Not too much early action it has to be said.

Well, it doesn't have to be said, I'm choosing to say it.

Leeds haven't scored a first half goal in any three of their league and cup games so far this season.

Nigel: Interesting game this. Leeds down to their last three midfielders and only five outfield players on the bench are some how favourites against a West Brom side who are broke and struggling to balance the books.

That's certainly one way to sell this game Nigel...

How do you see this one going?

If you think Leeds are going to get their first home win of the season give this post a thumbs up and if you think it'll be a draw or a Baggies win then hit the down thumb.

  7. Sharp-shooter Awoniyi gives Forest lead over Bladespublished at 19:57 British Summer Time 18 August 2023

    Nott'm Forest 1-0 Sheffield United

This isn't the only game taking place this evening.

In the Premier League Nottingham Forest are taking on Sheffield United at the City Ground, with both teams looking for their first point of the season.

Taiwo Awoniyi has given the home side a very early lead against the promoted Blades in the 19:45 BST kick off.

  8. Corberan gives troubled Albion cause for hopepublished at 19:53 British Summer Time 18 August 2023

West Brom are a timely reminder of what can go wrong for any club that do not make it back up to the Premier League before the parachute payments run out.

The Baggies, who went up with Leeds three years ago, are now under their third boss since instant relegation under Sam Allardyce in May 2021, having quickly dispensed with the services of both Valerien Ismael (224 days) and Steve Bruce (252 days), neither of whom won over their fans.

Carlos Corberan, by way of contrast, is 298 days into his reign - and still very much has the backing of the Baggies supporters. It is the cash-strapped Albion board to whom last season's protests and this summer's complaints were directed - and, in the minds of many, purely down to him that there is any cause for optimism at The Hawthorns.

So far in this August transfer window, Corberan has been allowed to bring in just two signings, on-loan Brighton winger Jeremy Sarmiento and free agent striker Josh Maja. But he still publicly suggests that the last fortnight before the window shuts on 1 September will prove a bit more hectic as he looks to build on last weekend’s timely but unnecessarily fraught 3-2 home win over Swansea City.

Former Leeds coach Corberan was already at Thorp Arch working as under-23 coach when Marcelo Bielsa arrived in 2018 before being promoted to work as assistant coach under the man who became his mentor in 2019-20, when Leeds pipped Slaven Bilic's Baggies to the Championship title.

After Bielsa's dismissal, Corberan himself was linked with the Leeds job when his replacement Jesse Marsch was also sacked in February but instead chose to sign a contract extension with Albion - and remains full of hope.

  9. Team Newspublished at 19:49 British Summer Time 18 August 2023

West Brom make one change from the 3-2 win over Cardiff as striker Brandon Thomas-Asante comes back in.

Leeds XI: Meslier, Ayling, Rodon, Struijk, Byram; Ampadu, Gray, Shackleton, James, Gelhardt, Rutter.

Subs: Klaesson, Darlow, Cresswell, Drameh, Gyabi, Bate, Greenwood.

West Brom XI: Palmer, Ajayi, Kipre, Pieters, Furlong, Molumby, Yokuslu, Phillips, Wallace, Thomas-Asante, Swift.

Subs: Griffiths, Bartley, Fellows, Chalobah, Townsend, Sarmiento, Mowatt, Gardner-Hickman, Maja.

Good evening and welcome to live text coverage of tonight's Championship match between Leeds and West Brom.

It has been a chastening start to the season for the home side, on and off the pitch.

The Whites, relegated from the Premier League in May, were buoyed by a long-awaited takeover and the appointment of Championship promotion expert Daniel Farke at the start of the summer.

However, Farke has had to content with numerous players leaving and now some of those who remain refusing to play. Forwards Luis Sinisterra and Willy Gnonto will not be involved tonight at their own request, with the latter having handed in a written transfer request today.

On the pitch, they've picked up just one point from their opening two matches and injuries, combined with "unavailable" players, meant they named two goalkeepers amongst a bench of eight subs last week.

Amid the chaos, can they register a first league win since April tonight?

West Brom, and former Leeds coach Carlos Corberan stand in their way.

Fifteen minutes until kick off, let's take a look at the team news.
