Does Dyche have a change of tactics in him?? I really don't think he does. Forest are not going to be caught off guard with this.

  2. 'It's an important moment'published at 17:26 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2023

    FT: Burnley 5-0 Sheff Utd

    Burnley

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany to BBC Sport: "I think the guys have deserved it. They have performed well for a while. This league is brutal.

"I haven't felt the nerves [from the players]. I could barely contain them, they were raring to go. The frustration of last week didn't turn into negatvity. It turned into 'we'll show people'.

"It's only a win but it's an important moment. I think it's a blend of new players and making sure there was no reason to change everything from what we did last season. We're trying to be more solid, as aggressive as we were last season. We've been dangerous in other game but we've needed to tighten up.

"I think the team can progress a lot. The players are constantly getting better.

"On the training pitch, the habits are of such a high standard. Hopefully this is the starting point."

Forest boss Steve Cooper told Sky Sports before kick-off: "Unity has always been important so it's nothing new there. December is a busy period and there could be a lot of ups and downs and it's important to stay together. That's what has given us success over the past few years.

"Its easy after a defeat at home to be frustrated and down. But when you take a step back and you take a look at all the good things it gives you reassurance we are in the right path. Setbacks if you handle them make you stronger going forward."

  4. 'We have to push away the noise'published at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2023

Everton boss Sean Dyche told Sky Sports before kick-off: "We have spoken at length to the players about pushing away the noise [relating to the points deduction]. The goalposts have moved but we have to handle that, manage and perform.

"We don't need to worry about the noise and just make sure we deliver performances. We have shown a strong shift in mentality this season. We have to keep focus on performances."

Dyche added that Dominic Calvert-Lewin has a "minor situation with his calf" but fellow striker Beto "is hungry and comes in to take his chance".

Nottingham Forest v Everton (17:30 GMT)

Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper has made four changes form the side which lost 3-2 at home to Brighton last time out.

Ibrahim Sangare, Serge Aurier, Ryan Yates and Willy-Arnaud Boly come in for Moussa Niakhate, Ola Aina, Nicolas Dominguez and Danilo.

Forest XI: Vlachodimos, Aurier, Boly, Murillo, Toffolo, Mangala, Gibbs-White, Sangare, Yates, Elanga, Wood

Everton manager Sean Dyche has made just one tweak from the team which suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Manchester United last weekend.

Striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is nursing muscle tightness in his calf, misses out and is replaced in attack by fit-again Beto.

Everton XI: Pickford, Young, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko, Harrison, Garner, Gueye, McNeil, Doucoure, Beto

This feels like a big game for Nottingham Forest, who saw their unbeaten home record ended by Brighton last week.

I am reading that boss Steve Cooper is under pressure now, and his problem is the expectations of Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis. I think Marinakis has to be careful, because he doesn't seem to understand the connection Cooper has with the fans.

Everton are obviously badly in need of the points too. I actually thought they were unlucky against Manchester United last weekend - yes, they lost 3-0, but they created plenty of chances.

My first thought here was a draw but I actually just have a feeling that Sean Dyche will find a way, and Everton will edge this one.

  8. 'I could barely contain the lads'published at 17:19 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2023

    FT: Burnley 5-0 Sheff Utd

    Burnley

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany to Sky Sports: "It felt like our performances have been good for a while now. After the disappointment comes a moment of reward.

"I have to congratulate the lads. I'm happy for them.

"They were just raring to go. We were extremely hurt by what happened last week. The lads, I could barely contain them, they were ready to go and do something at Turf Moor.

The lads deserve all the credit they can get it. It's not been a one-off. We've had performances like that this season."

I think Paul Heckingbottom is a goner.

Losing consecutively, and so convincingly, to two relegation rivals in Bournemouth and now today against Burnley, I don't think he can survive that.

To be humiliated like they were at home to Bournemouth last week and now to concede five goals today, I think patience will run out.

  10. 'Patience was key'published at 17:16 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2023

    FT: Brentford 3-1 Luton

    Brentford

Brentford goalscorer Neal Maupay, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was very important [to win] after we had 2 tough games against Arsenal and Liverpool.

"It shows the character of the team, today was a tough game because we were expected to win. Luton are good, they work hard.

"The key word at half time was patience, keep pushing and keep playing well. We knew the more we put pressure on then the chances would come. A lot of teams can work hard for 45 minutes but the longer it goes on the chances start to come. We had to stick to the plan and that's what we did.

"It was a big moment, going ahead, to break them down so early in the second half because they have to take risk to come back into the game and then we scored a second.

"They had a couple of chances so we had to work and fight to the end. It wasn't easy but it was a great feeling to win."

On scoring his second goal of the season: "That's where I score my goals, if I'm more than six yards I can't score.

"90% of my goals are in the six yard box, so that's where I have to be."

Dominant in the first half, a bit shaky in the second after that brilliant Cunha goal for Wolves.

In the end it is about seeing the result out and Arsenal did that today.

    FT: Arsenal 2-1 Wolves

Arsenal have scored at least once in each of their last 32 games against Wolves in all competitions, the joint longest scoring run against an opponent in the club’s history (also an ongoing run of 32 vs West Brom).

Meanwhile, Bukayo Saka's opener was Arsenal's 100th goal of 2023 (now 101), becoming just the fifth big five European side to reach this total across all competitions this calendar year after Man City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen.

Steven: People will berate Arsenal, but you have to remember Wolves have beaten City and Spurs already this season, and also drew with Newcastle

Paul: Wolves are a strange team. Beat Man City, drew with Newcastle, beat Spurs and are narrowly losing to us yet they’re also the only team in the league that lost to that awful Sheffield Utd team.

  16. 'We needed that a lot'published at 17:06 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2023

    FT: Burnley 5-0 Sheff Utd

    Burnley

Burnley scorer Jacob Bruun Larsen: "We needed that a lot. We were all devastated last weekend. It was a tough defeat but we showed character today. A great reation.

"When you go 2-0 up that fast you get everyone with you. I'm proud of the team, proud of myself.

"Enjoy tonight and tomorrow prepare for the next game.

"We have a lot of quality and potential in the squad. Just try to do the things we also did last week. Obviously be more consistent in it. The game isn't just 80 minutes.

"We were in control after 2-0. A lot of teams in our situation would have been satisfied with that but you saw players on the pitch wanted to score. You saw the gaffer rushing to the ball. That's how we train."
