Vietnam captain and star striker Huynh Nhu has run herself into the ground, and is replaced with 15 minutes to play.

She is harshly yellow carded for taking too long to get off the pitch, she makes the point she wa trying to pass on her armband.

Pham Hai Yen replaces her.

Now, here's a name to remember.

18-year-old Alyssa Thompson comes on, becoming the second youngest player to ever represent USA at a Women's World Cup.

Trinity Rodman is replaced.

Here come Vietnam!

Good interplay by Huynh Nhu and Thi Thao moves the ball forward quickly, however Thi Thao plays her cross too early and into the arms of Alyssa Naeher.

A bit too naive there.

Not a moment for Megan Rapinoe's World Cup scrapbook.

She and Rose Lavelle combine, her fellow sub cutting the ball across goal, however Rapinoe absolutely skies her shot from eight yards.

She looks very unimpressed. That was a sitter.

I don't think United States are in too much danger of losing this match - they have just passed back to keeper Alyssa Naeher, presumably to keep her warm.

It's a case of whether they really want to step up to get a big win - and whether they can get their shooting radars sorted.

The USA contrive to miss another chance!

A deep cross is palmed off Lindsay Horan's head by Kim Thanh, before Megan Rapinoe's first act of the game is to hook the ball back across the goal.

It eventually falls to onrushing right back Emily Fox, however she blasts over the top.

SUBSTITUTIONS

Two changes for both sides - Thi Thu and Bich Thuy come off for Vietnam, Thi Kieu and Anh Nguyen on.

Meanwhile for USA, Megan Rapinoe has come on for her 200th international appearance to a huge ovation.

Also coming on is Rose Lavelle, star in 2019 but who was an injury doubt for this World Cup. This is her first match since April.

The impressive Savannah Demelo's debut is over, while Alex Morgan is withdrawn after a frustrating afternoon.

By this time of USA v Thailand in 2019, the Americans were 7-0 up.

Vietnam have proved much tougher opponents.

Bich Thuy is caught again, this time by Andi Sullivan. She's been in the wars this half and smacks the turf in pain.

Subs are being readied for Vietnam.

YELLOW CARD

First booking of the game - and surprisingly, it goes to an American.

Lindsay Horan caught Bich Thuy late, and goes into the book.

Another American free kick near the left corner flag after a handball by Thu Thao, swung in deep by Savannah Demelo which Kim Tranh does well just to tip behind for a corner.

Andi Sullivan pings in the set piece straight at Tranh, and the rebound heads the same way. However the Vietnam keeper stands tall, as she has all game.

Fair to say Vietnam's players love a tackle. There's been one or two crunching challenges by the team in red.

It's approaching mid-afternoon in Auckland and it's been a pleasant winter's day with the sun even making an appearance.

But it's the USA who are turning up the heat as they get closer and closer to a third goal.

A break in play as one of the Vietnam players gets treatment. They need a breather after that start to the second half.

The move leading to the Horan chance was stellar, such quick movement by the US. Once they warm up into this tournament, they will be dangerous.

A wonderful cross from Trinity Rodman from the right wing, Lindsay Horan has all the space to side foot her volley home but can only send it narrowly wide.

Had the USA brought their shooting boots, this could be any score already.

Sophia Smith should have a hat-trick, however she fails to connect properly with her shot after a long ball over the top, and skews wide.
