  2. 'Sometimes I lose my mind about the referees'published at 19:37 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2023

    FT: Man City 3-3 Tottenham

    Manchester City

Man City boss Pep Guardiola speaking to Match of the Day on not seeing the game out: "Yes we were so close. At Chelsea we did the same, winning 4-3 then an unneccesary penalty, then also Liverpool lots of chances and not taking them and then a fantastic goal. We played well but unfortunately we could not close the game.

On the referee's decision to stop play as Grealish was through: "Sometimes I lose my mind about the referees, but here no. Always people can make mistakes. It surprised me for the fact that he went to whistle when Erling went down, after he stood back up and made the pass so the refereee made the gesture to play on. But then when the ball goes to Jack, then the whistle. That makes you think *gasps argh*.

"If in the right moment when Erling went down he whistled then you say 'ok', but whistling after saying play on... I don't know. It was a good game, everyone enjoyed it. Spurs are so happy, we are less so. Next on to Villa Park for the next game and to go again.

On if it will be a good title race: "A good level for many teams, good for the Premier League, a good advert. We are there, we have been for many years and we hope to be again at the end of the season."

    FT: Man City 3-3 Spurs

Son Heung-min scored his 50th Premier League away goal for Tottenham, becoming just the seventh different player to score at least 50 home goals, 50 away goals and provide 50 assists for a side in the competition, and the first to do so for Spurs.

  4. 'It is what it is'published at 19:31 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2023

    FT: Man City 3-3 Tottenham

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola speaking to Match of the Day: "Yes we continued playing a good level again today. Unfortunately against Liverpool as well this happens [City do not kill the game].

"This was a moment where we get to see the team, how they react, how we step forward. It was a top performance again against a top, top team.

"Second half Spurs stepped forward, a little higher up the pitch. But when you concede just three or four chances from them... of course they have important absences but even with that they get the result. But yeah it is what it is.

On conceding more goals in the last few games: "In the Chelsea game yes it was a concern but Liverpool and Spurs no. The problem is when the opponent creates a lot of chances, which today [Spurs] and Liverpool did not. But again in the moment, the transition after the corner, and again for another we make a mistake and concede.

"Football is about mistakes sometimes, but still we are there. After many years we still have the feeling that we want it [the title]."

  5. 'We can be at the top in the future'published at 19:26 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2023

    FT: Man City 3-3 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs goalscorer Dejan Kulusevski speaking to Match of the Day: "I have to see it [my header]. I have no idea how I scored it. I didn't see the ball go in because I was on the floor so I'd love to see it.

"First half they were better than us and they deserved to be ahead but second half we were unbelievable, we played so good we controlled the game.

"I'm so proud of the guys and I think we deserved a point in the end."

On character: "I think the team itself has a strong belief but first half was not good enough. The coach was very angry at half-time. He said 'guys stop thinking, just play' and we came out better so I think we have to grow mentally - that's the only problem.

"The football is there, the coach is there and we can be at the top in the future."

  6. Postpublished at 19:24 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2023

    FT: Man City 3-3 Spurs

There were just 137 seconds between Son Heung-min putting Tottenham 1-0 up and then scoring an own goal to level the scores.

He is only the second player in Premier League history to score a goal and own goal in the opening 10 minutes of a game, after Gareth Barry for Aston Villa v Charlton in May 1999.

  7. 'More to that game than one refereeing decision'published at 19:21 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2023

    FT: Man City 3-3 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou speaking to Match of the Day: "Deki [Kulusevski] was excellent the whole game and we count on him attacking the box from that side. Him and Brennan [Johnson] have goals in them, we haven't had enough out of them yet but they are there. It's great those two combined for a great goal at the end."

On his view of the referee stopping play when City were through: "It doesn't affect me at all. I don't think that is the story of the game today, there are better storylines from that fantastic game of football than one refereeing decision."

  8. 'You could see the team were very alive'published at 19:18 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2023

    FT: Man City 3-3 Tottenham

    Manchester City

Manchester City defender Ruben Dias speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It's a feeling of frustration, very similar to the Liverpool game. A game I would say we dominated the most part of it and in the end the draw was what we could get.

"Overall I can't say I'm not happy with the performance of the team. Everyone was on it. The team was very aggressive. We were very sharp, we created the chances.

"Unfortunately we didn't take the three points but I think it'll be part of the consistency of being the team we are to keep moving forwards even though we didn't get the three points today."

On, the fact they could have been further ahead at half-time: "Most of the frustration comes from exactly that. It is football, sometimes we concede a goal that we shouldn't. Sometimes we don't score the goals we should have scored. It's a mix of it and it's the not knowing what is going to happen that makes football beautiful.

"All I can say is from our side we are going to keep doing what we believe in. As we all saw today we can be very, very good as we have been in the past and we are still here. The result now, maybe the past three might have not gone our way but the team is there and you could see the team were very alive."

  9. 'In this arena against that team it is easy to make mistakes'published at 19:16 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2023

    FT: Man City 3-3 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou speaking to Match of the Day: "Really pleased for the players that they did get a reward. We weren't at our usual standard first half - Man City could have blown us away during that period. They missed a few chances, a lot like us last week to be honest.

"We hung in there and second half was a lot better. We had more belief and conviction and we made it more uncomfortable for them. Massive effort from the players, it would have been very easy to get blown away but I thought they showed great character and it is important they get a reward. A point is a good reward."

On giving the ball away in dangerous areas: "Yeah we did give the ball away a lot and far too easily, but it wasn't due to pressure. It all looks easy from the sideline, but in this arena against that team it is easy to make mistakes. I thought a lot of it was down to us second guessing ourselves.

"Second half they played with clearer heads and left that to one side. We rode our luck a little bit but the players did what they needed to do. That's part of football, we had a chance at half-time, showed resilience to come back and right up until the end we were still trying to score."

  10. Postpublished at 19:13 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2023

    FT: Man City 3-3 Spurs

Phil Foden registered his 60th Premier League goal involvement for Manchester City (39 goals, 21 assists), becoming the 10th different player to do so under Pep Guardiola (since 2016-17).

  11. 'That's football sometimes'published at 19:09 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2023

    FT: Man City 3-3 Tottenham

    Manchester City

Man City boss Pep Guardiola speaking to Sky Sports on what has stopped City killing the game: "That's football sometimes. In any sport it is about statistics, and when a team has better statistics, 10 times out of 10 they win. In football this is not the case.

"Last week the same happened to Spurs. They were the better team against Aston Villa but they lost. So football can be like this sometimes. To score four at Stamford Bridge and draw, to be better against Liverpool and draw, and today we were also not able to win. We need to forget this and move on to the next one and continue.

On Erling Haaland showing frustration: "He is a fantastic player. His frustration is for the last action [Grealish decision] and not for scoring goals. What can I say as a manager to these players and our fans? A team who tried their best and a full stadium again who cheered us to the end.

"Maybe next time we will be better and improve. How many chances did Spurs create, also Liverpool, not many and we did not get the result we wanted today either. Wednesday we have another game and go for it."

  12. 'Keep moving forwards'published at 19:06 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2023

    FT: Man City 3-3 Tottenham

    Manchester City

Manchester City defender Ruben Dias speaking to Sky Sports: "It's difficult for us. The same feeling as Liverpool - a game we could have won by four or five but in the end, small margins and these things can happen.

"The team did think the performance was good in many levels. Obviously we conceded the goals but still the attitude, the way we played, the aggression. Unfortunately we couldn't get the three points, it's frustrating.

"The only way now is to keep moving forwards."

On aggression: "Overall in the game the team was really, really aggressive. Obviously we can talk about chances that we need to make goals out of, we can also talk about goals we can't concede but in the end it's a mix of all of it.

"The feeling we will leave the pitch with today is a bit of a frustrating feeling. I think all of us know the team was there for today and unfortunately we didn't get the three points.

"I can be proud of what everyone did because everyone did everything to win the game today."

On the amount of goals they are conceding: "This is football. Football is unpredictable and football changes all the time. In the past we've had clean sheets that could have been a goal conceded but we were able to sustain it.

"For example this game, the Liverpool game when it looked like everything was locked in we still concede goals so football is versatile and we need to adapt constantly.

"Things aren't going the best way for us right now but the only thing we have to do is keep pushing, keep believing, keep pushing, keep moving forward because at some point if you really believe in what you do things come to you."

Man City boss Pep Guardiola speaking to Sky Sports about the late controversy: "Next question. I will not do a Mikel Arteta comment.

"It is hard when you review the image, the referee decides to blow the whistle after he has already said to play on. After the pass, the whistle, so I do not understand this action.

"It was a good game, that is the most important thing. It was a pity, same as the Liverpool game, I had the feeling that today that we made an incredible performance in all departments, against a really good team and manager and how they play.

"We created a lot of chances, we were aggressive, incredibly concentrated, and the feeling is that we still want to be there [at the top of the table].

"It is a pity. Sometimes football is like life, you do not get what you deserve."

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou speaking to Sky Sports about his half-time team talk: "There would probably only be a few words I can say. Joking aside it was more trying to get the players to believe in themselves rather than anger at them. I'm always mindful that from where I am on the touchline it seems simple but out there against an unbelievable team it is difficult.

"It was a case of whatever happens I will take responsibility, particularly if it doesn't go well. But just go out there and believe in yourselves.

"How you react to the tough periods factor in how you are measured in the course of the season. We stuck to our guns and our beliefs, we aren't out of the tough period yet, we're going to be thin going into January but how you react is important for what we are trying to build."

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou speaking to Sky Sports: "It was an entertaining game, plenty in it. We were lucky to be in it by half-time, City could have blown us away in that period, a bit similar to what happened to us against Villa last week.

"We hung in there, second half were a lot better, a lot more control and a lot more belief in the team. We got our reward for that which is great for the lads."

On the character the side showed: "It has been there all year, the last few results have hidden that a little but we are at the bare bones a little bit. I have asked players to play in unfamiliar positions but we have still played some decent football. I think the character has been there all year but we certainly needed it today.

"City are an unbelievable team and there are times where you just have to hang on like we did today."

On the side's approach and sticking to it: "We weren't anywhere near the the level of our standards and City will do that to you, they are unbelievable. They put pressure on you and haven't lost too many games here at the Etihad. Second half we had more belief in ourselves and the team we want to be and we clawed our way back into the game."

Tottenham goalscorer Son Heung-min, speaking to Sky Sports about keeping belief: "Of course, that's why we love football. That's what I told the lads.

"Obviously Man City are a huge, huge team and one of the best teams in the world but that's why we love football, it happens sometimes. We kept believing until 90 minutes so I'm very very proud of the team."

On putting his side ahead before conceding an own goal: "That's football, sometimes it happens. I tried to do the best thing for the team and couldn't react but still good experience to score against Man City."

On final equaliser: "The lads haven't given up until the last whistle and brilliant work from Brennan [Johnson], unbelievable cross inside the box and obviously Dejan [Kulusevski] doesn't score headers usually but I'm very proud of him and he's massive.

"I think this point will bring us so much for the season. I think it's a huge point for the team and players' confidence."

Tottenham Hotspur's Dejan Kulusevski speaking to Sky Sports: "It was an unbelievable second half from us and I'm proud of the guys and really we have to play like this all season."

On coming from 2-1 down: "Really hard but the second half was unbelievable. It was too bad that we conceded that goal because if we kept playing like that we would have won the game but we have to learn.

"There are a lot of things to learn but if we can just learn to get better mentally then we will be on top."

On coming from behind once more: "Nothing. That's the best always, don't think nothing. Think as little as possible and God will do the work."
