    Northern Ireland 0-1 Slovenia

There was half-hearted appeals for a penalty as Jonny Evans looked to be nudged out of the way as he went to head the ball from the resulting throw in.

That was probably a fair enough call, but it's enough for more boos from the home crowd.

  2. Postpublished at 19:59 British Summer Time 17 October 2023

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Slovenia

It's deep to the back post towards Magennis but the visitors manage to head it clear.

    As you were.

  3. Postpublished at 19:59 British Summer Time 17 October 2023

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Slovenia

There's ironic cheers as Josh Magennis wins a free-kick on the edge of the area.

There was a long pause again before it's given, but this time it's in Northern Ireland's favour.

What can Northern Ireland do from here?

  4. Postpublished at 19:58 British Summer Time 17 October 2023

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Slovenia

Paul Smyth wins a corner after he skipped into the area.

The first real chance for Michael O'Neill's side...but Jan Oblak can punch clear.

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Slovenia

Now Shea Charles is penalised for a foul on the edge on the area.

He's now giving Jordan Thompson a talking to.

Let's just say the opening 12 minutes haven't gone down well with the home support.

  6. Postpublished at 19:56 British Summer Time 17 October 2023

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Slovenia

Paul Smyth is the next man to be clattered, this time by Erik Janza.

    No booking, again.

  7. Postpublished at 19:55 British Summer Time 17 October 2023

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Slovenia

Trai Hume loves a tackle and he does really well to win a throw when it looked like Slovenia could break.

  8. Time to dig deeppublished at 19:55 British Summer Time 17 October 2023

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Slovenia

    Mark Sterling
BBC Sport NI at Windsor Park

That was some strike for the goal.

Whatever about how long it took the referee to make the decision, or whether it was the right decision, you have to admire the quality of the shot that flew into the top corer.

Massive challenge for Northern Ireland, now. They will have to dig deep to steady themselves and play their way into this game.

Can they rise to the challenge?

  9. Postpublished at 19:55 British Summer Time 17 October 2023

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Slovenia

Shea Charles is rugby tackled in the middle of the park and the home fans (and Michael O'Neill) are raging that a card wasn't shown there.

  10. Postpublished at 19:54 British Summer Time 17 October 2023

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Slovenia

Bailey Peacock-Farrell gets away with one as he plays a really sloppy pass towards Jordan Thompson near the centre circle.

Petar Stojanovic nipped in and attempted the lob, but it's just over the top.

  11. 'We have very little luck'published at 19:53 British Summer Time 17 October 2023

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Slovenia

    John O'Neill
Former Northern Ireland defender on BBC Radio Ulster

That was a terrible decision by the referee [to give the free-kick] but Peacock-Farrell has to get a hand to it, it's on his side. I think he'll be disappointed with that, what an awful start.

The one thing you can say about this campaign is that Northern Ireland have very, very little luck at all. Not only with injuries but when you have decisions like that given against you.

  12. Postpublished at 19:51 British Summer Time 17 October 2023

    Northern Ireland 0-1 Slovenia

It was a fast start between these two in Ljubljana last month and we've had another early goal here.

Northern Ireland were still protesting as the teams walked back for the restart, but there's nothing to be done now and Michael O'Neill's side will have to find a way back into the game.

    Adam Gnezda Cerin (5 mins)

    Cerin stands over it....and scores!

It's an absolute beauty of a strike and he whips it in off the post. Ping!

  14. Postpublished at 19:49 British Summer Time 17 October 2023

    Northern Ireland 0-0 Slovenia

Benjamin Sesko wins a free-kick right on the edge of the area despite barely being touched by Jamal Lewis.

The referee waved play on but brought it back a good 10 seconds later. Strange, and Shea Charles is booked for protesting.

  15. Postpublished at 19:47 British Summer Time 17 October 2023

    Northern Ireland 0-0 Slovenia

There's a thing as trying to be too clever, isn't there?

That's what happened here, as they try to play it short but make a real mess of it and Peacock-Farrell can gather.

  16. Postpublished at 19:46 British Summer Time 17 October 2023

    Northern Ireland 0-0 Slovenia

Paul Smyth is forced into conceding a corner after Sporar tried to skip through.

    First chance coming up?

  17. KICK-OFFpublished at 19:46 British Summer Time 17 October 2023

    Northern Ireland 0-0 Slovenia

Dale Taylor nearly gets in from the off as Northern Ireland start on the front foot.

It's now back at the other end after Slovenia cleared, but that was a promising move.

  18. Postpublished at 19:45 British Summer Time 17 October 2023

Northern Ireland v Slovenia (19:45 BST)

That's all the pre-match build-up out of the way.

Northern Ireland will be attacking the Railway End in the first half.

  19. Postpublished at 19:45 British Summer Time 17 October 2023

Northern Ireland v Slovenia (19:45 BST)

We're having a moment of silence to show respect to the victims of last night's attack in Brussels.

    It's impeccably observed.

  20. 'Sesko is a phenomenal player'published at 19:44 British Summer Time 17 October 2023

Northern Ireland v Slovenia (19:45 BST)

    Warren Feeney
Former Northern Ireland striker on BBC Radio Ulster

Slovenia have top players but I'm looking forward to seeing the young lad Benjamin Sesko of Leipzig. I think he's a phenomenal centre-forward and he proved that last time out. Northern Ireland have to stay in the game because these are top players out there.
