While the return of Sam Kerr and Fran Kirby has been very welcome for Chelsea fans they are currently without Norway winger Guro Reiten.

The 29-year-old is sidelined with injury and missed the last match against West Ham, too.

Reiten was the league's top assist-maker last season and her partnership with Kerr is undeniable. She also popped up with that late, late equaliser against Manchester City a couple of weeks ago.

They will want her back fit and firing as soon as possible.

Chelsea will move level on points with Manchester City at the top of the table if they win an 18th consecutive home game when Brighton & Hove Albion visit Kingsmeadow.

Sweden winger Rytting Kaneryd scored her first goal for the Blues when they won this fixture 3-1 last season. "I was waiting a long time for it," the 26-year-old said this week.

"Brighton gave us a really tough game that day. We created a lot of chances and then Sam [Kerr] gave me an opportunity to score my first goal, so it was just a case of putting it in."

"Tough" is also the word Albion boss Melissa Phillips used when she discussed her side's pursuit of consecutive away victories for the first time since March 2022 following their 2-1 win at Everton on the opening day.

"We have had a good week on the training pitch working on the things we need to improve," said Phillips, whose team could move into the top half of the table with victory. "We're looking forward to the game a lot."

Emma Hayes makes four alterations to her starting line-up from the Chelsea side who started the 2-0 win at home to West Ham eight days ago.

Ann-Katrin Berger starts in goal and Sjoeke Nusken, Eve Perisset and Kadeisha Buchanan also come in.

That means Zecira Musovic, Maren Mjelde and Ashley Lawrence are on the bench, with Melanie Leupolz out injured. Catarina Macario and Katerina Svitkova remain long-term absentees.

Brighton ring six changes from their 3-1 home defeat by Tottenham a week ago. Chelsea loanee Nicky Evrard does not play against her parent club and is replaced by Sophie Baggaley, while Poppy Pattinson, Charlize Rule, Maisie Symonds and Julia Olme are on the bench.

Top scorer Elisabeth Terland is among the substitutes, having been monitored during the week because of a hamstring injury.

Emma Kullberg, Jorelyn Carabalí, Li Mengwen, Tatiana Pinto, Pauline Bremer and Lee Geum-Min all also come in.
