From the outside, the Stadion Stozice doesn't look overly impressive, with just one storey's worth of the stadium poking up above the surface.

Inside, however, it is a different story and you're met with a slick ultra-modern arena which was built down into the ground, rather than up towards the sky.

It creates an atmospheric bowl in the turf and will make it seem like there will be more than the 16,000 present in Ljubljana.

You also get a glorious view of the mountains in the distance as you approach the ground. Northern Ireland will want to feel like that are on top of the world come the end of the 90 minutes.

There are a few surprises as Michael O'Neill names his team to face Slovenia in what looks to be a 4-3-3 formation.

Matty Kennedy and Conor McMenamin will provide the width, while Isaac Price has impressed enough to retain his place ahead of Ali McCann, Jordan Thompson or the uncapped Brad Lyons.

Craig Cathcart has been left on the bench given his lack of pre-season, while Dan Ballard has missed out entirely.

Paddy McNair's versatility comes into its own and he'll slot in beside Jonny Evans, while Trai Hume and Ciaron Brown make up the full-back positions.

We have to remember, Michael O'Neill is missing 11 players who would have likely been in the squad if it wasn't for injury. That's a big blow no matter what nation you are.

  5. Team news - Cathcart on bench for Northern Irelandpublished at 19:14 British Summer Time 7 September 2023

Slovenia v Northern Ireland (19:45 BST)

Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill makes three personnel changes to the side that started the 1-0 home defeat by Kazakhstan in June - and it looks like a tweak to the formation too.

Craig Cathcart starting on the bench is perhaps the headline news, with the experienced defender having been without a club until this week's move to Belgium's KV Kortrijk.

Defender Ciaron Brown and wingers Conor McMenamin and Matty Kennedy are the three players that come in, with Jordan Thompson and Ali McCann the other two to drop out.

It looks like Brown will play at left-back in what looks like a 4-4-3 formation, with McNair partnering captain Jonny Evans in the centre of defence.

Despite Northern Ireland's patchy form, the Green and White Army are in good spirits and will no doubt be in fine voice once they land at the Stadion Skozice this evening.

    Three bridges at Slovenia

Ljubljana is the city with the three bridges, but it's the three points that really matter for Northern Ireland tonight.

A win over San Marino aside, Michael O'Neill's men have been on the receiving end of three 1-0 defeats in a row.

It's fine margins at this level, but Northern Ireland will need to find that clinical touch in Slovenia to ignite their campaign and keep their hopes of reaching Euro 2024 alive.

O'Neill has called on his players to channel the spirit of Euro 2016. Let's see if they can deliver tonight.
