    Pat Nevin

Aston Villa look full of belief.

This is not a team playing in fear of what they are up against. They believe they are at least equal to their opponents tonight.

    Second half under way.

  7. Postpublished at 20:41 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2023

    Sheffield United 0-1 Liverpool

The noise levels rise as Sheffield United drive forward and Virgil van Dijk has to clear a low Jayden Bogle cross away for a Blades corner.

But it goes all tepid again when the set piece is cleared away.

    Man Utd 1-0 Chelsea

    Paul Robinson
Former Tottenham and England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

This high press, desire and commitment is something we haven't seen from United in recent weeks.

They are leaving themselves really exposed if the turnover is quick.

Man Utd looking the best they have all season in this first twenty mins. Dalot is having a brilliant game. Bruno looking like he wants to drag this team back. Any idea that this team isn't playing for their manager is being shown to be untrue tonight.

    Harry

Man Utd unrecognisable from the team that played at Newcastle. Let’s hope it continues.

  10. 'Far from boring'published at 20:40 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2023

    Aston Villa 0-0 Manchester City

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's calmed down a little bit after that energetic start but it is far from boring.

Both sides are just trying to settle into more of a possession game and get in behind the defensive lines, which are pushing very high.

  11. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 20:40 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2023

    Man Utd 1-0 Chelsea

Raheem Sterling steps inside Victor Lindelof and goes down. No Chelsea penalty is the decision. Not much contact.

  12. HITS THE WOODWORK - Crystal Palacepublished at 20:39 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2023

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Bournemouth

So close to an equaliser. Michael Olise plays it to Jefferson Lerma, who produces a lovely connection and almost scores against his former side.

He would've done had it not been for the right upright and the ball bounces off that and away.

  14. Hojlund watches it go inpublished at 20:38 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2023

    Man Utd 1-0 Chelsea

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

And that goal was confirmed by VAR because Rasmus Hojlund, whilst in an offside position, did not make a play for the ball and was not in Robert Sanchez's way as it went in.

The Denmark striker just stood and watched it.

  15. Blades need to change approachpublished at 20:38 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2023

    Sheffield United 0-1 Liverpool

    Alex Bruce
Former Hull defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Obviously a lot of positives for Sheffield United. It just a knocked a wind out of their sails when Liverpool got their goal. Lovely finish from Virgil van Dijk. Disappointing from a Sheffield United point of view from doing so well in the game to conceding from the set piece and then the stadium just went quiet.

If Sheffield United are going to get anything from this game, they need to really approach it the right way in the second half.

  18. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:37 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2023

    Man Utd 1-0 Chelsea

I don't want to say Manchester United have disciplinary problems...

But they have just picked up a second yellow card for throwing the ball away in the opening 25 minutes.

This time it's Alejandro Garnacho, who disagrees with the referee's decision that he has fouled Marc Cucurella before reacting angrily.

  20. KICK-OFFpublished at 20:36 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2023

    Fulham 2-0 Nottingham Forest

A big half for Nottingham Forest and a big half for Steve Cooper who makes two changes. Ryan Yates and Morgan Gibbs-White go on.

Nicolas Dominguez and Ibrahim Sangare come off.
