The Bundesliga are going for a classic look with their match ball this season.

Got to be honest whenever I see a ball like this it makes me think of former Bayern Munich and German goalscoring great Gerd Muller.

Harry Kane signed for Bayern Munich because he wanted "to compete and prove myself at the highest level."

Basically code for wanting to win trophies given he has got two English League Cup and one Champions League runners-up medals to show from his time at Tottenham, which began when he joined their academy as a schoolboy in 2004.

And he's pretty good chance given the Bavarians have won the last 11 consecutive Bundesliga titles and last won the Champions League in 2020.

In terms of this evening, it'll be interesting to see how he adapts to a new style of play and new teammates but it's probably worth remembering that Werder Bremen have not beaten Bayern since 2008, when Mesut Ozil, Claudio Pizarro and Per Mertesacker were lining up for them

Raphael Honigstein delves into what Harry Kane could bring to Bayern Munich on the Football Daily Podcast Euro League's:

“It is going to be heavy the number nine shirt as no one has worn it since Robert Lewandowski and nobody has done that job since Lewandowski.

“He is going to be making all the difference in the box and if he doesn’t do that, then there is a hope he is going to score so many goals that it doesn’t matter that perhaps Bayern still have lots of problems.

“Harry Kane even in a dysfunctional Bayern team, will score goals and that will help Bayern a lot.”

  5. Kane 'increases our chances of winning massively'published at 19:22 British Summer Time 18 August 2023

Werder Bremen v Bayern Munich (19:30 BST)

Harry Kane made his debut in Germany last Saturday with a low-key substitute appearance in the second half of their Bayern Munich's 3-0 defeat to RB Leipzig in the Super Cup.

Despite just three touches in 35 minutes, Kane's performance only hours after signing the contract did little to dampen Bayern fans' enthusiasm and expectations of him for this campaign.

And by the sounds of it his new gaffer, Thomas Tuchel is also pretty excited by having England's all-time leading marksman at his disposal given Bayern have not quite looked the same since Robert Lewandowski headed off to Barcelona just over 12 months ago.

"The Harry Kane effect will not evaporate," Tuchel said. "It works on so many levels that you cannot realise it because you do not witness it daily.

"In the changing room, on the pitch, his character, his professionalism. How hard he trains, how after the defeat he was first on the pitch for training with the reserves.

"He increases our chances of winning massively. We know we will not win every match. But I am 100% committed in this. Everything I see (from Kane) so far confirms this. He will make our players better.

"He gives us a lot of options and will get all the time to fully adapt but I am sure he will have his impact."
