    China 0-0 Haiti

The Steel Roses are definitely looking the more threatening side. They are pushing forward, but they haven't troubled goalkeeper Kerly Theus yet.

Haiti, who looked so dangerous on the counter-attack against England, are lacking that same energy at the moment.

    China 0-0 Haiti

Lou Jiahui makes a run own the right wing and plays in a cross, but it's blocked Kethna Louis.

I'm not sure there were any Chinese players in the box to do anything with the ball if it had found its way through.

They can't. It's taken quickly and short, and as the ball eventually makes its way into the box, it's cleared by the Haiti defence.

China are focused on maintaining possession at the moment. They're not forcing it.

They've got a corner. Can they make something of it?

    China 0-0 Haiti

Haiti's Kerly Theus made 10 saves in her side's first match against England - a joint-high among all goalkeepers in the opening matchday of this Women’s World Cup.

I don't think she will be quite as busy today against China, but let's see.

China keep possession in the opening couple of minutes as they push forward.

They are playing in red, while Haiti are sporting an all-white kit.

  8. How things stand in Group Dpublished at 11:57 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    China v Haiti (12:00 BST)

So after England scraped another 1-0 win, this time over Denmark, both Haiti and China both know what they need from today's game.

With England now sitting on 6 points at the top of Group D, China will exit the tournament today if they lose to Haiti.

It would be the first time they have missed out on the knockout stages of the tournament, having appeared at every World Cup since 1991 except the 2011 edition.

If Haiti are defeated today, they still have the chance of making it to the last 16, but they would need a remarkable victory over Denmark in their last group stage game.

Haiti may have been defeated by England in their first-ever Women's World Cup match, but there were bright signs for the debutants, especially from teenager Melchie Dumornay.

The 19-year-old Lyon midfielder caused the Lionesses problems with her pace and skill and her stand-out performance earned her top prize in our player rater.

She had five touches in England's box and created three chances, with only Georgia Stanway (four) creating more for either side.

Will she prove the difference for Haiti today? If so, she'll have to do it off the bench.

China looked well organised against Denmark, but they don't seem to have much in attack.

In contrast, we all saw how dangerous Haiti were against England.

They have offered far more going forward than any of the other World Cup debutants, and I would be very surprised if they don't get some goals to show for it this time.

    Brown-Finnis' prediction: 1-2

Haiti coach Nicolas Delepine says his side's impressive performance against European champions England will only count if they take on China in the same fashion.

"We were very happy after the England game because we received a lot of compliments from other countries," Delepine said.

"But the message I want to say is that it will only count if we face China in the same way.

"We have to be credible and show the world the work we have put in and perform at the best level possible."

Haiti will be without key defender Jennyfer Limage, who ruptured her ACL in the defeat by Sarina Wiegman's side.

"For us, everything is possible," said Delepine.

"We lost against England but we put up a good performance, it has given us good confidence against China who are a very good team."

Haiti fought hard against England in their last match but Georgia Stanway's penalty was the difference to earn England a narrow 1-0 victory.

Meanwhile, China were undone by a 90th-minute Denmark winner in the other Group D match.

Here's a reminder of their performances...

Hello, and thank you for joining our live text coverage of China v Haiti.

There were promising signs for China and Haiti in their opening Group D matches, but both sides fell to narrow defeats in the end.

Haiti may be the 53rd ranked team in the world but they really challenged Sarina Wiegman's Euro-winning England side, while China proved defensively sound until a last-gasp winner from Denmark.

Can debutants Haiti earn their very first World Cup win against the 14th ranked Steel Roses, who have reached the knockout stages in every World Cup they have played in?

We'll find out shortly as this match gets underway at 12:00 BST in Adelaide, Australia.
