Funnily United have looked better since bringing a load of kids on at the break.

It was a lovely assist by 18-year-old Daniel Gore, who has no first-team experience.

Joe Hugill has had a few touches too.

That was a cracking finish from Donny van de Beek, arriving in the box to cares Daniel Gore's right-wing cross past Remy Riou with a beautifully timed volley.

Could that finally kick-start the Dutchman's troubled career at United?

It may only be the second game of pre-season, but the lad could do with a change of fortune.

Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek was ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury back in January.

"On the long term it is looking really good, he will be back for the start of pre-season," said United manager Erik ten Hag at the time.

"The rest of the season he is out."

  12. Rooney on Rashford 'legacy'published at 15:00 British Summer Time 19 July 2023

Not many people know how to bring success to Old Trafford better than Wayne Rooney. Manchester United's record goalscorer has had his say on Marcus Rashford and what he must do in order to take his career to the next level.

Rashford signed a new deal worth £325,000-per-week with United yesterday after scoring 30 goals last season, but he must now push on even further.

The former United skipper told David Ornstein: "I think Marcus Rashford is an incredible talent. I’m delighted he’s signed a new deal.

"The next five years for him are going to be really important in his legacy because he can score a lot of goals, but if he really wants to go to that level which Mbappe and Haaland are at then he has to be the man to get Manchester United back to winning trophies and league titles. I hope he can do that."

Jude Bellingham has been named in the Real Madrid squad for their tour of the United States.

Bellingham joined Real from Borussia Dortmund for £88.5m this summer, opting to extend his career in Spain rather than return to England and join one of the long list of Premier League clubs who wanted to sign the 20-year-old.

Bellingham could make his debut in Sunday's game against AC Milan in Los Angeles.

Real go on to play Manchester United, Barcelona and Juventus.

Jonny Evans received a warm round of applause from the United fans as he led the subs out to warm up as the interval approaches.

Remarkable to think the 35-year-old Northern Ireland international is back at Old Trafford, albeit only on a short-term deal as it stands, while he considers his options after leaving Leicester.

Could one of those options be a longer-term return to United?

You suspect if Ten Hag has seen enough in training to want to use him in pre-season, then he's considering - given the uncertainty over Harry Maguire's future at the club - whether he might just provide some additional cover for Varane and Martinez.

Time for a second United debut in the second half?

When I say nah I mean it's not given. A replay shows Alvaro Fernandez got more man than ball. I'm sure VAR would be having a look if this was the Prem.
