  1. Docherty disappointed Dee didn't winpublished at 18:12 British Summer Time 5 August 2023

    FT: Dundee 1-1 Motherwell

Dundee boss Tony Docherty tells Sportsound: "I was pleased and not very often would you say you're pleased with a point at home.

"Going in at 1-0 down at half-time was against the run of play, probably a bit unjust. We were the better team in the first half. It was important that we showed the belief we could still get something from the game and I was really pleased with the response.

"We hit the post twice and we're unlucky not to win. We had 17 shots and I thought we were the better time."

  2. 'Quality off the bench told in the end' - McAvoypublished at 18:12 British Summer Time 5 August 2023

FT: St Johnstone 0-2 Heart of Midlothian

Hearts head coach Frank McAvoy tells BBC Scotland: “Historically, St Johnstone have always made it tough for Hearts coming here, we knew that before it.

“We knew they were a wounded animal, I call them a wounded lion I think it was, so we what it would be like in terms of coming here.

“When it started they started to throw balls into the box, long throws, corners, free-kicks, just everything on top of us and that’s probably one of the areas we needed to do better on and I thought over the piece we did that today.

“Obviously, getting the two goals in the second half just puts the icing on the cake and the clean sheet is massive for us."

  3. Draw a fair result - Kettlewellpublished at 18:10 British Summer Time 5 August 2023

    FT: Dundee 1-1 Motherwell

Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell tells Sportsound: "It was a hard fought game. It was almost like a November-December fixture, because of the conditions. It was incredible, it never stopped throughout the match.

"There was doubt surrounding the game, because of the water on the far side. We're not used to that, even in Scotland, at this time of year. I've got to pay testament to both sets of players, they showed a lot of character and determination.

"We put ourselves in a good position and the disappointment comes from the nature of the goal that we concede. Both goalkeepers would probably expect to be worked more than we were.

"A draw is probably a fair result."

  4. 'It was hard to play any football'published at 18:09 British Summer Time 5 August 2023

    FT: Livingston 0-0 Aberdeen

Aberdeen manager Barry Robson: "It was hard to move the ball at any sort of speed, which is to be expected down here so we prepared for that.

"When Duk and Bojan [Miovski] get their shooting boots on, we'll be a lot stronger.

"Credit to Livingston, they slowed it down. Every time we broke on a transition they fouled us, which is fair enough, but it was hard for us to get into any sort or rhythm."

    HT: Kilmarnock 0-0 Rangers

Indeed, Kilmarnock have at times looked the more threatening side.

  7. HALF-TIME Kilmarnock 0-0 Rangerspublished at 18:01 British Summer Time 5 August 2023

The half-time whistle blows to bring a close 45 minutes of few chances.

Kilmarnock will be the happier, having subdued their big-spending visitors and limited any clear-cut chances.

Rangers have looked laboured in their first competitive outing of the season.

    Cyriel Dessers is involved again.

It looks like the Rangers striker could take the shot on himself, but he lays it back into the path of John Lundstram and the midfielder fires a powerful drive that's touched over by goalkeeper Will Dennis.

I think Dessers has got to do better there.

He hasn't got too clean a strike away.

    Kilmarnock 0-0 Rangers

Cyriel Dessers has had the fewest touches of any player in the game so far.

However, the former Cremonese striker is presented with a big chance as Abdallah Sima's low cross is cleared from in front of goal.

His shot is straight at Will Dennis and the Kilmarnock goalkeeper holds.

Rangers are looking a bit disjointed, but they force a corner.

The ball bobbles towards the goalline from James Tavernier's inswinger into a sea of legs, but goalkeeper Will Dennis is down well to save at feet.

Kilmarnock look a threat from set plays.

That's something Derek McInnes has always been good at coaching.

What a tackle from Lewis Mayo.

The former Rangers centre-half nicks the ball away from Cyriel Dessers as the former Cremonese striker races clear.

However, the flag was up in any case.

    KIlmarnock 0-0 Rangers

    Rory Loy
Former Dundee & St Mirren forward on BBC Scotland

I'm trying to work out the formation Rangers are playing.

When they go forward, it's almost like a box shape in midfield and the width is coming from the full-backs.

After that early spell of passing dominance from Rangers, the visitors have lost a bit of control.

Kilmarnock have done well to knock them out their stride.
