Sarina Bolden is full of confidence after getting on the scoresheet. She nut-megs Indiah-Paige Riley on the left and almost tees up Sofia Harrison.

Bolden is then the target for a cross clipped in from the right and it's uncomfortable for goalkeeper Victoria Esson.

New Zealand want an immediate response. Malia Steinmetz beats the full-back on the right and earns a corner when her cross is put behind.

    Sarina Bolden (24 mins)

    Woooooooooow!

A huge moment for the Philippines. It means so much to Sarina Bolden, who wheels away in celebration, roaring in delight and being chased by her team-mates.

She heads straight to the touchline where she is dragged under by the substitutes.

It's another good delivery into the box from a set-piece, New Zealand fail to clear it and Bolden heads it past the goalkeeper from close range.

Ria Percival gives away a foul in the middle and the Philippines have a free-kick. It's sent in deep but goalkeeper Victoria Esson comes out to gather it in comfortably.

    New Zealand 0-0 Philippines

New Zealand are trying that long ball, aiming for Hannah Wilkinson, who manages to knock it down for Jacqui Hand.

She tees up CJ Bott and her shot is blocked. It's been quite predictable from the co-hosts.

Plenty of possession for New Zealand so far but as you can see, the majority of it has been between the two boxes.

    No cutting edge so far.

    New Zealand 0-0 Philippines

Angela Beard does really well to stop Hannah Wilkinson getting on the end of a long ball and wins a goal kick.

The Philippines are growing into this a bit more but we've still had no shots on target.

    New Zealand 0-0 Philippines

Much better from the Philippines down the right but Sarina Bolden is quickly closed down by Ali Riley.

    New Zealand 0-0 Philippines

Hali Long does well to clear another New Zealand cross, this time from CJ Bott.

But it comes back in again from the right and Hannah Wilkinson, slightly off-balanced, skews a first-time strike way over the bar.

    New Zealand 0-0 Philippines

A rare forray over the halfway line for the Philippines but the pass through to Sofia Harrison on the left is far too heavy.

    New Zealand 0-0 Philippines

The co-hosts look fluid. Jacqui Hand and Hannah Wilkinson link-up to win a corner.

Ria Percival floats it in, it's headed on and Indiah-Paige Riley tries to flick it over the line with her back to goal but it rolls out harmlessly.

Mexican referee Katia Garcia has got an issue with her technical equipment and needs some help from the fourth official.

That will guarentee a minute of stoppage time already.

  14. Postpublished at 3 mins

    New Zealand 0-0 Philippines

Jacqui Hand drives down the left and pulls it back into the six-yard area but it's well blocked.

Betsy Hassett then tests the Philippines defence with another teasing cross which is headed clear. Bright start by New Zealand.

New Zealand know they are through to the last-16 if they see off the Philippines, which is a huge incentive, and I think we will see them go on the attack straight away.

The home crowd will be right behind them again too, and it is going to be tough for the Philippines to stop them. 2-0

New Zealand beat the Philippines 2-1 last year in a friendly and will be hopeful of repeating that today.

Their surprise 1-0 win over Norway on the opening day was their first-ever Women's World Cup win.

Midfielder Malia Steinmetz said: "It's one of our main reasons why we've been trying to push so hard to play in the way that we do, is just for the younger generation.

"We want to inspire the country and I think you can see parts of that and we just want to keep the ball rolling and keep inspiring more if we can."

The Philippines are hoping to bounce back from a 2-0 loss to Switzerland in their World Cup opener.

Their coach, Australian Alen Stajcic, said: "You have to block all that [home support] out and embrace it.

"It's a brilliant occasion, so to be playing in front of such a big crowd and TV audience is a really special moment.

"You have to go out there and give it your best shot, so as motivating as it will be for New Zealand, it is for our team as well."

I was in Sydney at the fan park on the opening day of the World Cup when New Zealand upset Norway to pick up their first win.

There was a brilliant atmosphere with Australian fans urging on their neighbouring co-hosts.

Another win here today, against the Philippines who are ranked 46th in the world, means New Zealand could progress to the last 16.

If they were to progress, it would be a huge achievement considering they are in a group with European nations Norway and Switzerland.

Prior to their opening day victory at Eden Park, New Zealand had never won a match at the World Cup. So this is a BIG chance now, given they are facing one of the eight debutants at the tournament.
