More from Aston Villa manager Unai Emery on Amazon Prime: "They are very good players and when I arrived here they were very good players. But sometimes you need a comfortable atmosphere. Then you have to use the right players and their skills in the right combination.

"John McGinn is the sample of it. He's a fantastic man and captain. On the pitch he is smiling but he is also so responsible.

"Firstly I am very happy because our supporters were connected with us, fantastic. I want to extend it to Saturday. Connect with them. Of course we will try to be competitive against Arsenal because they will impose a lot."

Mike: The only sour note on that Villa performance is some people saying they are in the title race. Let's not be silly now

Nick: Hey, Arsenal fans, if someone offered you an draw at the weekend, would you take it?

Lost for words after that Chelsea performance, everything about it was wrong. Poch can’t blame it on recovery time, it’s not like we’re in Europe!

FT: Aston Villa 1-0 Manchester City

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, speaking to Amazon Prime, says: "Aston Villa were better. They played a fantastic game, we struggled to make our process and be more aggressive in moments, but, yes, the better team won.

"We played with our desire but they played better. We struggled, especially in the first half and the second was completely different. In the final third the quality of the pass and the movement, we didn't find it all game.

"They are physical, they made a good block with the pressing. The fact we didn't win the last few games, that's the quality of the Premier League and the teams are exceptional.

"The challenge is to go to Luton and win the game. We know what's our level and as a manager we have to find a way to win games. We're struggling a bit. I'm here to help them."

  14. 'City looked a team well-beaten and out-run'published at 23:23 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2023

FT: Aston Villa 1-0 Man City

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

In actual fact Man City looked like a team that were well beaten, actually out-run tonight.

Just recently teams have taken the 'let's have a go at them' approach, Chelsea, Spurs, now Villa, and it is working.

Every team will look at these last few games and see that City have looked vulnerable and will see opponents having a go at them and think, 'that's how to do it!'

City are going to have to get all of their top players back and on form quickly if they are to stick fighting for those top places.

  15. 'We can't get carried away'published at 23:22 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2023

    FT: Man Utd 2-1 Chelsea

    Manchester United

Man Utd goalscorer Scott McTominay, speaking to Amazon Prime: "I've always enjoyed getting in the box and I could have had a hat-trick if I'd calmed down when I got the chance."

What changed: "The manager. The way we approached the game and some light training sessions to keep the energy high with a lot of games coming and keep the pressure on the teams above us."

What comes next: "We just have to take it a game at a time. We've got Bournemouth at the weekend and take it step by step. We can't get carried away because we played alright tonight."

  16. 'A special team who have what it takes to make top four'published at 23:21 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2023

FT: Aston Villa 1-0 Man City

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Unai Emery is doing an absolutely phenomenal job at Aston Villa.

How wrong I was after seeing them get thrashed up in Newcastle in the early weeks of the season.

Emery has got this side playing together, as a unit and as a team. The belief and attitude from every single player, there was no fear at any point of this game against Man City, one of the best teams we have seen for many years.

This is a special team that Emery has put together. I don't think you can bet against them finishing in the top four this year, plenty may think they are just visiting but I think they've got what it takes.

A sensational win that. Villa were so committed from the very first whistle.

I don't think Pep Guardiola has seen his side outmanoeuvred and outworked as much as he has tonight.

They have dominated Manchester City. We don't see that too often.

  18. 'There was too much energy for Manchester City'published at 23:19 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2023

FT: Aston Villa 1-0 Manchester City

    Martin O'Neill
Former Aston Villa manager on Amazon Prime

I thought Aston Villa were absolutely terrific. They deserved to win the game. They were magnificent.

Manchester City were really disappointing. They never really got going. There was too much energy for Manchester City to handle. It did not feel like a Pep Guardiola side.
