Although neither team were able to find the net in the opening 45 minutes, there is certainly room for optimism for both sets of fans.
Stevie May has been a real thorn for the Hearts defence, with the power of Dan Phillips in midfield really catching the eye.
For the visitors, Lawrence Shankland looks as sharp as ever, with fellow forward Yutara Oda starting the new campaign as he ended the last one.
Conditions really poor, but both sets of players have handled the wet pitch excellently with concentration levels at a premium.
FT: Celtic 4-2 Ross County
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers tells BBC Sportsound: “First game there’s always a wee bit of nerves, so it’s good win for us. We didn’t start the game well and County made it really difficult for us.
“Once we found our space and combinations, we scored a couple of really good goals and played some fantastic football. The two goals we gave away are soft."
On starting David Turnbull: “He’s got that quality and ability. I can only assess from what I’ve seen. He’s been excellent in training and in the games.
“What I do for players is create an environment. He’ll determine how far he foes. He’s at an age now where he can take that on he can become a very, very important player for us. Hopefully this is a nice confidence boost for him.”
On a likely departure for centre-half Carl Starfelt: “He’s a player we’d to keep, but if he doesn’t want to be here, we have to close the deal. That’s something that’ll develop next week. If you lose someone of his quality, you need to replace that.”
Not a lot to report so far. The delay in kick-off due to VAR-related issues has been the most dramatic part of the afternoon.
Liam Gordon's early miss for Saints and Peter Haring's missed header at the other end were the pick of the chances, but neither hit the target, which is the story of the game so far.
St Johnstone have looked strong from set pieces and Hearts' pace on the break has been impressive though.

The weather has been the winner so far at Dens Park, with the heavy rain making conditions difficult for both sets of players. Chances have been few and far between, but the visitors have had the best of them.
New signing Theo Bair has repaid the faith Stuart Kettlewell has showed in him after the striker was ditched by St Johnstone - with a fine finish to give the visitors the lead at the break.
Hopefully the rain the stops and we can get a bit more quality in the second half.

This hasn't been a classic! Far from it. Too many stray passes, no real fluency from either side and very few shots on target.
One thing on show in the first half was the physical nature of the game...both sides have been showing that in bucket loads.
Hopefully we'll see some improvement the second 45 minutes in terms of entertainment...and maybe some goals!
If you remember the Scotland v Georgia game in June then you have a pretty decent picture of what this game has looked like.
Wet and wild, players soaked to the skin with fans running for cover. The heavens have well and truly opened in Tayside.
Dundee had the better start, pinning Motherwell in their own box, but the visitors came back into it and it was Theo Bair who opened the scoring - rifling low after Stephen O'Donnell's cross to nab a goal on his debut.
As Stephen Craigan bellowed on Sportsound... 'Feed the Bair, Kennyyyyy!'
St Johnstone 0-0 Heart of Midlothian
Hearts are knocking it about well on the edge of the area, with Yutaro Oda taking some smart touches to give himself space to pick his pass.
Ultimately, the move breaks down, but the visitors have been looking sharp on the break.
It feels as though Livingston and Aberdeen are still on their summer holidays.
Nothing worthy of note has happened in West Lothian, other than a few yellow cards being sprayed around by referee John Beaton due to the physical nature of the game.
Theo Bair
Feed the bear and he will score! Motherwell counter down the right with Stephen O'Donnell crossing low. Bair meets it on the half-volley and connects sweetly, putting it through the keeper's legs.
A goal on debut!

Bradley Rodden
Bradley Rodden second of the game restores Alloa's two-goal lead.
Livingston 0-0 Aberdeen
Powerful play from Joel Nouble allows the Livingston striker to slip in Mo Sangare, blistering down the left.
He feeds a teasing ball across the box, hoping to find Jamie Brandon, but the midfielder just can't quite reach it.
Best passage of play.
Dundee 0-0 Motherwell
Motherwell have come right back into it. Striker Conor Wilkinson has swung a big left foot at a few shots. One flew miles over the bar, but the other was deflected just wide.
The weather really is affecting the game, it must be said. The ball is holding up on the pitch and the players are slipping and sliding all over the place.
St Johnstone 0-0 Heart of Midlothian
Plenty is happening at McDiarmid Park - just not in front of the goal.
Frankie Kent gathers the ball deep in his own half and St Johnstone's Daniel Phillips comes flying in and catches an outstretched leg of the Hearts defender.
Just a booking for the Saints midfielder, but it was quite a lunge.
