Belgium look really vulnerable at the back.

I think we are going to see a lot more of this tonight, England relentlessly attacking and Belgium dropping back into that defensive low block.

    Talk about fast starts!

The opening five minutes have been spent in and around Belgium's penalty area.

    England look hungry.

A very quick start from England which will have pleased Sarina Wiegman. They didn't look too sharp in the international window last month but already could have scored.

Toone needs a big performance tonight, she's been off her game for about six months. Zelem, Kirby or Clinton would be better options.

Belgium's defence is all over the place. Lauren Hemp has an attempt which is clawed away by the keeper before Ella Toone follows up with a header.

It's tame by Toone who really should have done better.

    A great start from England.

Already you can see the willingness and eagerness from the full backs and the wide players to get forward.

This is where it matters the most. These are the sorts of situations that bring the best out of this Lionesses squad.

They will be disappointed on the back of that loss to the Netherlands and will want to show the best of themselves in their performance this evening.

This is a perfect opportunity to put everything right.

Tonight's game is very, very important. Not only because England lost to the Netherlands last time but also because it is a route to qualifying for the Paris Olympics in 2024.

Going back to 2005 England are unbeaten in 49 competitive games on home soil, that is a phenomenal record. It is hard to see England not getting a favourable result tonight, and also in the return fixture next week.

Will the next Women's World Cup be held in Belgium?

Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands will lodge a joint bid to host the 2027 edition.

World governing body Fifa has given prospective hosts an 8 December deadline to submit their bids, with a final decision due to be announced on 17 May, 2024.

Competition is expected from South Africa, Brazil and a joint proposal from the United States and Mexico.

"Joint hosts will be really great," said England's Dutch boss Sarina Wiegman when asked about the prospects of the World Cup being held in Belgium, Germany and Netherlands.

"It’s exciting it’s Europe and also my home country will be a part of it too. The travel distances, the stadiums we could play in would be really nice too.”

I certainly hope that it isn't a case of a World Cup hangover for England and that they can put their form right tonight.

The quality has to improve, the ball speed has to improve. There have been some new faces in the squad. It is vital for England to get as many points as possible over these next two matches.

The group as it stands just shows how quickly the gap is closing [between the top teams and the rest], the showcases from the likes of Scotland and particularly Belgium who went and beat the Netherlands, just demonstrates how competitive this Olympic qualifying campaign is.

  16. More late, late drama?published at 19:28 British Summer Time 27 October 2023

If you're at the King Power, don't leave early - you might miss a goal!

Belgium's Nations League campaign has so far featured a 93rd minute winner against the Netherlands, while the Red Flames were heading for another three points against Scotland before conceding a 93rd minute equaliser.

England fans don't need reminding that they lost last time out against the Netherlands after conceding a 90th minute winner.

This is a team that comes with confidence, they were a little bit lucky against the Netherlands but they are here to upset the apple cart.

They have some players that are familiar to us, Justine Vanhaevermaet, Janice Cayman, Tessa Wullaert, a lot of quality.

But again, if we focus on ourselves and play to our level we should be fine tonight.

  19. 'Tough and very hard to beat'published at 19:22 British Summer Time 27 October 2023

Sarina Wiegman and her England side will not be taking Belgium lightly this evening.

The 'Red Flames' currently sit top of Group A1, ahead of higher-ranked teams the Netherlands in second and England in third.

"Belgium are really competing for something now in the Women's Nations League and not friendlies," said Wiegman.

"They are in a different situation in the moment, they went through a transition. They play in a different shape, are very competitive, very organised and are tough in duels too. As they showed in September, they are very hard to beat."

There are no Leicester City players in the England squad sadly but it's close to home for goalkeeper Mary Earps, who is from Nottingham.

She told us yesterday her grandma will be watching in the stadium tonight, which is a rare occasion.

There is Leicester City representation in Belgium's starting XI as summer signing Janice Cayman, their most-capped player, features.

Her club manager Willie Kirk, who signed her for Leicester City, is here tonight to watch. He's Scottish so he might be cheering her on.
