    Preston 0-0 Plymouth

    Michael Redford
    BBC Squad Goals

There’s a clear standout fixture in the Championship today and that comes from Deepdale.

Not just because Preston are high-flying; but their fixture against Plymouth carries more significance than just the three points on offer.

It’ll be the first time the two sides have met since Ryan Lowe left the south coast of Devon two years ago to move to north west Lancashire.

And after a slow start at the club, it appears he’s beginning to make his mark. Before Leicester’s win last night, Preston were top of the Championship, with four wins from their first five matches, which has seen them score seven goals and keep back-to-back clean sheets in their past two away games.

Now they’ll just be hoping to pick up where they left off before the international break.

But victory today won’t be straightforward.

Not only do Preston come up against newly-promoted Plymouth, who have taken to the Championship reasonably well since their return to the second tier, but Lowe will also come face-to-face with his former right-hand man, Steven Schumacher, who’s now making his own name for himself as a manager.

After guiding Plymouth to the League One title last season, his side are now finding their feet at a higher level.

An indifferent start has seen them win two of their first five matches, but the second of them was an impressive 3-0 win at home to Blackburn.

Plus, the signings of Bali Mumba and Morgan Whittaker on permanent deals after successful loan spells last season has only added to the increased optimism that is surrounding Home Park at the moment.

One thing’s for sure, Plymouth aren’t here to just make up the numbers.
