  1. GREAT SAVE!published at 20 mins

    England 0-0 Scotland

Oh what a chance for Scotland and once again, surprise, surprise it comes from Caroline Weir.

It's a lovely effort from Weir just inside the area, powerful and arrowed towards the near post but Mary Earps produces a fantastic save to her left.

England are playing with good intensity but have just lacked a bit of quality in the six-yard area so far.

The crowd, who are Lionesses' fans in their majority, like what they see. It's been a good start for the World Cup finalists.

Scotland haven't been allowed to play at all.

  3. 'Daly will do anything for this England side'published at 20:04 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

A lot of players think that versatility isn't neccesarily a good thing, but I think it definitely is.

Rachel Daly will do anything for this England squad, whatever it takes, and she showed that perfectly at the World Cup.

For her to be back up top, in front of goal, she has the skills to do it and loves to score goals. I hope we see a lot of freedom from her tonight and I'd like to think we'll see a few goals as well.

Georgia Stanway has a pop from range, as she so often does.

This time it's a lovely effort on the volley but doesn't trouble Scotland keeper Lee Gibson too much.

    Sam Kerr, what a block.

That was crucial after some lovely and very clever play from Lucy Bronze.

Bayern Munich, you've got yourself a good'un in Kerr.

    Oh stop that Lucy Bronze.

A nifty little back flick and turn to get lose her marker and play through Rachel Daly but Daly just can't connect with the shot and Sam Kerr, no not that one, blocks.

Yes Tom it's a very valid point and peculiarity about this match.

Certainly someone like Caroline Weir would expect to be involved in that Team GB squad.

Bizarre quirk to this game tonight is that if Scotland win then they effectively take away their own chance of going to the Olympics. Have no doubt that they’ll be desperate to win, but those with a chance of selection must surely feel a bit conflicted by that possibility?

Lauren James gets on one of those charging runs through the middle of the park.

She finds Rachel Daly in the middle but the Villa striker was under pressure from two Scotland defenders.

Scotland have struggled to get out of their own half so far.

The pace with which England have been passing around the ball has been absolutely phenomenal.

First signs of positivity from Scotland and, no surprise, it's Caroline Weir who looks lively.

She plays through Kirsty Hanson but the Aston Villa forward can't get past Lucy Bronze.

Absolutely no doubt who the crowd's favourite players are. Lucy Bronze is getting a cheer for every touch. She's from up this way, born in Northumberland. She began her youth career with Sunderland.

Rachel McLauchlan recovers... just. That would've been a horror start.

    Keep the heid, Scotland.

Got to get through the first 10 minutes unscathed, at least.

Scotland have barely been allowed to touch the ball so far and Lauren Hemp is the latest to surge down the right.

She whips it in for Georgia Stanway but it's cleared. England will have another corner.

What a start to the game. Some great front-foot football from England.

I'm enjoying what I am seeing so far, really pleased to see such an attacking approach from Sarina Wiegman and the Lionesses.

  17. Groundhog Day for Scotland?published at 19:48 British Summer Time 22 September 2023

    England 0-0 Scotland

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

It feels like a bit of a 'Groundhog Day' for me, because exactly the same was said about the form of the Scotland men's side last week before they also faced England.

They were on this great run and we were really excited about the game, so I refuse to get excited just yet about tonight.

Under this manager they are playing a different style of football, almost Spanish in it's style, and it is really good to watch. We saw that England didn't fare so well against that in the World Cup final.
