Wonderful combination, what a ball in from Kadidiatou Diani.

Eugenie Le Sommer stays central, Diani holds the right position and it's a lovely little weighted header and the simplest of flick on finishes from Le Sommer.

It's a beautifully worked opener for France.

Le Sommer is such a clever player. She got between the two Brazil centre-halves in the smallest of gaps.

Diani found her beautifully. Really good pair up top.

France's Selma Bacha fouls her opponent and is lucky to not get a yellow for either that or the following complaint to the referee.

Adriana goes for goal with the 25-yard free-kick but shoots just wide. Close, but not close enough.

You could tell Kenza Dali was going for that regardless if she got ball, player or both. In the end it was all player and Tamires could have been taking off at Brisbane Airport she was launched that high.

The fans in yellow gave a massive cheers when the yellow card came out.

It's been lively, this.

A chance for Eugenie le Sommer, but the glancing header, which would have crept inside the corner, is saved by Leticia.

A nervous moment for French goalkeeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin. The ball is played back from Maelle Lakrar, Peyraud-Magnin wants the ball to go across her body but Geyse very quickly closes her down.

The clearance bounces off Geyse, but fortunately for the French keeper, just for a throw-in.

We then get the first booking of the match with a sliding challenge from Kenza Dali on Tamires. The French player will need to be careful for the next 80 minutes.

I do like the France front three of Kenza Dali, Kadidiatou Diani and Eugenie Le Sommer.

Eve Perisset, who plays for Chelsea and is back in the France side after being among the subs versus Jamaica, tries her luck from 25 yards out but it was always rising and goes well over the bar with Leticia unconcerned.

I don't think it would be overstating to say that around 90% of the fans at Brisbane Stadium are backing Brazil. The noise whenever a player in yellow does anything is immense.

Fast start on the pitch too. This is teeing up nicely.

A lot of Brazil's players play across Europe.

We have seen togetherness from them, stalwarts mixed with younger players.

Joy off the pitch and bringing the quality on the pitch.

France's Eugenie le Sommer looks to race through but she looked offside when she collected the ball and after a lot of wasted energy when she runs to the penalty area, is finally given offside.

Still, if she can time that run better against a high line, she could well have a fruitful evening.

It's a game of two teams who have been perennial underachievers.

Can either team get the formula right? It's going to be an exciting, open flair filled game with colour. We have seen that from the anthems.

Brazilians play with joy and with flair and today I want to see all of that.

France get us under way.

The atmosphere here in Brisbane is absolutely electric.

The music cut out for the final verse of the Brazilian anthem and the acapella from the fans from spine tingling. What a noise!

The French rendition wasn't half bad either.

We're going to be in for an absolute treat here.

Pia Sundhage channeled her inner emperor from Amadeus, complaining that Mozart's music contained too many notes, when talking about Brazil's attack.

Brazil put four past Panama but could have had more - and the veteran Swedish manager said she was trying to drill into the players that not every goal has to be perfect.

"Sometimes there are too many passes, sometimes not enough! Typical Brazil!," she said.

"But all I expect is that they work together. If they are on the same page I am fine.

"There is a balance needed, in practice the players want to score nice goals, they try all types of stuff. But to score goals is the most important thing.

"When they are fancy and it works it is beautiful and I have to allow them to do that - but I also have to remind them scoring goals is cool."

Brazil's performance matched the fans energy in the opening game, the fluidity that they played with for anybody watching football was exciting.

The flair and the intensity they played with and they looked like one of the favourites having come into the tournament with nobody really speaking about them.

They were a little bit unknown, nobody knew what to expect from them but that opening game was fantastic and this game excites me for that reason.

France v Brazil at the Women's World Cup is a repeat of a last 16 meeting at the 2019 tournament.

France, who hosted that tournament, beat the South Americans 2-1 after extra time. Indeed, Brazil have never beaten in the French in 10 women's internationals since 2013.

"It was a bitter loss for us at the last World Cup," Brazil defender Luana told the pre-match press conference.

"What we can bring from that game is that result was defined by details. For this game we can focus on set pieces, on the strongest players they have."
