  2. ‘Nigeria deserve a point’published at 05:33 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    FT: Nigeria 0-0 Canada

    Scott Booth

You have to say that Nigeria deserved a point there. They stuck to their task. They didn’t create too many chances but did have their moments and were helped out by a good goalkeeper in Chiamaka Nnadozie

  3. Where does that leave Group B?published at 05:33 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

Australia lead Group B with three points after beating Republic of Ireland last night. Canada and Nigeria each have a point, with the Irish yet to get off the mark.

This always looked like one of the most competitive groups at the World Cup and so it is proving to be.

Next up, Canada face Republic on 26 July, with Nigeria facing the Australians a day later.

    FT: Nigeria 0-0 Canada

Nigeria will be very much the happier, they fought hard against the Olympic champions and one of the World Cup favourites, and got a hard earned point.

For Canada, it is disappointment and especially so for Christine Sinclair, who misses the chance to become the first player to score at six Fifa World Cups.

She was denied by Nigeria keeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, who would be my pick for player of the match. Only 22, she didn't put a foot wrong.

  5. ‘That was a leg-breaker challenge’published at 05:29 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Nigeria 0-0 Canada

    Scott Booth
Lewes FC manager on BBC Two

That was a leg-breaker challenge by Deborah Abiodun. That could have been serious. It’s good to see Ashley Lawrence on her feet after that.

  6. FULL-TIMEpublished at 05:29 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Nigeria 0-0 Canada

The first stalemate of the World Cup.

  7. YELLOW CARDpublished at 90+10 mins

    Nigeria 0-0 Canada

Evelyne Viens, who has been all-action for Canada since coming on, is the latest in the referee's book for a late tackle.

  8. RED CARDpublished at 90+8 mins

    Nigeria 0-0 Canada

Abiodun is sent off! It was a late, high tackle on Ashley Lawrence, and a red card is the right result.

Nigeria must see out the remaining seconds with 10 players.

  9. VAR

Video Assistant Refereepublished at 90+7 mins

    Nigeria 0-0 Canada

Now we have a VAR check for a possible red card!

Deborah Abiodun was booked for a late tackle, but could now be in trouble...

  10. Postpublished at 90+6 mins

    Nigeria 0-0 Canada

    Pass, pass, pass go Canada.

Cloe Lacasse's cross, deflected for a corner.

  11. CLOSE!published at 90+4 mins

    Nigeria 0-0 Canada

    Oooh!

Sophie Schmidt with a hopeful shot from wide on the left, which Chiamaka Nnadozie doesn't really deal with, it bounces off her chest and drops wide.

Nigeria defend the corner, as we enter last minute winner territory.

  12. Postpublished at 90+2 mins

    Nigeria 0-0 Canada

We will have more than eight minutes, as Evelyne Viens accidentally stands on Osinachi Ohale's hand.

Ohale is fine, but that's a painful one.

  13. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 90 mins

    Nigeria 0-0 Canada

Asisat Oshoala is withdrawn, replaced by Jennifer Echegini. A sign Nigeria are happy to hang on now.

They will have to hang on for EIGHT minutes added time.

  14. Postpublished at 89 mins

    Nigeria 0-0 Canada

Side note, a 0-0 result would be great news for Republic of Ireland - after their defeat to Australia in Group B last night, a draw keeps them in the hunt to progress as a top two finisher.

On the basis of both games, the Irish should hold no fear of either Canada or Nigeria.

  15. Postpublished at 87 mins

    Nigeria 0-0 Canada

Corner Canada, Jordyn Huitema guides a tame header straight at Chiamaka Nnadozie.

    The seconds tick down.

  16. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 85 mins

    Nigeria 0-0 Canada

Onumonu comes off for Nigeria, and is replaced by Esther Okoronkwo.

Five minutes remain. Will we see a winner?

  17. Postpublished at 84 mins

    Nigeria 0-0 Canada

More confusion from a corner, Sheridan again unconvincing on the punch.

This time she was fouled however, so Canada escape.

  18. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 83 mins

    Nigeria 0-0 Canada

Canada forward Nichelle Prince is sent on in place of holding midfielder Julia Grosso.

Bev Priestman is going for this.

  19. GREAT SAVE!published at 82 mins

    Nigeria 0-0 Canada

Kailen Sheridan doesn't know the offside flag will go up - this is a great save!

It's a dangerous Nigeria break down the right, with a low ball pulled back towards Uchenna Kanu who has space in the box.

She cuts her shot back across goal, and Sheridan makes a fantastic save with her left foot.

There was an offside in the build up, but that still feels like a let-off for Canada.

  20. ‘Pressure growing on Canada’published at 05:07 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Nigeria 0-0 Canada

    Scott Booth
Lewes FC manager on BBC Two

The longer this game goes, the pressure grows on Canada. If Nigeria get a chance, can they take it?
