There'll be a different vibe at Windsor Park tonight than to when Slovenia last came to the south Belfast stadium.

That was back in March 2016 for a friendly that Northern Ireland were using as build-up to what was to become a thoroughly positive first appearance at a Euro finals that summer in France.

The match ended in a 1-0 victory for Michael O'Neill's men, with a lovely side story of Conor Washington scoring his first international goal just four days after having made his debut away to Wales.

Fast-forward seven-and-a-half years to tonight and it is not just as rosy.

Northern Ireland, with hopes of qualifying for another Euros long gone and some of the Green and White Army voicing their displeasure about GAA ground Casement Park being the nominated stadium for Euro 2028.

Slovenia, on the other hand, arrive tonight as group leaders and hoping to take another step closer to next summer's finals.

These two squared up in September and it turned out to be a thoroughly entertaining game, with defending seemingly optional from both teams.

Ultimately, Northern Ireland's hopes of qualifying for Euro 2024 all but ended following the 4-2 defeat n Ljubljana.

In a chaotic opening 20 minutes Isaac Price cancelled out Andraz Sporar's early opener before Petar Stojanovic's deflected goal restored Slovenia's lead.

Benjamin Sesko added a third on 41 minutes to put two goals between the sides at the break.

Jonny Evans pulled one back after the restart but Sporar grabbed his second in the 56th minute to halt any potential comeback.

Northern Ireland v Slovenia (19:45 BST)

Well, folks. Here we are for more international football.

The end of Euro 2024 qualifying is in sight with just three rounds of matches left in Group H.

Unfortunately for Northern Ireland, progression to the finals next summer is a distant dream, but that doesn't mean we can't have a bit of fun this evening as Slovenia come to town.

The reverse game was a cracker, with Slovenia running out 4-2 winners. Will Northern Ireland get revenge tonight?
