We've come to the end of the road for today's EFL live text.

It all started with Championship leaders Leicester City scoring a last-minute winner at West Brom and ends with Birmingham boss Wayne Rooney saying his side were "sloppy" in their draw with lowly Rotherham.

In between, there were wins for second-placed Ipswich, third-placed Leeds, fourth-placed Southampton and bottom of the table Sheffield Wednesday.

We'll have more live text action from the second round of the FA Cup tomorrow and the report from Bristol City's home game with Norwich.

Thanks for your company today and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

    Cheers!

Wayne Rooney pulled no punches after Birmingham's dour stalemate with Rotherham saying his players got complacent and they were lucky not to lose to the strugglers.

He told BBC Radio WM: "I think we have got to be happy with a point in the end.

"I thought we started really well and had good control of the game, we had good composure and were probing. Ethan Laird goes off and we got sloppy, couldn’t control the ball or pass to each other.

"I think we were fortunate to come away with a point in the end. Performance-wise for 60 minutes we were nowhere near the levels I want.

"I thought after 20 minutes the players thought it was too easy and they got complacent. That was a real worry for me."

  3. Rohl pleased as Owls take 'huge step forward'published at 18:23 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2023

    FT: Sheff Wed 3-1 Blackburn

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny RohlImage source, Rex Features

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl saw his side win for just the second time this season.

A first senior goal from teenager Bailey Cadamarteri and late strikes from Marvin Johnson and Josh Windass gave the bottom side a 3-1 win over Blackburn.

The Owls are still 10 points adrift of safety but have taken four points from their past two games after drawing with league leaders Leicester in midweek.

"My team fought until the end and they believe in what we are doing," he told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"I'm very proud of my team.

"It's a long way to go but today was fantastic. This past week has been a huge step forward."

He added: "Bailey has shown he can play for us. I see special things in him."

Steven Schumacher saw his Plymouth side snatch a 2-1 win with a 97th-minute winner from Adam Randell.

After seeing Plymouth pip Stoke 2-1 in stoppage-time, Argyle boss Steven Schumacher said he has sympathy for Alex Neil and Stoke as he knows only too well the pain of last-gasp defeats.

He told BBC Radio Devon: "Obviously my emotions are a lot better than the two times this season when we’ve conceded to the last kick of the game.

"As a manager when your team score and you know there’s no time left on the clock it is a brilliant feeling. The other side of it is you feel gutted for the opposition team and manager because it’s not nice.

"Thankfully we got the win infront of our fans at the Devonport End and they all go home happy.

"It was a disappointing goal to concede, a concentration error, we've spoken about it, but I was pleased with the reaction to it. I felt we got better after they scored, played with a bit more urgency and looked more like us.

"I felt we were positive in the second half and we kept going and it took until the last kick to win it but it doesn’t matter, three points is all that counts."

  5. Burns strike one of McKenna's favouritespublished at 18:17 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2023

    FT: Ipswich 2-1 Coventry

Ipswich boss Kieran McKennaImage source, Rex Features

Ipswich forward Wes Burns will long be lauded for for his wonder-goal that proved to be the winner against Coventry City.

Town boss Kieran McKenna ranks it top of the tree for goals he has seen his side score.

"It was one of my favourites since I've been here," McKenna told BBC Radio Suffolk.

"Wes' finish, of course, is incredible at the end but I thought the whole goal really, the way we worked the ball, the patience we showed deep in our own corner of the pitch.

"I could see the thought processes of the players, each pass had purpose. We were waiting for the right moment to come out of that area and change gears.

"And we picked the exact right moment, Conor [Chaplin] hits the switch at the exact right moment and then we go though the gears really quick, run forward and switch it again.

"And it's a great finish, on an individual and team level it's certainly one of my favourite goals."

  6. Robins laments slow Coventry startpublished at 18:14 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2023

    FT: Ipswich 2-1 Coventry

Coventry City boss Mark Robins told BBC BBC Radio CWR that the slow start they made against Ipswich had them chasing the game from the outset.

"At the start of the game, you have to try stay in it longer than that," he said.

"You are six minutes in and a goal down, and really there are two moments in the game where we get things wrong.

"And the second moment is a wordie [goal from Wes Burns].

"So we have one or two things wrong and then when you are playing the way we were playing at the start, you have to be good on the ball, and we weren't good enough on the ball. We kept giving it back and turning it over. It kept giving them a chances to come.

"As the game went on we were better and got better."

  7. Watford 'saw Hull's tiredness' - Ismaelpublished at 18:08 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2023

    FT: Hull 1-2 Watford

Watford's Wesley HoedtImage source, Rex Features

Valerien Ismael praised the way his Watford team reacted to the tiring of their opponents in their 2-1 away win at Hull.

"The second half was a different game", the manager told BBC Radio 3CR. "We saw the tiredness. We were more in control."

Dutch centre-back Wesley Hoedt unleashed a stunning 40-yard strike to secure all three points for the visitors, but Ismael admitted afterwards that his team trains to be able to take advantage of that kind of opportunity.

"I'm not surprised [by the winning goal]," he said. We work on those patterns, especially when the goalkeeper takes a lot of risks.

"We knew that as soon as we could win the ball, we have to try it."

  8. Hull 'not clinical enough' - Roseniorpublished at 18:05 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2023

    FT: Hull 1-2 Watford

    Liam RoseniorImage source, Rex Features

Liam Rosenior said he would have been frustrated even to draw against Watford, after seeing his Hull side lose 2-1 at home.

Hornets defender Wesley Hoedt's long-range strike won the game for the visiting side.

"It is a sickener in terms of the result." Rosenior told BBC Radio Humberside.

"In terms of the performance, I don't want to be that manager who lies or who is disingenuous in what I say."

Hull had 23 shots, compared to Watford's 10, while the victorious away side also had less than 40 per cent possession.

"We are not clinical enough," Rosenior admitted. "We make young mistakes, we are a young team, that is the downside."

"I love working with this group. I think you can see we are so much better. It is frustrating to lose. I would have been frustrated to draw that game."

  9. Boro boss Carrick 'proud' despite Leeds losspublished at 18:02 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2023

    FT: Leeds 3-2 Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough boss Michael CarrickImage source, Rex Features

Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick is taking the positives from his side's 3-2 defeat at third-placed Leeds.

"It had a bit of all sorts didn't it?" he told BBC Radio Tees.

"We feel we gave as good as we got, which is credit to the players. I thought the boys stuck at it unbelievably well against a really good team

"The changing room is quiet and we're disappointed we've not taken anything from the game because we felt we could have won it.

"Even with 10 men I thought we should have had a penalty and we hit the post. It was one of those days but I'm hugely proud of the players for their effort."

  10. Farke delighted with 'wild' Leeds winpublished at 17:58 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2023

    FT: Leeds 3-2 Middlesbrough

Leeds United boss Daniel FarkeImage source, Rex Features

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke was delighted his third-placed side came out on top against Middlesbrough.

The Whites fell behind after just three minutes but led 2-1 after seven.

They went in 3-2 ahead at the break and that's how it stayed despite Boro finishing with 10 men.

"I expected a tough game for us. I couldn't be happier," he said.

"It's a third game in eight days against a really good side. I judge them as one of the main competitors for a top six position."

"In terms of how desperate we were to win this game, it was top class. But we had too many unnecessary losses of the ball.

"When you give possession away that easily, that's why it was a bit wild. But every football fan must have enjoyed this game

"I could see why sometimes we were driven by our emotion. We played with too many transition moments - but it's also a side of my team that I love, rather than playing like football with sleeping pills."

In the only other EFL game today outside of the Championship, Portsmouth ran out comfortable winners at Northampton to climb back to the top of League One.

Sean Raggett's early goal and a double from Paddy Lane either side of the break took Pompey three points above Bolton.

Bolton were busy thumping Harrogate 5-1 in the FA Cup second round.

    FT: Southampton 2-0 Cardiff

Russell Martin gives the thumbs upImage source, Getty Images

Southampton boss Russell Martin said he was proud of his players after they turned on the style to beat Cardiff 2-0 - though it didn't prevent him giving them the hairdryer treatment at half-time.

He told BBC Radio Solent: "It was a really top performance. (Cardiff) had one chance in the first half. It was frustrating because they didn’t have too many moments (in the game) but when they did they had a chance out of it, they are a good side, at some point you expect them to get something.

"Second half I thought we were so good - we should have scored a lot more goals than we did, but it was a really convincing, dominant, aggressive and energetic performance and I am really proud of the lads because to do that in our third game in a week is difficult.

"It’s been a good week. I thought we started so well but let the tempo drop a little bit in the last 15 minutes of the first half. We maybe shouted a little bit too much at them as we were 2-0 up and in such a good position but second half they were amazing."

  13. We attacked how we always attack - Corberanpublished at 17:46 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2023

    FT: West Brom 1-2 Leicester

West Bromwich Albion head coach Carlos Corberan was left to lament their decision to chase a late winner against Leicester.

Harry Winks scored the injury-time winner after Leicester broke away on a quick counter attack after a long throw-in was well defended by the Foxes.

"We weren't trying to defend the result - we were attacking how I think you need to attack," he said.

"But prior to the throw-in we should have defended more calmly, not as aggressive so as not to give them the option to score.

"We attacked how we always attack. Sometimes to change something is negative.

"If I told my centre-backs not to go up (to join the attack), having scored a goal two minutes ago, at home, I'd have regretted this."

Let's punch the rewind button a moment and go back to reaction from the early game today.

Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca was full of praise for his Foxes side when talking to BBC Radio Leicester.

"We completely deserved to win the game - and we did it in the best way," he said.

"Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is improving in the right way in the last third. We needed him to be more clinical in terms of assists and goals.

"It is a huge win. We are trying to build something here, not just on the pitch, but off it too.

"The way the players celebrated with the fans showed that. My reaction needs to be a little bit more composed but I was happy."

    FT: Ipswich 2-1 Coventry

    Mick Mills
Former Ipswich and England captain on BBC Radio Suffolk

Coventry were a threat and all of a sudden, Ipswich could not get hold of the game.

They got a penalty, they missed that.

Then, you think Ipswich can see the game out, but they never really looked comfortable.

They will be delighted to go into the dressing room with three points. Coventry were better in the second half.

  17. How did Hull lose that?published at 17:34 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2023

    FT: Hull 1-2 Watford

    Ben Croucher
    BBC Final Score

Hull City manager Liam Rosenior spent the last 10 minutes on the edge of his technical area, hands in pockets. Not sure why he wasn't scratching his head at how his side lost that.

Jaden Philogene had more chances than most teams do in a game but for all his confident demeanour, his penalty was tame by comparison.

Wesley Hoedt's winner was a once-in-a-career goal. 40 yards out. Tried his luck. Scored. Football really is a funny old game sometimes.
