonchalant flick from Diogo Jota late on put the result beyond doubt as the 2022 winners reached the fourth round.

  9. Soucek heads West Ham to victory over Lincoln - read the reportpublished at 22:09 British Summer Time 27 September 2023

Premier League West Ham edged out League One Lincoln City to reach the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

The Hammers finally broke the deadlock in the 70th minute, when Tomas Soucek made a late run into the box to get on the end of Said Benrahma's corner.

Lincoln were made to rue the numerous chances they squandered in the first half - and Alex Mitchell had a close-range effort ruled out for offside after West Ham failed to deal with a long throw.

Reeco Hackett-Fairchild had Lincoln's best chance from Alistair Smith's cross, but he was denied by Hammers goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored again as Everton stunned Aston Villa at Villa Park to reach the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

Calvert-Lewin was jeered off by his own fans in the 4-0 thrashing here in August, but the Englishman coolly converted his side's second goal after netting at Brentford on Saturday.

It was a particularly surprising result considering Everton's performance at the ground last month when they were totally outplayed and cut apart by a rampant Villa side.

But victory over the Bees was Everton's first in the Premier League this season and Sean Dyche's side showcased their newfound confidence by deservedly sending an out-of-sorts Villa side out of the competition.

Alexander Isak scored the winner as a largely second-string Newcastle came to life after the break to beat a much-changed Manchester City and reach the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

Newcastle, who lost to Manchester United in last year's final, made 10 changes from Sunday's 8-0 win at Sheffield United and barely got a kick in a first half dominated by the visitors.

But with Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon sent on at the break, the Magpies were transformed, with Isak slotting home following fine work from Joelinton.

Disciplined but passive in the face of City's possessional dominance, Eddie Howe's men were fortunate to still be level after 45 minutes, with Julian Alvarez missing two decent chances.

Pep Guardiola opted for seven changes of his own, giving a first start to young midfielder Oscar Bobb amongst them, but the familiar patient probing was evident.

But the home side deserved their victory thanks to their second-half display, which was full of energy and endeavour and played largely in the face of a City side who could not react.
